A Power Shift

1083 Words
(Unknown P.O.V.) Glass shattered into a million little pieces and I let out a blood-curdling scream. "The little b***h's powers are still in their infancy stage and she's already starting to push back against my control," I paced the floor, not caring about the little pieces of glass cutting up the soles of my feet. From the corner of my eye I see movement. One of my subordinates trying and failing to hide from my wrath. "Get your ass over here," I yelled, pulling him forward with the flick of my wrist. "Yes s-s-sire," he stuttered as I dropped him to my feet. "Have you detected the source of the other power shift yet?" His black eyes darted around the room nervously, "No sire, but- but our general said he's getting close." I grabbed him by the throat and brought him close so were nose to nose, "How close," I growled, ignoring the smell coming from the goblin. "D-da-days sire. They've just arrived in India and are moving north. The power signature keeps changing. Weak to strong and then strong to weak the General said," he finally spit out. I drop him to the floor again and hear a snap. He stands back up but doesn't whimper or complain, one of the few benefits of having goblins working for you, "Tell your general he has three days to get the information I need or I'm replacing him and his team. Now leave." "Ye-Yes Lord Kazimir." I watched as he limped out of the room with a compound fracture and a trail of thick green blood following behind him. These goblins complained very little but were dumber than a stack of bricks and if it weren't for their obnoxious strength in such a small body I would have started using my army of undead instead. I looked at the mess on the floor again and growled to myself. This was the fourth damn mirror she has destroyed trying to block me and this ritual of replacing it was getting old fast. I opened a small portal to my treasure room and retrieved another mirror, then proceeded to turn the remaining shards of glass on the floor into sand. Once that was done, I began working on my next steps. At the rate she was breaking my mirrors, I was going to have to make an in person visit sooner than I had anticipated and the thought of interacting with her was making my stomach turn violently. If I could make a puppet and avoid leaving my sanctum, then I was going to try that first. (Deianira P.O.V.) At the same time Minka was having her nightmare and shook the pack house awake I was having my own nightmares. Minka's puppeteer was growing stronger each time he would visit her subconscious and the crystal I was attaching to her dream catchers were just barely holding him at bay. After calming Minka down for the night I could tell Alpha Anya was becoming increasingly stressed over Minka's wellbeing just like her mother was. That constant stress was what eventually killed poor Amelia. Werewolf or not, no one can cope with the amount of stress she had placed on herself. I watched as Anya paced her office and smiled. She reminded me so much of Sadie that there were times when I would forget that they were not the same person. A gentle knock at the door stopped her pacing and when her mate, Simon, came in she almost immediately relaxed, "How is she?" he asked, handing her a cup of tea. Anya sat and gratefully accepted the warm cup, "I don't know how to protect her," she admitted, "And that scares me." "Don't sell yourself short. You are one the most powerful Alpha's this pack has had since your grandmother Sadie was Alpha. We will keep Minka safe by helping her know how to keep herself safe," I said. "I'm not powerful the same way she is. Minka has magic far more potent that anyone has ever seen and she's just barely getting them. I can easily read auras like I'm reading a book and yes, I have some telekinetic power and my wolf has the same universal mind-link the rest of the female Alpha's have had in the past but Minka is showing signs of elemental magic and as far as reading auras she's been doing that long before she could walk I'm sure of it. What else is she going to be capable of and is this pack let alone the Global Council going to follow her leadership when she ascends?" Simon put a hand on her lap and she shot him a look before taking a deep breath, "Sadie would always overthink and second her instincts too. It took her years to finally let loose and trust not just in herself but those around her. You learned to trust yourself far sooner than your grandmother and even your mother so please put that trust in me now. I've already contacted the twins and their brother to help teach Minka what she needs to know about controlling her new magic and they'll be coming home in a few days. In the meantime, continue doing what you are doing. She needs your support and strength now more than ever." After calming Anya down we all went back to bed. She had every right to worry. We were all dealing with an unknown threat that was trying his damnedest to manipulate her daughter. Once she had more control over her magic she would be able to better defend herself from magic attacks. As for physical attacks there was someone else I had in mind entirely. It's been a while so there was no guarantee they'd even be available but this was Minka we were talking about so there was little doubt that she wouldn't drop everything and come rushing in on the first flight here. I slipped into bed and sent a psychic message to Genevieve that she was needed home and hoped that whatever she was up to that she would actually be able to drop everything and help. A few seconds later my phone on the dresser buzzed with her response: Stop talking in my head and use the damn phone next time! You scared the s**t out of me, booked the next flight out, and will be home soon. Love you ;) I smiled and sent another psychic mind link: Love you too!
