We Were What??

Jonathan POV   "Jonathan?" My mom. "Honey? You ok? You're pale."   "I-I'm just shocked, that's all, Mom," I assured her. But in reality, my mind was reeling. Could it be true? Could we have been kidnapped? And....could this voice in my head be real, not a figment of my imagination? So many questions were running through my mind. Or, was I a psychic or some weird s**t like that?    'After you ask your brother, you need to ask your dad,' Damien told me. 'There are things he knows that he hasn't told your mother.'   'You mean Dad is a....whatever you called me?' I asked, shocked.   'Lycan, Jonathan,' he snapped. 'It's not that hard of a word to remember. And no, but he knows of our existence. Very few humans do, but he does.'   'How?!' I demanded.   'That's for him to tell you,' he replied.    Mom was waving her hand in front of my face. I blinked. Dad had a thoughtful look on his face again, and Jameson was giving me this weird, unreadable look.    "I, ah, need to go check some things out," I told them. "Is it OK if I leave for a little while?"   Mom looked concerned. "Sweetie, you barely ate anything. I know this - " she indicated the papers - "is a lot to wrap your mind around, but you really need to eat something."   I knew her well enough to know it would be a lot quicker if I just shoved a few bites of food in my mouth than it would be to convince her otherwise, so I quickly shoveled a few bites of bacon and eggs into my mouth, then leaned over to kiss her cheek. "I'll be back in a couple hours or so, OK? I've got my phone with me if you need me."   "Well, OK," she said, sounding dubious. "Don't forget the birthday party is tonight at seven."   "I won't forget," I promised.    I gave Dad a one armed hug before I stood up and walked out, grabbing my keys off the hook by the door and slid my feet into a pair of flip-flops I kept right beside the front door. I knew Jameson would follow me out. Sure enough, he was hot on my heels when I walked out.    "Where are you going?" he asked me.   "I don't know, man," I replied honestly. "Maybe just on a drive to clear my head. Want to come with?"   "Sure," he replied. "Let me just let Mom and Dad know. I'll be right back."   He walked back into the house and I went ahead and cranked my car up. A few minutes later he came back out, also wearing flip-flops. There were basically a requirement for the area of California we lived in. He slid into my passenger seat, and we were off. I headed for the nearest coastal highway, figuring an hour or more of ocean views was exactly what I needed.    Once we turned onto the highway, Jameson turned to me and said, "So. Want to talk about whatever's on your mind?"   I sighed. "You're going to think I'm crazy."   He studied my face for a few seconds. "Try me," he said. Jameson POV   I admit, I was pretty much holding my breath, waiting on Jonathan's response. I was dying to know if he was going to tell me -    "Ever since last night, I've been hearing a voice talking to me in my head," he said in a rush. "Telling me I'm a - "   " - Lycan," I finished for him.   He gave me a shocked look, and the car briefly swerved into the other lane. Thankfully, there weren't any other cars near us. He immediately yanked the car back into the correct lane before stammering, "How-how did you know?"   "Because it's been happening to me too," I told him, relieved to have finally told someone. Most importantly, that I had finally told the one person I was closest to in this world.    'Told you so!' Damien crowed.   Apparently the voice in Jonathan's head did something similar, because we both snorted.    "It just informed me it - he, whatever - was right," Jonathan laughed.   "Mine said, 'Told you so,'" I said with a chuckle.    I could tell Jonathan felt as relieved as I did. We'd never kept secrets from each other, and keeping something like that from each other even overnight was a lot.    "Did he tell you his name is Damien?" he asked.   I shook my head. "Apparently, mine's name is Donovan," I replied.    'Damien is my twin,' Donovan informed me.   'Wait, what?' I asked, confused. 'What do you mean, he's your twin?'   'Usually, twins are assigned twin Lycans,' he told me.   'But you're inside my head. How can you have a twin? Also, assigned by whom?' I questioned him.   'I may technically live inside your head, but I have my own form too,' he explained. 'You're supposed to be able to change into my form, but black magic is keeping that from happening. At least, until you find your mate.'   'Until I find my what?!' I exclaimed.    'Your mate,' he repeated. 'Which, because you're identical twins, you'll most likely share with your brother.'   Apparently, Jonathan, was having a similar conversation in his own head, because we both yelped, "WHAT?!" out loud at the same time.    "Did yours tell you that not only do we have a mate, but we have to share the same one?!" Jonathan asked.   I nodded. "Yeah, he did. He also told me Damien is - "   " - his twin," Jonathan finished.    Jonathan pulled over at a gas station, and we both just stared at each other in shocked silence for a couple minutes.    "Dude, what do you think all this means?" I asked him.    "Well," he said hesitantly, "you know how I was asking Mom and Dad about our birth parents' names?"   I nodded slowly. "Yeah....why?"    He took a deep breath. "Bro, Damien is the one who told me their names," he replied. "And....there's more."   I frowned at him. "More, like what?"   "He said we were kidnapped," he said in a rush. "He said that Arthur was actually our uncle, and we were kidnapped."   I stared at him for a couple minutes. "Are....are you serious?!" I asked in awe.   He nodded. "Completely serious," he told me. Then he added, "Damien says to ask Donovan - he should be able to confirm it."   'Yes,' Donovan confirmed before I could even asked. 'I wanted to ask Damien first to be sure, but that just confirmed it. Mother Selene wouldn't come out and say it, but she's been hinting for a long time that Arthur had something to do with your disappearance.'   'And Arthur is....?' I asked.   'Your father's younger brother.' He put emphasis on the word younger. 'Well, I guess you could say our family, since you and I kinda share a body.'   'Does the birth order matter?' I wondered. 'Also, that will never stop seeming strange, having another being reside in my head.' If it weren't for the fact that things they had told us were actually turning out to be true, I'd suggest that Jonathan and I both go have our heads examined together.    'In our family, it very much matters,' he replied. 'I am under orders from the Moon Goddess to not tell you what kind of family it is, because she said that's part of the journey.'   'Of course it is,' I replied with an eyeroll.    "You're being awful quiet over there," Jonathan observed. "Talking to him?"   I nodded. "Yep. And he's telling me some pretty interesting things too."   I filled him in on everything Donovan had told me.   He groaned. "Looks like this is going to take us awhile."
