Jameson POV
Wait. Had he just said we'd be sparring with him?? I mean, yeah, we were actually a little bigger than him, but you could tell just by looking at him that he'd been training for years. We were both in good shape too, but that was mostly from football, not training to be a warrior. Those were entirely separate things. One just taught you how to get the football from one end of the field to another. The other taught you how to kill people while keeping yourself from getting killed. What were we thinking?
I looked over at Jonathan, who looked just as wide eyed as I'm sure I did. I glanced past him at Dave, who was laughing at us and our reactions. I then looked back at Alpha Terrance.
"Wait, are you serious?" I asked him.
His grin got even bigger. "Of course I am. This may be the only chance I get to kick a Lycan prince's butt. You think I'm gonna pass that up? No chance."
I laughed. "Well, all I ask is that you don't kill either of us."
He chuckled. "I'll try not to. I'd rather not have a p**sed of Lycan king down here because his kidnapped sons were found and I killed one of them."
We both laughed, but I'm not going to lie, I was nervous and I could tell Jonathan was too. I looked over at him. "Rock, paper, scissors?" I asked.
"All right," he agreed. "Loser goes first."
"Got it," I replied. "Now, rock, paper, scissors, go!"
I threw rock and he threw paper. D**n it!
"All right, let's do this," I said, sounding braver than I felt.
Alpha Terrance laughed and clapped me on the back on as he walked by me, heading out to the middle of the clearing. Just that clap on the back knocked the breath out of me for a second. Dude was strong.
'Yes, but we're stronger,' Donovan piped up.
'What's this we stuff? You're in my head, and we can't shift!' I yelled at him.
I heard him laugh. 'No, we can't shift, but I can still take control of this body,' he told me. 'Let me have control. Also, we heal faster than werewolves, so we have that to our advantage too.'
'We do?' I asked, surprised.
'We do,' he confirmed. 'Now, step aside.'
'What do you - ' I didn't even get to finish my sentence before I suddenly felt a surge of power go through my body, and suddenly I wasn't in control anymore. My head turned toward my brother without me turning it. That was a strange feeling.
Jonathan looked at my eyes and could see that something had changed. "Jameson?" he said hesitantly.
"No," Donovan replied. My voice sounded different - deeper, more gruff. "I'm Donovan. I'm taking control temporarily. Don't worry, Jameson is fine. A little weirded out, but otherwise fine."
Jonathan laughed. "Oh wow. That's going to take some getting used to. Damien is telling me we'll do the same for our turn."
Donovan nodded my head. "I knew he would. My twin is smart."
I saw Dave watching this whole exchange with a grin on his face. "Weird feeling isn't it, Jameson? Being inside your body as a passenger? Tex has taken over a few times and it's still weird all these years later."
I couldn't agree more. This was a very strange feeling.
"Jameson agrees," Donovan told him.
Dave laughed and clapped him on my shoulder, as weird as that sounds. "This is gonna be fun to watch."
"OK, everybody, clear out for a minute!" Alpha Terrance called from the middle of the field. "I gotta kick some Lycan butt real quick!"
Everybody laughed and cheered, then moved to the sidelines to watch. Apparently, it wasn't every day they got to see their Alpha spar with a Lycan, albeit an inexperienced one. I noticed he had left out the fact that we were princes, but I knew why. We didn't want anyone knowing who we were just yet unless they needed to know. Besides, we still needed to confirm that ourselves for 100% fact.
I took a deep breath and removed my shirt before stepping out onto the field. Everyone whooped and hollered as I joined Alpha Terrance in the center.
"Warriors, I want you to meet Jameson, and over there is his brother Jonathan," he called. "For reasons I don't want to go into just yet, they just found out they're Lycans so they're new to this. In light of that, do you think I should take it easy on them?" he added jokingly.
"H**l no, Alpha!" the warriors called back.
He grinned at me. "Well, you heard them. Now, let's do this!"
He backed away a few steps and assumed the same position I'd seen the sparring warriors in earlier - slightly crouched, arms held slightly out in front on him, hands loosely fisted, and he started slowly circling me. Donovan imitated his actions and stance, not taking my eyes off of him. He seemed to instinctively know what to do, so I just decided to sit back and enjoy the show.
Terrance lunged at me before I could blink, jabbing his right fist toward my face. Donovan dodged to the left, only to be caught by Terrance's swift left hook. Donovan answered with a right jab of his own, which Terrance managed to avoid. Donovan brought his left leg around in a swift, sweeping motion and managed to sweep Terrance's legs out from under him. He went down, but on his way down he hooked an arm around my chest and took us down with him. We landed on my back with Terrance on top. He was raining blows towards my face, but with a speed I didn't know existed, Donovan had both of Terrance's fists in our hands and flipped him off of us, completely reversing our positions. He got three good licks in before Terrance bucked and threw us off. We landed in the dirt a few feet away. Planting both feet firmly on the ground, Donovan sprang straight up and spun just in time to miss another blow from Terrance. He kicked at Terrance's abdomen, but Terrance caught our foot and flipped us head over heels. As we landed on our feet, I felt us being lifted from behind. Terrance threw himself and us backwards in a suplex. Still keeping a tight grip on us, he rolled to where we were face down and he was on my back. He got in several blows to the back of my head before Donovan managed to throw him off. He jumped up, but right as he did, Terrance's fist rammed into my face and I felt my nose break. But much to my shock, Donovan just reached up and snapped it right back into place - which hurt like a b**ch - then spun and kicked Terrance in the chest, sending him backwards several feet. He landed on his backside, sprang back up, and charged us. Donovan swung at him, aiming for his face, but he ducked his head and speared us, knocking us backward a few feet. However, I could feel that Donovan was getting the hang of controlling my body because he managed to stay upright this time. He ducked his head slightly and charged back at Terrance, catching by surprise by returning the spear and knocking him off his feet.
"Truce!" Terrance managed to say with a breathless laugh, holding his hands up in surrender.
Donovan grinned and reached out his hand to help him up. Terrance grasped it, but instead of jumping up, he grinned and yanked us down to the ground beside him.
"Gotcha," he told us with a grin. "Never trust your opponent."
"Lesson learned," Donovan said with a laugh.
Both of us heaved ourselves to our feet. Terrance reached his hand out for a handshake, and this time Donovan eyed him suspiciously before cautiously shaking his hand. Terrance laughed and patted my shoulder before we walked off the field to the cheers and hollers of the warriors that had been watching us.
"I'm going to let Jameson take control again now," Donovan told him. "Thanks for the practice - I needed it."
"You're welcome, buddy," Terrance replied. "It was fun."
"It was," Donovan agreed.
"Not too bad for your first time sparring," Terrance told him.
"Thanks, Alpha," Donovan replied.
I felt him take a step back mentally and suddenly I was back in control of my body.
"Wow," I said, holding my hands up and wiggling my fingers. "That was....different."
Terrance laughed. "It definitely takes some getting used to, having someone else in control of your body. Diesel has done it to me more than once."
"Definitely gonna take some getting used to," I agreed.
"Looks like your Lycan healing is already kicking in," Terrance told me, pointing to a cut on my arm.
I watched in amazement as it closed up before my very eyes, so smoothly that in seconds there was no mark there at all. "Wow! I've never seen anything like that!" I exclaimed.
Jonathan and Dave were watching us as we approached them, Dave with a huge grin and Jonathan looking like he was trying not to show us his nerves.
Terrance looked at Jonathan and grinned. "Your turn."
