Wren’s POV I never make it back to class after my little stairwell interlude with Alina. I try to—not because I particularly want to go, but because I want to spend as much time with her as possible—but, unfortunately, Kat and her friends seem to have other ideas. “Wren,” Kat sneers to me as Alina and I near Mr. Evans’ door. “What are you doing with her?” Alina spares me one, panicked glance before righting her expression and snapping, “Good question. Maybe you should keep a closer eye on your pets, Kat.” It hurts to hear her talk about me that way, but I get it. We’re both safer if everyone thinks we hate each other like we’re “supposed” to. “Gladly,” Kat replies, reaching out to take my arm. “Come on, Wren. It’s time you met the coven.” - - - - - I half-expected Alina to step in
