Todd had his driver’s life in his previous life, but with everything that had been going on in his new life, it had slipped his mind that he would need to take it again. His cheeks went red from embarrassment. The officers were staring at him and he did not know what to say, so he shut his mouth.
When the policemen saw that Todd was not about to start speaking any time soon, they started threatening him, but their threats sounded like nonsense to Todd. For example, the first officer said, "being lenient and resisting strict.”
If Todd was an ordinary high school student, their tone might have scared him. He had been put through the ringer in his first life, though, and he did not scare easily. Thus, all he could do was furrow his bow and wait for them to start making sense.
When the officers saw that their approach was not working, they knew that it was time to change their tactics. The one officer whispered something into the other’s ear, and when they separated, their sly smiles confused Todd.
The two officers sat back in their chairs, and for a long time, they said nothing. It was not long before Todd realized that they were giving him the silent treatment, and he thought – These guys have a lot to learn about torture – and he began to giggle.
The first officer clenched his fists at his side. “What the f**k is so funny?” he shouted.
“You two.” Todd smirked as he stood up, and he said, “If there is nothing else, I want to go back to class."
The second officer sighed and said, "Come on! Is it necessary for a prodigal like you to go to class?" Meanwhile, the first officer walked over to the door to block Todd from leaving.
Todd’s ire began to rise and his right hand clenched into a fist as if he were about to strike the officer. With the Super Fighting Consciousness that had come with Proficient in Fighting Skills, he could disable them both in under two seconds.
The first officer saw what he was thinking, and he began to egg him on. “Go ahead!” he said. “Hit me. I dare you to. There is nothing that I would like better than to put you away for a very long time for assaulting an officer of the law!”
Todd did not have to think about it for long. He forced himself to relax, and he returned to the chair.
“That’s what I thought.” The officer laughed and smacked Todd in the back of his head. “You f*****g pansy!”
Two hours passed in silence, only to be broken by the sound of the second officer’s phone ringing. He took out his cell phone, and when he glanced at the caller ID, his entire face lit up. He winked at the first officer, accepted the call, and listened in silence for two minutes. Finally, he said, "Okay. I understand." And then he terminated the call.
“What was that about?” the first officer asked.
The second officer smiled and said, “It looks like we have got our evidence.” Then he turned to Todd and added: “You are now officially arrested."
The first officer laughed as he took the handcuffs from his waist. He shook them and said, “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to talk to a lawyer for advice before we ask you any questions. You have the right to have a lawyer with you during questioning. If you cannot afford a lawyer, one will be appointed for you before any questioning if you wish. If you decide to answer questions now without a lawyer present, you have the right to stop answering at any time. Say ‘Yes’ if you understand.”
Todd nodded and said, “Yes.”
“Alright.” The second officer was in a rush. "If you don't want anyone to see you in handcuffs, then follow us obediently."
Todd accepted the fact that he was under arrest, and he knew he could not escape, but he also knew his rights. “Alright,” he said. “I will go peacefully. But first, I would like to make a phone call.”
"Suit yourself," The first policeman shrugged and allowed him to call Harvey Occam. This was the only person he could think of that might be able to help him.
Once Harvey answered, he said, "Hey, Harvey, I am being placed under arrested. If you want to complete our transaction, find a lawyer to come to the police station and save me!"
Harvey agreed right away, and Todd terminated the call. Then he followed the two officers out of the school building. Unfortunately, the last bell had just rung, and most of his peers were milling about the hallways, and when they saw him being led away by two cops, his situation piqued their curiosity. Some of the students worried about his wellbeing, while others – like Caleb – thought it was a grand sight to behold.
One of Caleb’s healers leaned over and said, "There is no way for Todd to escape this time!" This was the heeler that had been in charge of investigating Todd's car accident.
“Of course, he won’t escape.” Caleb chucked. “One of those officers is my cousin. Anyway, go get the car. I want to go to the police station."

Harvey was perplexed by Todd’s phone call. He had been in a meeting preparing for the latest auction. He was reviewing several exclusive items with the executives when his phone rang. He checked the Caller ID, and when he saw that it was Todd calling, he excused himself to take the call. Once he was alone, he excepted the call, but before he could even say hello, Todd blurted out: " Hey, Harvey, I am being placed under arrested. If you want to complete our transaction, find a lawyer to come to the police station and save me!"
“Oh my Go – ” Harvey stopped when he realized that Todd had hung upon him. Well, that was rude! – he thought. He could not wait to be done with the younger man. For now, though, he knew that he had to play nice.
One of the people he had been talking to when Todd called was Winter Lincoln. He had been presiding over the meeting, and he was surprised that Harvey had answered the phone. This was a definite faux pas. "What's the matter with you?” He chuckled to show that it was a joke. “Did you find something good and ‘forget’ to tell me about it?"
Harvey smiled and said, "Perhaps…" And then he told Winter all about Todd Bower.
"Todd Bower?" Winter let the name tickle his tongue.
"What's wrong?” Harvey asked. “Do you know the man?"
“Not personally,” Winter replied. “But his reputation proceeds him. His father, Aaron Bower, is well known. He is the chairman and owner of D.S.G. Unlimited."
When Harvey heard that, his face lit up. He had thought that Todd was just another broke-ass loser on his way out. That was understandable because that is what Todd had led him to believe. Now that he knew the truth, though, the kid’s potential value to him increased ten-fold.
