Gwy's POV
"I understand that she is your destined mate, but why choose her instead of rejecting her?" Margaux started bluntly. Her face showed disgust over the topic... me.
"She's too weak and utterly suspicious! What if Fountain Pack has plans against us? What if they ask her something that will harm Black Dew Pack?" she added.
"I don't want to be biased, but I think our Beta-female is right. We don't know this lady. And from what we heard, she practices witchcraft. That is against our code in the Black Dew Pack. And we need to seriously take this matter given that we have a lot of enemies around," Den, the bodyguard seconded.
"A witch?" Margaux smirked and eyed me in my seat. "I'm not surprised why you're so proactive in accepting her, Alpha Devon. She must have bewitched you! I must say... I'm impressed! If Delta Den's claim is true then she must be executed quickly!"
Some of the council members also barked the same sentiments. I'm a bit annoyed at how they fought about me being here when I was only dragged here by force. And now they bark at me with the pretense of using witchcraft! Are they still living in the 15th Century? Ha! Gimme a break.
"These hostile werewolves! How could they disrespect you like this, Gwy? You should tell them the truth!" Grace barked.
"Oh, come on, Grace! That good-for-nothing handsome and sexist Alpha threatened to destroy my temple if I didn't cooperate. So, how can I ever dare to tell them about knowing their place?" I rolled my eyes internally. "I'd rather wait for them to throw me out."
"What if they kill you? Oh, if only I could get that spell, I would make you shift and bite off their asses!" she remarked gritting her teeth. Grace is a calm wolf, as all generic Eastern witches' wolves are, but at times that we hear disrespect she retaliates more than me.
"Calm down, Grace. I'm sure we can figure out something. For now, let's just let them be."
"Silence!" Devon stomped his fist down the table which shook most of the council members. His eyes pierced through them like daggers. "No one dares to disrespect my Luna! Whether you like it or not, Gwyneth Hathaway will be my Luna. So, save your bubbles for other things important!"
Silence reigned for a while before someone butted in.
"Alpha, our next agenda will be about the concurring feuds between the Zetas and Copenhagen Pack," Den followed.
Devon arched his brows to him. "Have we settled this matter last month?"
Den shook his head. I'm afraid not, Alpha. Copenhagen Alpha, Alpha Schiek, said they refuse to have peace talks with our pack. They seek revenge following the death of Iwa..." Den trailed off his sentence. His eyes looked meaningfully at Devon.
I arched my brow. "Iwa? Who is that?" I asked myself in a whisper. "Was she some sort of a royalty? A princess?"
This gets a little weird. But most of the topics they tackled were too boring. I didn't know that they liked talking about boring stuff. After the meeting, I was about to return to my room when I heard a familiar voice beside me.
"Follow me..." Devon sternly demanded as he walked past me.
I scoffed silently and obliged. We stopped in front of his room. He opened the door and threw me a large bag.
"Woah!" Phew! That was close. I almost didn't catch the bag. What's with him anyway?
"Let's go..." he said as he walked past me again.
"To where?"
"No more questions, priestess."
"Your council doesn't like me. I think you should better listen to them. As I told you before, this isn't a match made in heaven. We're a doomed couple!" I said to him while we walked past buildings until we reached a large gated field.
The gate opened automatically in front of us. After that, I followed Devon inside. There was an iron table with five types of guns. Pistols, revolvers, and the rest were unknown to me.
I put the bag beside the table and sighed. "What are we doing here?"
"Can you just shut f**k up and just follow what I say to you?" he barked.
"Well, sorry! I have the right to inquire. You dragged me here and now treat me like I'm your servant."
Devon threw me an apple. "Stand there." There is his cold voice again. He pointed to the spot in front of the table.
I, having no idea, was obliged by his words and stopped in my tracks.
"Walk ten steps backward."
"What?"
"No more questions! Just do it."
I grunted and balled my fists. After that, I stepped backward. On the tenth, I saw him assembling his gun. He loaded it with unknown bullets.
I gulped. "W-what are you doing? Devon... you have to drop that!" My limbs started to shiver. What the f**k! He's gonna shoot me!
"Put the apple on top of your head now. Don't even think about getting out of there, priestess. One wrong move and this silver bullet will drill into your head," he coldly warned.
"s**t! Okay, whatever I said to you a while ago that made you upset, I'm taking it back. Devon, you can't kill me!"
"That depends on the bullet, priestess. So better not move or this will be your last moment in life. Now, get that f*****g apple on your head."
I gulped and closed my eyes. After composing myself, I put the apple on top of my head. I made sure I had the right balance.
"Moon goddess, help me!" I cried inside my head.
Devon finally finished his assembling and aimed his gun at me. "Better not move, my priestess..." he warned in a cold voice.
"D-Devon... this isn't necessary, okay? I give up! I'll do everything you say. Just don't kill me!" I begged. My tears started to trickle down my cheeks.
He closed his right eye and focused on his target.
My heart pounded so loud I could no longer feel my face.
So, this is how my life will come to an end...
I will never come back to Shaman Temple just like I promised to Cloud and Epiphany. I have let them down.
"Gwyneth, do something! He'll kill us if you don't move!" Grace cried.
"I'm so sorry, Grace. I'm not that brave. I will never be brave..." I whimpered.
Fire!
A loud boom began followed by a wheezing sound that hit me.
I gasped and knelt to the ground. My breathing stopped, and so as my heart.
Then, the apple parts fell beside me.
"T-the apple. It's... ripped..." I slowly fell to the ground until I lost my sense of hearing. My eyes started to dim.
But I can still clearly hear your footsteps.
I tried to look at you but your face was already blurry.
"D-Devon..."
"That's how you should trust me, priestess. Just like this, you can be assured that I will keep you safe no matter what. Just stay with me until I no longer need you. Stay..."
Then, everything went black.
