JASON’S POV
—
She’s light as a feather as I carry her all the way back to the pack, my beta, Elion, asked if he should carry her and I just growled at him. He was silent after that the entire walk. As we arrive, the guards look at her, the people working in the gardens look at her, the people passing while carrying things looks at her and I am very aware that she’s wearing just a t-shirt. I wish a blanket could appear around her, shielding her from everyone’s gaze, but that’s impossible. I ignore everyone as they stare and walk right into my house, Elion is the only one that follows me down to the basement and my heart is tearing apart knowing that I have to leave her there in a cell.
My parents use to talk about the legend that I think she is, I thought it was a myth, but here she is, her hands spreading death. I wonder if she knows what she can do, I wonder if she knows what she is.
I lay her down on the crusty bed, but before I could pull my arms out from underneath her, I pick her back up again. ‘I need clean bedding in the basement, immediately.’ I inform my head maid through the mind link. I hold my unconscious mate to my chest, leaning against the cold stone wall with my bare back and lower to my haunches before sitting down with her on my lap. She lays limp in my arms, her body limp and all I do is stare at her tanned skin, her finger tips look soft like they can’t do any harm. My eyes trail down her petite body. She’s healthy, but she’s thin. She isn’t starved, but she clearly doesn’t have all the nutrients she needs. Her eyes are a little sunken in like she hasn’t been sleeping, but being a rogue probably has it down sides. “Is she…” Elion starts to ask, “Yes,” I stop him from saying the word. I don’t know if she’s fake sleeping or if she knows what’s she is. All I want is her safe and out there, where anyone can find her, is not safe.
“And your…”, “Yes,” I cut him off. No one needs to know who she is to me or how important. I’m glad the words weren’t spit out in front of my men, I would have made a fool of myself if it did. No alpha gets mated to a rogue wolf, no alpha finds their mate in the woods. I was suppose to find my mate at a ball where all high ranked wolves go to, where they dress up and there are drinks involved, where the royals are apart of it and informed about the new mates. The big issue now is that if anyone finds out, the royals are going to want to meet her and she doesn’t seem fully tamed.
“Are you going to inform…”, “Elion, shut up.” I snarl and he stands upright, standing against the wall with his hands behind his back. Not even ten seconds later, an omega girl comes in, bowing and she freezes when she notices Mallery in my lap, but she quickly moves on to changing the bed’s sheets. “I also want this cleaned up,” I tell her as she tucks the fitted sheet. “Yes, Alpha.” She doesn’t once look at me. When she’s done, she bows in front of me again, “I will go get the broom and mop.” She stays in the bowed position, “Thanks.” I stand and she walks off. I place Mallery on the bed, smiling when her pitch black hair falls in her face and I brush it gently out of her face. “Shall I stand watch?” Elion asks. I don’t know if I want him to be alone with her.
What if she wakes up and she’s scared?
What if she accidentally murders him, I bet she won’t but it is a possibility.
“No, can you go handle the meeting in an hour?”, “But that’s the meeting with…”, “I know, if she wakes up before it I will come up, but I want to talk to her.” I interrupt him again and I think he’s getting sick of it. His jaw tightens as he bites down on his teeth and it irks me to think that he wants to stay down here with her. “Is there a problem?” I turn to him, staring him down and his gaze drops to the dirty stone floor, “No, Alpha.”, “Good, now go.” I grit out and he turns, walking off.
The omega comes back, cleaning the stone floor until it even smells clean and leaves. I don’t know how long I sit on the floor, my back to the wall, knees hiked up and my elbows resting on my kneecaps, arms straight as I fiddle with my fingers. She stirs after a while and I get up, not wanting to be seated when she sits up. I don’t know how long she’s been a rogue, but she isn’t that young and aged to get her mate. Her head rolls to the side, her hands feeling around and she looks uncomfortable as she props herself onto her elbows. There’s frown lines on her forehead as she glances around, gasping as she sits up against the wall when her eyes lock with mine. She has silver blue eyes and she’s beautiful. “What did you do to me?” She croaks out, touching her throat. I immediately mind link someone to bring water and food down for her while staring at her. “Hello?” She snaps, her voice a little louder and it echoes off the walls.
“I am protecting you.”, “I wasn’t in danger,” she argues. “That’s what you think, if we found you, anyone can find you.” I lie. I have a highly skilled group of trackers who found her, not that I was looking but I did find a smell in the new area I had bought. Over the years, I have bought more and more land, this was a large acre of land and near the river, I smelled her but I could never find her, so I gathered the people who could sneak up on her. “Who would want me?” She looks so disgusted asking it and I lower to my haunches, tilting my head, “I don’t know,” I shrug. It’s clear that she doesn’t know how powerful she is. “Do you have others that live with you?”, “Others?” She frowns, “Yes, family,” I shrug, my hands opening. I can’t stop gesturing, I’m nervous to be so close to her. My body is pulled to her, my hands want to trace her skin, but I hate to admit that I’m afraid of what would happen if I do.
She stares blandly at me, her silvery blue eyes holding sadness, “I don’t have family.” Her voice is emotionless, like she’s suppressed her feelings. Does she even feel?
Can she feel?
I never read the entire page of the demon wolf, I didn’t think it was important. It all seemed like fiction, but seeing how the grass died around her hands as fear burned in her eyes were enough to make me believe in it, in her. She’s real and when I get out of here, I am going to find every book on her.
“None?” I ask baffled. “Not anymore, they gave me up.” She shrugs, still showing no emotion. “Gave you up?” Who would want to give her up? She’s special, kind, beautiful…She’s strong too and I can’t imagine anyone wanting to get rid of her. She’s a weapon and she seems like she doesn’t even know it. “Yes, are you deaf?” Her snappy tone catches me off guard and I step forward, immediately hating it and I hover over her, “Don’t.” I warn and she sinks back, her head pulling into her shoulders. “I’m sorry…” her lips barely move as she speaks. I sigh when I realise what I’m doing and I take a step away from her single bed, dropping my head back and run my hands through my hair.
“I am the alpha here, you can’t just…” I groan, unable to be mean to her. “I said I’m sorry,” her fear tainted voice making me look at her. Her expression is bland, but her eyes hold every emotion that she feels. Her gaze flicks to the gate of the cell and I turn to look at the locked gate, a small omega standing there with food and a bottle of water. I unlock it, taking the food and turn, slowly inching closer to her. Her scent is sweet, “Here,” I hold it out to her and she stares at the plate as if she doesn’t know how to take it, or that she doesn’t want to but her stomach grumbles loudly. “I didn’t poison it, I wouldn’t do that to my mate,” I sigh, “I won’t do that to you.”, “You knocked me out with dust.” She grits out, her eyes narrowing out of anger. “You were scared, and you weren’t listening.”, “You took me from my home!” “You couldn’t stay there!”, “I have for ten years!” She bellows.
Ten years?
“How old are you?” My face scrunches up, “Twenty three.” She’s been given up at the age of thirteen, right after she got her wolf, right after her powers probably began to work. “Just eat.” I put the plate down next to her, toss the bottle on the bed and I leave without a word.
