Halie's POV
"Oh my god!" I yelled and ran out of my room. Aunt Carol gave me a questioning look and I freaked out. "It's game day!" I said in frantic and she laughed. "Calm down Halie. Everything will be okay," she told me and I groaned.
"What if I forget the dance?" I asked and she giggled. "You'll be okay honey," she reassured me with a soft smile. "You've been practicing the last few weeks nonstop. You're ready," she told me and I sighed.
"Ugh. I guess. I should get going. You going to come?" I asked and she nodded. "Wouldn't miss it for the world. Now, go! Go meet Ian," she told me and I smiled. "I don't know. He hasn't talked to me the last few days," I told her, frowning.
"Oh honey, he'll be excited to see you. Get going love!" She said chirpily. "Okay!" I said excitedly and jumped up. I grabbed my bag and ran out the door to Ian's house. His door opened before I got there and I jumped into his arms.
"I've missed you," I mumbled and kissed him softly. I glanced at him and noticed he seemed off. "What's wrong?" I asked and he shook his head. "Nothing. Just need to be focused. No distractions," he mumbled and I stepped back.
"Got it," I said and picked my bag back up, shaking my head in disbelief. I took out my phone and called Heather, ignoring Ian completely.
"Hey girl!" I said with fake enthusiasm. "Hey honey. What's up?" She asked and I bit my lip. "Can you come pick me up? I need a ride," I told her and she laughed. "On my way," she said before hanging up. Thank god she doesn't ask questions.
"What the f**k was that about?" Ian asked and I rolled my eyes. "Like you care," I mumbled. "I need to be focused. No distractions," I said, mocking him while staring into his eyes.
His nostrils flared and I scoffed. "What the f**k are you mad for? Can't take what you dish out?" I asked and shook my head. "See you later Ian and good luck," I mumbled, turning away from him.
"Halie, wait!" He yelled and I stopped. "What?" I asked in annoyance. "I didn't mean it like that," he said, walking towards me. "Yes you did Ian," I whispered. "Right when we are doing good, something happens and we are back to square one," I mumbled while walking away.
Heather's car pulled into the driveway and I quickly made my way to it. I hopped inside and told her to drive. She gave me a questioning look and I sighed. "I kissed him and he was cold towards me. Told me he didn't any distractions," I mumbled and she gasped.
"Jerk!" She yelled and I laughed. I couldn't help it, this chick always made me smile. "Right?! Like hello, I thought I was your girlfriend? Or almost girlfriend. I don't even know what we are. I'm giving him a chance. Shouldn't he be more nice and opened towards me?" I questioned and she shrugged.
"I wouldn't know. I'm single," she said sadly. "Cheer up buttercup. Let's go get dressed and ready," I told her and she smiled. "Yes. Let's do that," she said, pulling into the parking lot.
We climbed out of her car, grabbing our bags while laughing. "Uh oh," Heather mumbled and I looked up. Ian was walking towards me with an unreadable expression.
"You go. I'll be there shortly," I told her and she nodded. "I'll kick his ass if I need too," she mumbled before glaring at him. She walked away and I stood there, waiting for Ian to be in front of me.
"Halie, can we talk?" He asked and I nodded. "Look I'm sorry. I know I've been distant over the past few days and I was rude earlier. I need to have a clear head today. I can't have you all in my head messing with it," he told me and I frowned.
"If this is your way of apologizing, you suck. You just hurt my feelings, yet again," I told him with a sigh. "s**t, Hales. I'm sorry baby. I really am. You distract me in a good way, okay?" He pleaded with me for forgiveness.
"If this is how you're gonna be for now on, then maybe we shouldn't be together. Football season has just started Ian. I can't deal with your mood swings for the next however the hell long," I whispered.
"You can't ignore me one week and be a d**k then expect me to just forgive you. Not once did you try and reach out," I told him. "Halie, please," he begged and I swallowed deeply.
"I'm sorry Ian. I can't. I can't fall for you if that means I'll be hurting all the time. I live next door to you Ian. Right next door and you ignored me to the extent where I don't know how I'm going to do it."
"Halie. Don't," he whispered and I sighed. My heart was hurting and my eyes burned with unshed tears. "You had your guys there for a week. Talking and drinking. Hanging out with them. Not even doing anything relating to football!" I yelled.
"I could hear everything! You all weren't quiet. Every time I texted, you left me on seen. Every call, you forwarded. I tried to be understanding. I really did," I whispered.
"Good luck tonight Ian. I really hope all your time with the guys and ignoring your distraction paid off," I mumbled before walking away.
I didn't let myself look back because if I did, I would run back into his arms, crying. "Don't do this Halie! Please, I need you!" He yelled and I hiccuped, letting the tears roam freely.
"Didn't seem that way," I whispered to myself.
