Chapter 7: Redemption

Gwy's POV I thought I knew better than anyone else since I was born a shaman. But that is a hard false now. I always know about the future at some point. I always know about good directions. But now, it felt like I was totally lost. Who would have thought that I, a generic shaman whose fate is to be alone forever, be entangled with an arrogant Alpha? And now, this flirty Alpha of Fountain Pack is here to rescue me. I must be really cursed. "A-Alpha Qirak?!" "Don't worry, my dear Gwyneth. I will make sure to take you back," Alpha Qirak assured me. "Who the hell are you? Why did you trespass on my pack?!" Suddenly, Alpha Devon appeared with his cold stare. "I am Alpha Qirak of the Fountain Pack. I am here to take back Gwyneth Hathaway," Qirak confidently answered. "I refuse! You will not take her back. She's mine!" "Alpha Devon, you know that we have a courtesy, right? You cannot take her unless we approve!" "Nonsense! That woman is my mate!" Alpha Qirak suddenly laughed. He was touching his belly while the whole crowd became so eerie. "Oh, that was funny!" "Are you insulting me in my own pack, Alpha?!" Devon's voice was louder than before. He looked like he was about to explode. "Alpha Devon, you must be mistaken. Gwyneth Hathaway is born to be mateless!" Qirak revealed. That revelation earned loud gasps from the spectators. For some, being mateless for eternity is considered an illness to them, but to shamans, it's nothing but a privilege from the Moon goddess herself. There is nothing mightier than a wolf who spends life alone in integrity and humility. Devon's jaw tensed at that moment. He was eyeing Qirak but his lips remained pursed. "That is why I don't believe you. Gwyneth is and will never be someone's mate!" Qirak continued. "And do you think you already know about me and her? You won't understand us, Alpha. How would a mateless Alpha like you understand?" Devon talked back. "W-what did you say?! I am mateless! The priestess herself told me that my mate was not born yet! So, technically, I am not mateless. But you... you have to be careful in offending the moon goddess. You are scandalizing her sacred servant!" "I don't care about f*****g fate! When I say she's mine, she's mine! And if someone is against it, I will have no choice but to kill you!" Devon declared and instantly moved swiftly to smack Qirak's face. It was so sudden that I didn't even get the chance to breathe. I gasped and covered my mouth. Now, the two Alphas are fighting each other. They both fought in their human forms. Their brawling made the ground split into two. Many tables and chairs were torn to pieces as their bodies were thrown from place to place. Gosh! How can I stop them from beating each other up? "W-will you two stop?" I tried calling them out but it was no use. They continued to hurt each other as though no one was with them. "I said stop!" My voice roared the whole place. Finally, the two of them stopped and looked in my direction. They both pushed away from their brawl and moved towards me. "You're coming with me, my Gwyneth. Cloud and Epiphany are waiting for you at the temple," Qirak said to me. "You're not going anywhere, Gwy!" Devon shouted. He suddenly appeared beside me. He supported my back and pulled me closer to his body. "W-what do you think you're doing?!" "You're my mate, Gwy. When I say you are, f*****g believe it!" I jumped at his frightening voice. His eyes were ablaze with an unknown passion. I couldn't read him. I don't think I lost my power. I can still see Alpha Qirak's future, even other people's future that surrounded me. But with this man... The Alpha of Black Dew Pack... he's no ordinary werewolf. I can't even read him. He's the only person whom I can't read right now. What's happening? "Just stay by my side..." Devon whispered to me. His words somewhat trembled my whole being. "Y-yes... I'll stay..." I finally said. "W-what?! Gwyneth, you must be kidding me. I thought you were—" "Alpha Qirak, I'm sorry for all the trouble," I said to him, "but I need to stay here. Please tell Cloud to take charge for now." "And how about you? What if this man tries to hurt you? I heard this man ransacked the temple. You can't stay here. He's dangerous!" "I will be okay, Alpha. I promised! I need to stay here because I need to do something. For now, please take care of my assistants. Tell them I am sorry and that I will return soon," I decided, then frowned. I have no choice but to stay. If not, I will put Alpha Qirak's life in danger. It's no secret that Alpha Devon is a wicked werewolf. He spares no one. The least I can do is to stop him from hurting the people I cherish the most. Whatever he is achieving, I have to participate for me to keep my temple safe, too. Alpha Qirak sighed and shook his head. "I don't trust this pack. But since you insist, I have no choice but to retreat. But please... take care of yourself, my Gwyneth..." "I will! Thank you for reaching this far. But I can't leave this place for now. I hope you understand..." Qirak nodded and eyed Devon ruefully. "I will not take back my actions, Alpha. I still believe that Gwyneth is not safe in here, but for her, I will compromise." He looked at me for one last time before he sped away and out of our sight. After that huge commotion, everyone from Black Dew Pack went to their homes peacefully as if nothing happened. I was hurriedly sent to Devon's room. My heart won't stop beating so fast and I hate that I felt like I highly anticipated to meet him. "Grace, what should we do? I'm running out of options. We can't stay like this forever!" "Don't ask me, Gwyneth. You're already smitten by him. I don't believe you!" my wolf angrily said to me. "He is not our mate! I am certain of it. I felt nothing but disgust for him. Are you certain that he's our mate?" "I'm not so sure, Grace. But I clearly saw my face on that dark pixie! I am certain that I am that woman." "But I don't feel anything toward his wolf. This is weird. What could this mean?" I was in front of Devon's room when a strong hand suddenly pulled me inside. I moaned after hitting my back to the wall. Then, two strong hands pinned me. "Now, care to explain about what happened earlier, my priestess?" angry Devon suddenly asked me. His voice seemed low and threatening. "D-Devon... I can explain." "You better! Because I was completely humiliated in front of my own people!" "I'm sorry. It won't happen again. I promise!" Devon pushed me to the ground and looked at me in disdain. "You should be thankful that I still keep you alive. Ungrateful shaman!" he cursed more under his breath then stormed out of the room leaving me so fragile and helpless. What am I going to do now?
