Chapter 5: Caught In The Act

1341 Words
IN the next few days, the young master rarely stayed at home. He usually eats breakfast and is already out of the house by the time I arrive to start work at 9 am. He’s not back at the mansion yet by the time Lucas and I leave. I am actually really because I was so embarrassed with what happened on his first day back at the mansion that I wouldn’t know how to react when I see him again. I am just thankful that he didn’t get me fired. Miss Alexandra and her family had already left the house, but Miss Caroline and her family stayed behind. Miss Caroline usually leaves the mansion alone and leaves her kids behind. Each of her kids had nannies, so they were well taken care of. Her husband, on the other hand, always stays in the mansion. I’ve always wondered if he’s working because he doesn’t usually leave the mansion whenever he's here. I was on my way back from sharing a sandwich with Lucas in the garden when I heard a man and a woman’s voices coming from behind the bushes. I couldn’t help but investigate, and I was shocked when I saw that it was Nica and Miss Caroline’s husband. Their lower bodies seem to be naked and pushed together. I have never been in a relationship and have not even kissed a guy before, but I know exactly what they are doing. It appears that Miss Caroline’s husband is having an affair with one of the maids. As they kept doing what they were doing, I could hear their moans and grunts getting louder. I got out of there as fast as I could. I didn’t want them to know that they have an unwilling audience. As I made my way back to the kitchen, I couldn't get the image of Nica and Miss Caroline’s husband’s bodies writhing against each other out of my head. I wonder if I should tell Miss Caroline about it. Knowing her, though, she might get mad at me and say that I am just making it up. Besides, I have no proof, and I am pretty sure they would deny it if Miss Caroline confirms it with them. I decided I just wouldn’t meddle with it. I am not involved anyway, but I can’t help but feel bad for Miss Caroline. She’s always been unlucky in love, and the string of relationships she’s had in the past just left her with multiple babies. When someone finally married her, he ended up cheating on her with one of the maids. I wonder if he really loves her or if he just married her because she’s rich and she can support him even if he doesn't work. I can’t stop but be mad at Nica, who willingly participated in the affair. It didn’t look like Miss Caroline’s husband was fornicating with her against her will. How could she sleep with a married man? More so, how could he sleep with the husband of one of her bosses? This whole situation will only turn out bad for everyone involved. I decided to forget about the whole thing and resumed working. When Lucas and I went home, the sun had not set yet, so he asked that we go get some street food before we went home. We just got our paycheck, so I obliged, and we decided to eat some barbeque. As we were eating, I decided to tell Lucas about what I saw earlier. I started by saying, “I have something to tell you, but promise me you won’t tell anyone.” Lucas looked at me, raised his right hand, and said, “I promise. What is it?” I let out a sigh before I resumed talking and said, “I saw something earlier when I was on my way back to the kitchen after the break earlier.” Lucas replied with “What did you see? It’s not a ghost, is it?” I grimaced as Lucas seemed to be making a joke and not taking me seriously. “No, it’s not a ghost. Why would I ask you to keep it a secret if I saw a ghost? Besides, there are no ghosts in the garden, are there?” Lucas shrugged his shoulders as if saying he doesn’t know before saying, “I was just lightening the mood. You’re too serious. Come on, spill. What did you see?” I finished chewing before talking once more. “So, when I was on my way back to the kitchen earlier, I heard some voices behind the bushes, so I went to investigate, and then I saw Nica and Miss Caroline’s husband. They were--, Uhm, they were--” “Having s*x?” I looked at Lucas as he didn’t seem surprised. I didn’t know how to say it and was thankful that he at least finished my sentence for me. I replied with “Yes! Exactly! Why don’t you seem surprised?” Lucas shrugged his shoulders once more and said, “I’ve seen them doing it before. They’ve been having an affair for quite some time now. All the gardeners have seen them at least once.” I was so surprised that it has been going on for a while, and Miss Caroline doesn’t seem to have a clue. I pitied her more and said, “Wow, how could he cheat on his wife. And they have a kid too.” Lucas said calmly, “Well, some men are like that. They don’t care who they hurt. They just care about who they sleep with. He probably knows that no one will rat him out.” “I wonder why Nica is doing it too. She knows he’s married.” I still couldn’t stop thinking about how Nica could be a willing participant in all of this. “Well, he probably made some promises, like how he would divorce his wife and marry her instead. I wouldn’t even be surprised if he’s been giving her money.” I was shocked as I didn’t even think of this possibility. I kept shaking my head as I used to think that once you’re married, you’re in for the long haul. I couldn’t understand why some people would cheat on their spouses after vowing that they would love and cherish them. I guess for some, getting married does not mean that much. We were quiet for a while until Lucas asked, “How about you? Do you want to get married?” I looked back at Lucas and said, “Yeah, someday. I want to graduate from school and help my family first. Although even if I get married, I’ll still probably help them financially. My husband has to be okay with that.” Lucas nodded and said, “If it were me, I wouldn’t mind if my future wife helped out her family. Since I don’t have a family myself, I will probably help her help her family.” Lucas is an orphan, and her parents passed away when he was 12 years old. His aunt took her in but never really took care of her. He’s been working since his parents passed away and has supported himself. Usually, he buys his own food because his aunt claims that they only have enough to feed herself, her husband, and their kids. This is why Lucas moved out of his aunt’s house as soon as he was able to. Now, he lives alone in a small apartment and only has himself to take care of. I smiled at Lucas and said, “That’s nice. You’re going to be a great husband to a lucky woman someday.” He smiled back, but it didn’t reach his eyes. It’s like a sad smile. I didn’t ask him anymore why he seemed sad. I just assumed he must be tired from work. After eating three sticks of barbeque, I was full. I bought some more to take home to my family.
