Chapter 5: Every Rose has its ThornJosh stumbled over logs and stones. His breaths burned in his chest as he steadied himself on tree trunk after tree trunk. It couldn’t be much farther now. He could almost see himself from above, filthy and bruised, staggering along a narrow path. What was he doing? He should go home, shower, and eat some breakfast. Jett would grumble about the coffee being too strong and pour in heaps of milk. They could sit there next to each other, sip on the hot liquid, and pretend nothing had happened. What if it hadn’t? Josh came to an abrupt stop. The traffic was a steady hum on the other side of the curtain of trees, and it intensified for each minute. He had to be close to town. His clothes clung to his sweaty body, his head pounded, and his hand throbbed. He n
