CHAPTER 8: THE GREAT ESCAPE

FIONA'S POV: Floating in and out of consciousness like a swimmer caught in a rip current. One moment, it felt like my feet were solid on the ground. The next, they were sliding away as though a wave crashed over me, spinning my mind and filling me with vertigo and pain. Still wrapped up in a strange weblike dream, I could feel the world around me tilting. There was someone else in it too but at this particular moment, I couldn’t be sure if it were in my dream or not. At that precise moment, dream became reality—I could not exactly say but I felt suddenly awakened. I could hear someone calling my name but they sounded so far away. Slowly I became more conscious, hearing the voice closer and closer until...Tyler? Was that Tyler? I struggled to open my eyes as they felt heavy like they had tons of bricks resting upon them. Slowly I let my eyes open and immediately regretted my decision to do so. The lights were turned on again. My head was throbbing and all I could focus on was trying to not black out right then and there again. I slowly opened my eyes again, feeling groggy. After blinking a few times, I managed to keep them open. My whole body felt like jelly but at least it didn't hurt as much as it did when he placed the iron on them. Slowly, I sat up, resting my elbows on my knees and for the first time, I noticed that I was no longer bound. Red angry marks stained my wrists, a sign that Tyler had just taken off the ties. “Fiona. Hey hey, listen to me.” Tyler said to me in whispers, the urgency in his voice causing me to furrow my brows in confusion. Why was he whispering? I voiced out my thoughts. “Why are you whispering? We’re alone here.” He was searching frantically through his bag for what I knew nothing of. Once again, I noticed the frantic way in which he was searching and the way that his entire frame seemed to shake with a certain sense of urgency. “Listen to me, Fiona. You have to do exactly as I say. We don’t have much time.” The urgency in his voice made my heart rate spike and caused adrenaline to flow through my veins. He was going to help me escape? Help me leave this room that had been my prison for what felt like weeks? I didn’t have the time to ask him any of the questions that fillled my mind as he was already tossing some warm clothes into my hands and he began speaking again, taking care to keep his volume low. “The Alpha is very occupied right now and the guards usually stationed at the door of the room have been dismissed for tonight, seeing as you’re the only one locked in here for now. We have to hurry and leave before the Alpha notices you’re gone.” I hurried into the clothes that had been shoved in my hands, still trying to process all that was happening. Why was Tyler helping me? “Why are you doing this? Who exactly are you?” I asked as I pushed my hands into the sweater. “That’s not important. Right now, we need to go.” Without waiting for my reply, he grabbed my hand and pulled me from the floor with a little force, causing me to stumble and nearly fall over but he reached out and steadied me. He kept a tight hold of me and guided me out the door, and through a set of stairs. At the end of the stairs was some sort of hallway, with his grip not faltering on my arm. We moved fast but as carefully as possible. Tyler kept walking, not stopping for a second to look back, pulling me gently along with him. Just before we reached the end of the hallway, Tyler came to a halt, turning around to address me. “You see that door there?” I looked beyond and could see the door that was left slightly open. Nodding once at him, he continued. “The Alpha is in there, we are going through the other door but you have to be quiet when we pass through. Like I said earlier, he is occupied so we have a good chance of making it out.” He said. I nodded again and watched as he took a step forward to open the door, and I followed suit. He had let go of my hands and was no longer tugging me, but instead was leading the way by being infront of me. I could hear him whisper for me to stay close and not to make any noise. So far things were going alright, we entered the hall with the open door and the moment we stepped through, I heard it. Grunts and moans. A slither ran through my spine and my entire body felt heat from the passion that I could hear in it. The moment we passed the door, I halted in my steps, forcing Tyler to stop in his tracks too. Inside the room was the Alpha over a female who held onto him like a lifeline while he pounded into her. The sight caused my mouth to water and a soft whimper escaped my lips. Suddenly, the Alpha stopped abruptly in his movements, pausing to take a sniff of the air. Tyler wasted no time in pushing me towards the door. “Run, Fiona! Run into the woods,” Tyler said and the situation finally hit me, wasting no time, I pulled open the second door, and ran out of it, not turning back for one second to confirm the turn of things. Running as fast as my legs could carry me out the door and into the woods behind the Alpha’s home. For a moment, I heard no sound behind me, not the Alpha and not Tyler, but I didn’t pause in my movements to discover what had happened. I continued my flight, deeper and deeper into the woods, the feeling of branches slapping at my face and arms did little to deter me. If anything, it spurred me on. I was running as fast as I could manage in an attempt to escape from the scene that was unfolding behind me. Knowing that the Alpha would never let me live if he got a hold of me. Breathing heavily, sweat dripped down my back and tears streamed down my cheeks. It was dark all around and all that I could see in front of me were tall trees that loomed menacingly above me. Then I heard it, the growl behind me, warning me that the Alpha was hot on my tail. My breathing grew ragged as I tried desperately to gain more speed. This couldn’t be happening. The ground shook from the force of the Alpha behind me and in the next minute, my feet were stumbling and I found myself falling backward, landing hard on the ground. Pain erupted in my back and as I landed heavily on the floor, the Alpha’s giant wolf was on top of me in a split second, pinning me to the ground with a large paw. My eyes widened. “No, please, no.” At this point, I wasn’t sure if I was begging him to let me go or begging the universe to help me. I struggled to escape from the huge weight and the beast pressed its weight even harder against me, almost crushing my chest. I cried out in pain. “Let go of me, leave me alone!” I screamed out as much as my lungs could allow me. gasping for air, barely able to breathe. Inhale. Exhale. I struggled to remind myself in my wild panic. I couldn’t think straight. Every inch of my skin was prickling with fear. I tried pushing him off of me but he wouldn’t budge, not half an inch. Tears blurred my vision and I watched the golden eyes of the Alpha’s wolf glow dangerously, his teeth were bared, snarling savagely at me. A warning. The hair at the back of my neck stood on its end and goosebumps formed on my skin. Sending shivers down my spine. My struggles ceased to exist as I stared helplessly into the depths of the Alpha’s eyes. It was terrifying. All of the fight left me, leaving me defenseless and pliant as I lay helpless beneath his massive paws. The Alpha snarled, snapping his jaws close. In less than a minute, he had transformed back to his human form, his gaze unwavering on me. In a fluid motion, he picked me up with little effort and threw me over his shoulders. It was silent. The fact that the Alpha refused to say a word spoke volumes about what he planned to do to me. I didn’t dare move. Not a peep or movement. I could hear the loud pounding of my heart and felt a strong rush of fear threatening to overcome me at any moment. But I dared not utter a word. All I wanted to do was run away from him, far, far away from him but at the moment, I could move no muscle as he headed back towards his home.
