CHAPTER TWELVE

714 Words
Scotland, The Day Of The k********g… Staring out the window of another limo, I’m awed by my new environment and all the sights my eyes can take in at once. I've never travelled anywhere that isn’t within a mile of my house, because of lack of money and well... who was going to take me? “So,” I turn to Grey who is once again sitting across from me, typing away on his phone. “What are they like… my supposed family I mean?” As soon as we landed at Edinburgh airport in Scotland, we grabbed our bags and walked out to find a black limousine waiting outside. “They’re… very traditional.” He answers cryptically. “You have a grandmother who’s your only direct relative, and an adopted uncle who has a wife and daughter. Your family is staying at the Campbell castle for the summer holiday, and when the holiday is over they’ll return to England.” “What about my parents?” He lets out a long sigh, for whatever reason appearing uncomfortable about the question. “They, unfortunately, died 17 years ago.” “You mean-” “Yes Miss Aurora, they died around the time you went missing.” Dropping my head with a frown, I mumble. “Oh.” beneath my breath, unsure of how to feel about this particular piece of information. “So, when you said my family will stop at nothing to get me back you meant-” “Yes again Miss Aurora, I was talking about your grandmother.” I look back up and tilt my head at the affectionate expression on his face. “She has waited a long time to find you.” “Well, I can’t wait to meet her too I guess.” I shrug, and he smiles, though there seemed to be a tint of sadness to it. The rest of the ride to… well to the “castle" as Grey had put it was a little bit of a long one. And when we finally got there I had to keep my jaw from dropping at the sight of the majestic building. We rode down a long gravel path, with lines of trees surrounding the area and a forest taking up the back. We pulled over before the castle's large wooden doors and my nerves rose with a feeling of anxiety. "Welcome to Campbell Castle Miss Aurora." Grey declares jovially and I turn to him with a stiff smile on my face, my stomach fluttering uncomfortably. As if he could read my mind he smiles in reassurance, leaning forward to rest his hand over mine. "Everything is going to be okay from now on Miss Aurora, you need not be nervous." His side of the door pulled open and we both turn to see Victor bending at the waist to peek into the car, he stared at me for a second before resting his gaze on Grey. “It's time to come down Grey, I just received a call from inside and Lady Campbell is anxiously waiting for you both." “Campbell, isn't that the name of the castle?" I ask, and the both of them turn my way. “The castle was named after your family's last name," Grey replies, turning to Victor he leaned in to whisper something in his ear and my mouth formed into a circle as I glance out the window to stare at the intimidating structure. "Miss Aurora?" “Yes." Blinking in surprise, I swivel back to stare at the both of them “It's time to get down." Nodding, I run my hands down my jeans nervously and sigh. Getting down with the help of Victor who had put his hand out for me to take, we wait for Grey to do the same. Closing the door behind us, Grey settles his hand lightly on my lower back and leads me around the limo to the castle doors. When we walked in though, my nerves plunged away for confusion. I did not expect the mansion to be empty and deserted. And judging by the dust clouding up the place I’d say no one has been here in a long time. Frowning, I turn to ask Grey what is going on when I received a hard blow to the back of my head. But before I lose consciousness, I heard Victor say to Grey. “Okay, that’s one down, one more to go.”
