Only two cardinals, a male and a female, were perched on the oak tree’s branches as they snacked from one of the feeders. Jesse furrowed his brows. He leaned across the sink so he could peer around the side lawn. Nothing on the tree. Nothing on the lawn. The clown was gone. “Am I losing it?” he wondered aloud. He shook his head. He had seen it last night. “I should have taken a damn picture.” Jesse opened his phone and lost several minutes Googling all he could about clowns.
