Chapter 10 Hindered by Someone

862 Words
She could actually speak the language of Country A. Before this, Brianna wasn't sure whether she was the girl from that night, but she was positive now! "Miss Rose?" Brianna's subordinate didn't understand why she'd suddenly stopped and said, "The meeting's about to start." Brianna handed the documents to her subordinate. "You bring these documents to Mr. Clay first. I'll be there right away." "You can start tomorrow." Despite Emily's lack of experience, the fact that she could speak Country A's language was more than enough. After all, it was truly hard to find someone who was fluent. Emily stood up and bowed slightly. "Thank you." She walked out of the interview room happily. The moment she was gone, Brianna walked in. "That woman doesn't meet the criteria. We can't hire her." "She doesn't have any working experience, but she can..." "Do my words mean nothing to you?" Brianna said harshly. She was Dylan's secretary, and more importantly, she was his girlfriend. She was the most likely candidate to become Dylan's wife. Who would dare offend her? Though the interviewer felt dismayed, they still gave in. "Yes, I understand." As Emily walked out of the building, she couldn't help feeling delighted. She felt like there was finally some hope in her life. Life was getting better bit by bit. She hailed a taxi and headed to the Davis family. Soon, she arrived at the Davis family villa. She paid and got out. She walked in, her footsteps light and steady. In the living room, Sophie, her stepmother, was dressed in silk pyjamas and seated on the sofa. When she saw Emily, she raised a delicately plucked eyebrow. "Why, if it isn't Emily Davis." Emily's eyes fell on the jade bangle that Sophie wore and frowned. She'd seen it in her mother's jewellery box when she was a child. Ellen had told her that her own mother had bequeathed it to her. Yet it had now fallen into Sophie's hands. Emily suppressed her emotions and said, "I'm here to see Mason." Sophie didn't even bother looking up as she played with her neatly manicured nails. "I suppose life isn't exactly fun for you, huh, marrying a lame?" "That's not something that you need to worry about," Emily replied indifferently. She asked again, "Is Mason around?" Sophie finally looked up and appraised Emily. "You're like a string bean. Nobody would be interested in you, not even that lame." Emily couldn't help smiling coldly. At this moment, she was actually rather thankful for Dylan pretending to be paralysed. At least it gave her a chance to come back here. Would they regret not allowing Rachel to marry Dylan if they were to find out that he wasn't paralysed? After all, Dylan was handsome, capable, and rich. Plenty of women wanted to be with him. Since Mason wasn't around, Emily didn't want to waste time bickering with Sophie. She turned to leave. When she reached the door, she saw a car drive in and park by the door. It was Mason's car. Soon, the chauffeur opened the door and Mason stepped out. When he saw Emily standing at the door, his expression darkened when he guessed that she was here for her mother's belongings. He didn't give her a chance to speak and said, "You can have your mother's belongings once you do something for me." Emily frowned. "You said that you'd give me back Mum's things once I married Dylan Clay!" Mason snorted. "Why would I want you to marry him? To help the Davis family, especially business-wise, of course!" Emily trembled with rage. "How can you just go back on your word like that? Can you even be considered a man?" "You're really out of line!" Mason had an ugly look on his face. "How dare you speak to your father like that!" Emily felt cold to the core. He'd actually gone back on his word! "If you want the things, tell Dylan Clay to give me the development rights for Frozen Bay." After that, Mason swept past her and walked into the villa. He stopped a few steps away from her and said, "That land is extremely important to me. As long as you can persuade Dylan to give it to me, I'll give everything of your mother's back to you, including that piano." Emily had never expected Mason to be so shameless! She couldn't trust him at all. She had to think of another way to get back her things. Emily narrowed her eyes. The land Mason wanted was in Dylan's hands. It looked like she had to work on her 'newlywed husband' if she wanted Mason to bend to her will. How was she going to do that? Though they were married, they were nothing more than strangers. Emily couldn't think of anything even when she was back at her house. However, she received a call telling her that she wasn't hired. "Didn't you tell me to start tomorrow?" Emily said anxiously. "I'm sorry, but we can't hire you. You don't meet our recruitment criteria." After that, they hung up. Emily stared at her phone for a long time, feeling dazed.
