After dinner, Darren sent Amelia back to the hotel.
She kept silent all the way. Darren knew it was his “like” that was disturbing her. He felt her mood change instantly after he said it. The ambiance surrounding her from then on was not sad or troubled, but confused and…distant.
Darren wondered if he had done something wrong. He meant to tell her he loved her, but it might scare her, so he changed the word to “like”. It turned out that she didn’t like that word either.
“Amelia, did I upset you?”
