CHAPTER EIGHTEEN

585 Words
The Kingdom Of Sakhalin, One Year Before The Selection… Waking up in a strange room, on a strange bed, with a stranger sleeping peacefully beside me was a little unexpected. Then the last memories I had before passing out, come crawling back, and then I realize I’m a part of a hostage situation. Role: the victim. “Great, your awake.” Startled out of my mind, I swivel to see the silhouette of a female leaning against a window. The drapes are drawn and the bedside lamp is the only light illuminating the entire room, so it’s hard to tell who’s the other stranger in here. “W-who are you?” In response, the lights in the room are suddenly turned on and my sights are blinded for a few seconds. Squinting my eyes open, I sit up in bed and look around the room in confusion as they adjust to the sudden brightness. “Where the hell am I?” Sighing, the strange female steps away from the window and draws closer, stopping in her steps when I shuffle back in apprehension. “You're very far away from home.” “I know that!” I snap in irritation. “I remember being kidnapped by a complete psychopath who tricked me.” Slowly taking her in, I blink a couple of times in surprise as I study her face for a long minute. It’s so startling to be staring at someone who bears a strong resemblance to you, and although her eyes are the colour of emerald gemstones compared to my aquamarine eyes, we seem to have the same ivory skin tone, dark chocolate brown hair, domineering height at 5’8ft, angular cheekbones, and soft lips that are crimson red. “You look just as surprised as I was when I first saw you,” Crossing her arms over her chest, she tilts her head and rolls her eyes heavenward. “I’d hoped everything they told me was complete rubbish but now, with the both of you here, I’m afraid we have a long journey ahead of us.” “What?” I scrunch my face in confusion, unable to understand what the hell she mumbling about. “Could you be a little bit clearer?” The stranger sleeping beside me snags our attention when she releases a soft moan as she slowly draws awake. Dark eyelashes flutter open to reveal the bluest eyes I’ve ever seen, and as soon as it registers that she’s staring into the eyes of a stranger, she’s out of the bed in a flash. Staring around with a startled expression, she asks a familiar question. “Who are you two… and where the hell am I?” Just like the first, it startles me to see another stranger whom I bear a strong resemblance. Just what the freak is going on? One could mistake us for identical triplets. The door across the room jerks open and three more strangers stroll in, seeing the boy who drugged me step into the room I got out of bed and pointed an accusing finger at him, yelling. “It’s you!” At the same time, my bedmate had yelled. “You lied to me!” Staring at each other, we exchanged a look of confusion. Sighing, an older man with sapphire blue eyes who looks strangely familiar stares between the three of us with a smile and folds his hands in front of him. “Well, now that everyone’s awake, I believe it’s time we begin our journey.” Recognizing his voice, a bright bulb suddenly went off in my mind. Wait a minute, isn’t he my father’s lawyer?
