“Diane, I really don’t have time right now,” Alexi said. The redhead was sitting across from her, her legs crossed elegantly, her smile wide and inviting. But Alexi felt nothing for her, the usual attraction completely gone. What had she seen in Diane anyway? She was cold and ruthless. The s*x was good, yes, but surely that wasn’t all they’d had. She would never call Diane a friend, but they’d been each other’s release when they’d wanted company.
“Really, darling, we have an hour to spare, and we’ve fit s*x into less time.”
“Not today, Diane. I’m really sorry, but I’m busy and not in the mood.” Alexi stood. She’d have to talk to Clementine about letting Diane into her office, she should know better after their talk the last time. “Please excuse me, can I give you a call tomorrow? We and set up a dinner date and this.” She waved her hand between them, indicating the s*x.
Diane stood too, but she walked closer to Alexi, her hands reaching out and sliding up Alexi’s arms. She cupped her shoulders and pulled Alexi against her. Then her mouth was on Alexi’s and her tongue in Alexi’s mouth. Alexi moaned, her body, so long without relief and still on high from being in Kris’s arms two weeks ago, was on fire. She lifted her hands pushed against Diane, or she swore she was going to, but then found herself hugging the woman closer. Diane slipped her leg between Alexi’s and shoved her against the wall. A sound, was it a breath? A slap? Their heads snapped around and Kris stood by the elevator, her eyes shocked and locked on Alexi. The doors closed as she pulled free of Diane. She had to get to Kris.
Kris was restless. It had been two weeks since she’d been sick, and that morning after Alexi had slept in her arms, they’d had breakfast, and then she’d left. The past two weeks they’d hardly spoken. When she’d seen her around or texted, all Alexi would say was that she was busy. But Kris knew something was going on, their morning ritual of eyes meeting in the elevator camera was also something she missed. Alexi always seemed missing. Kris wondered if it was from what had happened or something else. Had her being sick, scared Alexi away? It seemed like another weekend would pass without them talking about it. It was her weekend to go to the ranch and she’d packed the night before, so all she’d have to do was get this day over with and get out of there. But she wanted to see Alexi. Kris checked the time for the hundredth time and decided to pack up. Her work was done for the day, no one had needed her, and surely, she could take off an hour earlier. She picked up the phone on her desk and pressed the extension to Clementine.
“Yes, Kris?” Clementine had finally started calling her by name. They also got on like a house on fire, after she’d told Clementine that she’d taken Alexi away to relax a few weeks ago.
“Is Alexi in her office?”
“Yes, but she has a visitor.” The way Clementine said visitor, made Kris sit up straighter.
“Is everything okay?”
“That’s not my place to say, and none of your business,” Clementine said, protective of Alexi, as always.
“Just tell me if she’s okay, that’s all.”
“I…” She began then took a deep breath. “I don’t know.”
“Thank you.” Kris stood and made her way to the elevator. As usual for the past few weeks, there was no Alexi on the other side of the camera. The doors slid open on Kris’s floor and the first thing Kris heard was a low moan, then as she stepped inside, she saw them. Alexi and a woman, Alexi was pushing at the woman’s shoulders and Kris was about to step forward when Alexi pulled her closer. The other woman shoved her back against the wall and pushed her thigh between Alexi’s legs, while she dragged her shirt from the waist of her slacks. Neither of them had heard the doors open and were wrapped in each other. Alexi backed off, her heart feeling like someone had stabbed a hot poker inside and was twisting it, from side to side. That explained where Alexi had disappeared to the past few weeks. She thought, as she turned the doors started closing and she slapped a hand out automatically to stop them, the noise brought both women’s heads snapping in her direction. She didn’t wait for them to say anything, just stepped inside the elevator, her eyes locked on those of Alexi, who looked shocked, but dazed. Kris scoffed, of course, she was dazed, she’d been about to be f****d against the wall, by the tall, beautiful woman. Kris grabbed her s**t and left the building. Clementine called her, she almost ignored her but decided the woman deserved better. “She’s fine.” She scoffed again. “More than fine.” She turned and walked away.
Clementine stared after her and wondered about the wounded look in her eyes. She’d just disappeared out the door when Alexi came rushing into the lobby.
“Kris?” She asked out of breath and looking wild.
“She just left. Is everything okay?”
“No,” Alexi said. She watched as Diane came strolling toward her, her pace slow and deliberate, showing off her legs and toned body. How had she ended up against the wall in her arms?
“Is everything okay, darling?” She drawled and slipped her arm around Alexi.
“Yes, just fine.” Alexi stared out of the glass door, hoping to see Kris walking back, angry, or not. She just wanted her to come back.
“Do you have time for that dinner now?” Diane asked, oblivious to the storm inside Alexi, the ache in her gut.
“No, I’m tired and I want to go home. I’m sorry Diane, but no thank you.” Alexi turned and walked back to her office. Not caring whether she was rude or not. Clementine would make sure Diane left.
