“Oh man, this is crazy. Say, how long would it take me to get to Reserve if I take off as soon as we get back to the airport? I’d give anything to be there right now. I really don’t want to miss this. This may be the proof we’ve been seeking that these fires really are set by terrorists, at least some of them. I ‘spose they’ll meet the border patrol or whatever at Reserve. I saw it’s on the highway.”
Romero shrugged. “It’ll take you a couple or three hours, even if you drive like Mario Andretti. That highway is like this one, curvy with some blind corners. I’m not sure how far the forest service guys have to go to get back to their base camp or what kind of road it is. I’m betting it’ll take them half that or longer.
