I gently knocked on the door of Dad’s office and received a curt come-in for inside, before I turned the latch to poke my head in to make sure he was alone. I smiled as dad made eye contact and took a deep breath to steady my drumming heart, before taking a step inside. He cheerily waved for me to come in but I made sure to lock the door on my back without turning away from dad. I clasped my hands at the back and took tentative steps toward him, so he would notice my hesitation.
