Miranda enjoys her party, dancing with many of the males, convinced she’ll find her mate tonight as well as her wolf. She leaves the dance floor, and tries flirting with the single alphas.
None of them really pay her much attention beyond politeness. She saunters up to the Alpha King, carrying an extra glass of champagne. She bows, and then offers him the glass. He smirks at her, as she tries to flirt with him.
“Happy birthday, Miss Blackheart.” He says before taking a sip of the offered drink.
Miranda smiles, “Thank you, Sire. Are you enjoying the party?” She replies.
King Magnus, looks down at her, seeing through her facade.
“I am delighted that you found time to attend my birthday party.” She says gently placing her hand on the king’s arm. She hears no sign of a wolf, or feels no tingles. The king removes her hand, and smiles down at her. “We are not mates.” He says.
Not brave enough to anger the Alpha King Magnus Erikson. She curtsies the King, “Thank you again for attending. It’s an honor to have royalty in our home.” She says and then takes a step back.
“Tell, me Miss Blackheart, what happened to your sister? I am surprised she is not here.” He says not quite dismissing her.
“Daddy sent that mutt away so she couldn’t embarrass me on my special day.” She replies with venom dripping from her voice. How dare anyone bring up that wolfless disgrace.
“He sent her away, huh? He told me something different. Who dares lie to the Alpha King?” He growls, and then waves his hand, indicating she should leave. Before she does so, she can his green eyes gloss over indicating he is mindlinking someone. Miranda backs away and then rejoins the party, and gets another glass of champagne and gulps it down.
Miranda drops her glass and it shatters on the polished hardwood floor. Her body was suddenly on fire. Madeline takes notice, and goes to her daughter.
“What’s wrong?” She asks the nearly sweating teen.
“I just all of the sudden got really hot and my bones ache.” She replies with a shaky voice.
“You’re going to be fine. It’s your wolf.” Her mother says walking her out of the french doors, and through the garden.
“You are going to shift, and meet your wolf. The goddess has blessed you.” Madeline says, her voice sounding relieved. Always fearing her daughter wouldn’t get her wolf like that mutt Calista.
Miranda’s body contorts as her bones shift, and elongate. She screams as her claws come through. A moment later, she stands. She looks at herself and finds she's covered in soft brown and white fur, she turns and sees her mother smiling proudly at her. Miranda sniffs the air, and then tilts her head back and lets out a long howl.
The rest of the pack come out to see the new wolf. She turns and takes off running through the meadow, and into the woods. The rest of the pack shift, and join her on her maiden run.
The giant solid black wolf of King Magnus stands out from the entire pack. Towering over the others including the Alphas. As they run, the king veers off into a different direction, he stops and sniffs the air a few times and picks up a light lilac scent. “I want that smell.” Ivar says in his head. “It’s just flowers.” Magnus replies.
“It might be our mate!” Ivar argues.
“We don’t have a mate. If we had, we would have found her already. But, I like that smell too.” Magnus takes off running again, trying to get closer to the smell, but it remains faint. As if someone was masking their scent. They eventually turn back and join the pack.
