Mrs Dewar lived in some style, with a villa between the railway to Arbroath and the Tay. An extensive garden surrounded the property, enclosed by a stout stone wall. The villa itself was relatively new, in Scottish Baronial style with a three storey-high pointed turret at the eastern side and windows that caught the rising sun.
