Jamie jolted awake on his Beta’s sofa. His heart was pounding wildly in his chest. His c**k, hard as steel. He had been enjoying quite the dream of the human woman from the alley before he felt a scream barrel it’s way through his sleeping mind.
Jamie sat straight up, Julien as well at the noise Jamie made from the far side of his room.
“What is it, Jamie?”
The two had stayed up discussing everything and nothing for hours past when they should have gone to sleep. Jamie could have gone to a guest room, could have gone to any other room in the house. There were plenty of open beds but Jamie never wandered far from Julien. His room was right beside his Beta for a reason. Nightmares of his parent's deaths, the battle that brought them both to early graves often plagued his sleeping mind. Anyone who dared approach him in his sleep was likely to be killed as Jamie was so often disoriented upon waking.
Twice in his twenties, he had tried to allow one of the many she-wolves he brought into his bed, to stay the night. Both times the she-wolves barely left with their lives. Only Julien was able to get through to him when he was in the realm between awake and his nightmares so Jamie had learned to sleep alone and to always keep Julien nearby.
It was nearly 10 am and the sun was climbing well into the sky. Not such a rare thing for either of the males on a Saturday morning. The scent of a late breakfast was working its way upstairs and Jamie could hear omegas in the hall. Likely sorting out his destroyed bed situation. Julien must have mind-linked them last night.
“I just felt a scream. I-I think it was from the woman in the alley.” Jamie said, his voice low and rough as he shook the sleep from his body.
“You felt a scream?” Julien asked, eyebrow raised, an uncertain tone in his voice.
“Yes. I felt it. As if It were me screaming. I swear it must have been the woman.”
Paxton, Corey, Alex - report. Now. What is going on at the target’s house? Was there a scream from inside?
Julien sent the message through the mind link to the three warriors he had stationed to guard and watch the human woman’s house last night.
Alphas, Betas, and Gammas could mind link to anyone as they saw fit whenever they wanted while non-ranked pack members could only mind-link ranked members while not in wolf form. Only Alphas and Lunas, though, could mind-link the entire pack at once.
She didn’t know it yet but she was immediately in danger. So many Black Pine Forest Pack enemies would love nothing more than to get their claws or fangs deep into Alpha Jamie’s mate. Julien needed to get answers fast as he knew Jamie was moments from shifting and racing through the forest in broad daylight to the woman's house.
She saw Corey in her backyard. Replied Alex through the link.
Jamie’s jaw clamped tight and his teeth ground so loud Julien could hear the strain on his molars.
What the f**k were you doing so close to the house? Jamie used his Alpha tone, as low and controlled as possible as he shot the message back through the link.
He felt the fear in all three warriors as the message was received.
We heard, uh, well we didn’t know what we were hearing so we had to get close to see and, uh, well, she was not in danger Alpha. It was our mistake to be seen but we only moved to make sure we did not overlook a potential attack. This time it was Paxton who replied.
What do you mean you didn’t know what you were hearing? What did you see when you looked in the house? Julien sent down the link.
Uh, well, she was being very, erm- loud and we couldn’t quite tell why. So Corey jumped the fence and uh, well, she was on the floor with what looked to be a human man Beta. She was, uh, engaged with him in a s****l manner. We think that was the cause of her, uh, yelling.
Jamie saw red.
His claws begged him to release them. Begged him to shift and bound out through the forest, through the human territory in broad daylight to find and murder the damn man who dared touch her. He sucked in deep heavy breaths with his eyes sealed shut as he fought against his wolf to remain in control.
Understood Paxton. Be more careful, we do not want to scare this target off. Try to ID the guy from a distance. Find out who he is and what their relationship is.
Julien dropped the link before the field team could reply.
“Breathe Jamie, you will ruin it all before it starts if you go there and rip her lover limb from limb.”
“Don’t you think I f*****g know that?” shouted a fuming Jamie.
His fists were clenched white in rage. Julien flinched as Jamie rarely used his Alpha tone on him.
“I’m sorry Julien- I didn't mean to.” he finally said, loosening his grip just a little.
“No need to apologize Jamie. Go, get ready for the day and let's talk over breakfast about how you want to go about this. I will have the omegas bring it up to the study.”
Julien gave his best friend and Alpha a genuine smile as he got out of bed and headed into his bathroom. Jamie sighed, running his hands up his face and into his still tousled hair.
It was going to be a long process to get through to a human woman. To explain to her their ways, what she meant to him and his pack- even still, some humans did not feel the mate bond as werewolves did. Some humans felt nothing, others felt it just as strong as the creature. It was so different for every human- Jamie had no idea what to expect.
But he was certain, if he was not before, the feeling of her fear in his soul was the proof he needed.
She was his mate. She was the rightful Luna of the Black Pine Forest Pack. She was made for him as he was made for her.
Heaving himself from the sofa, Jamie shuffled his way down the hall and into his neatly tidied room just as two young female omegas made their way out.
Bowing their heads to bare their necks in submission to Jamie as he passed by. He shot them both a warm and friendly smile- something his father would have never done- before thanking them in the mind link for their help with the room.
Of course Alpha, anything you need. Replied the prettier of the two. A tall slender female, young with vibrant red hair. She was just his type- well, was just his type.
Now, all he wanted was a 5’6 dirty-blonde human woman with deep green eyes, thick muscular thighs, and a waist that was made for his hands to hold her on top of him as she rode him again and again.
The thoughts of her dragged him back into the extreme need for release. His c**k hardened again at the memory of her face. Even in her terrified sweat-drenched form, she had been the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. The sweet and salty sweat he had tasted on her skin; her scent- that delicious mix of morning dew and sweet summer rain. She didn’t smell like food or the forest as so many other females did to him. She smelled of the two things he enjoyed about his pack lands the most. The fresh rolling green fields to the west, coated in morning dew as he trained the young pups each spring. And the sweet release of the summer rains as they downpoured in sunny patches all summer long.
He needed a release, and fast.
Stripping from his sweatpants, he eagerly jumped into the shower. A hand already wrapped and pumping before the water even fully heated. He was not going to last long, although he knew the craze of the mate bond was going to have him ready for more only moments after one release.
Harder and harder, he tugged himself closer and closer to that sweet release as images of the woman in the alley played through his mind. As her scent, her taste swirled through his memories.
Just as he was about to c*m-
It's her fiance- Jason Campbell of Campbell House Publishing. He doesn’t live with her full time but he has a key. They left and I might have...slipped in through an unlocked window.
Paxton’s voice rang out clear in Jamie’s mind. Chasing away the thoughts and scents of his mate- his release along with it as he went limp in his own hand.
“f*****g hell.” Jamie bit out to himself as he switched the water from hot to cold.
She was engaged. To a human equivalent of prince charming.
Jamie knew all too well who the Campbell’s were as they not only employed half the human lands near his pack territory but they owned damn near half the surrounding suburbs as well. Publishing was their original business, but it was far from their only.
Many town meetings had been held when the ban on magic went up and although Jamie was not yet Alpha at the time he had attended. He had even met Jason Campbell once or twice. Although, being nearly a decade older he doubted Jason could possibly remember any of the encounters.
What is her name? Julien asked back down the link.
Jamie was grateful for his beta now more than ever as Jamie wanted nothing more than to kill Paxton right now, even if he was merely the messenger.
Charlotte Midnight Stone, but it seems like she just goes by Charlie. Paxton answered again.
“Charlie.”
Her name sent a wave of pleasure over his body as it slid from his lips. The cold water of the shower still raining down on him, the corners of his mouth pulling up into a smile.
Good job gentlemen. Do not let her out of your sights though, who followed them? Julien asked
Alex and Corey did. I stayed to do the recon and watch the house. We will report more in a few hours Beta.
And with that Julien severed the link.
Catch all that boss? Julien asked through a direct link to Jamie.
Yes. Yes, I f*****g did. Jamie replied.
Call up Noel and send for her omega team at the town library. I want every piece of information on her, on Jason, and everyone they interact with- all of it in detailed reports as soon as possible Julien. I need to know everything about her so I can plan how to go about this.
Roger that cap’n Julien said cheerfully down the link before cutting it off.
Any member of the pack took a prideful joy in serving their Alpha, but to help the Alpha secure their Luna- it would be an honor just to print the reports.
Jamie pulled on some fresh jeans and a black t-shirt, his usual uniform on a weekend. Sliding a burner phone into his pocket and grabbing his motorcycle helmet from its hook in his closet- he quickly made his way down the packhouse stairs and through the front door.
He needed to see her again. He needed to just glance at his Charlie- even if she didn’t have any idea who he was. Even if it was only the back of her head. He just needed to be near her.
Alex, Corey- what is the location of the target?
