When Magic Flows

ONE IN HARMONY

“Dear beloved, we are here tonight to celebrate the rise of a new era to our coven. As everyone here knows, I have been leading our coven for almost 19 years now and today our daughter Allegra turned 18. So, it is time to prepare ourselves for changes. It is time for me and our generation to step down and give the new generation space to rule over us and guide every member of our coven to a bright future of growing, learning, and living in harmony with nature.” She made a small pause and looked at me before continue saying: “My dearest Allegra, I could not be prouder about the woman you are becoming. You are getting so strong, so compassionated and sensitive. May the Goddesses help you lead our coven in the path of light and turn us altogether stronger than we were up to today”

And then all the coven answered in unison: “Goddesses, guide us through your daughter!”

At that moment, my grandma brought us a small bowl and a dagger, witch my mom took from her hand and sliced a cut in her hand, followed by a cut in mine. Then we joined hands and let the blood flow in the bowl. Small sparks started to come from our hands and a cold wind passed through us, carrying some leaves up and making a circle around us to indicate that the spell bounding was working. 

A few moments later an apprentice made a bandage in my hand and it was my time to speak:

“My dearest Moonrise Coven, we are here together tonight to testify history happening. As various leaders before me, I beg for the Goddesses to light our path and give us harmony with nature to work as one in favor of a strong and peaceful coven. Seeing your approval tonight means a lot not just to me, but to my family. I vow tonight to learn every lesson in preparation, to consult the counsel at hard times, and to lead our coven firmed on justice, balance, and harmony. I also vow to protect every member of our group, accept and comprehend everyone as my siblings, children, and parent. Tonight, I vow that we are one.”

“One in harmony” the coven responded. 

I smiled at them, and they started to applaud and cheer. I was actually overwhelmed with the responsibility that I would have over them. It was a serious job. But at the same time, I knew that this was meant to be. I was born to serve this coven as best as I could, and I would do wherever I could to do the best of this job.

And then the clouds that were covering the moon gave it some space to shine over our celebration and I walked with my heart pumping in my chest towards that light. It would be now, the moment to discover the natural element that would give me strength for this rule and reign over my powers. 

As the light started to shine on me I saw my dream vision. I started to float in the air and the moonlight was bathing me. I felt the tingle and I was light. I was harmony and I could feel life pulsing in every detail around me, and when I finally felt a warm sensation in my wrist, I knew it was forming my mark. 

And it has the sun, the moon, and the stars. The sky would reign over my powers. I was beyond happy. I would be strong all the time, not depending on night or day. This was something else. 

When the light dimmed and I was back to the earth, my mom and the rest of my family came to see how nature has marked me, and I could hear my mom’s gasp. She was amazed too. 

“This can only mean that you are special, darling. This means that you are enormously powerful and rare. We need to learn everything that is possible for your powers. Talk to the ancients, check-in with the oracle to see if they can shed some light on this… everything. And you must be careful, beloved. This amount of power can bring us the protection and power that we need but this could also attract the attention of witch hunters and other covens and, most importantly, this could attract dark wizards.”

Okay, now I was a little scared. I have never seen a dark wizard. I only heard stories about them and how difficult was to keep yourself in the path of light. I just knew that once you decide to follow this path, you are practically gone and could not practice light magic. Now I have three things to protect: the crystal, my coven, and my own life. Great.

And then she continues: “But we can treat this new discovery tomorrow. Tonight, it is time to celebrate!” and grabbed my arm and directed me toward the stage again.

“As we continue this ceremony now, I invite the current coven lieutenants to join us and perform the ceremony indication.”

The lieutenants were some small group leaders chosen by the Goddess itself to help the Coven leader to rule over all the community. They were chosen in the Pass Flow ceremony to rule for the same time as the Coven leader. 

As the current lieutenants approached the stage, I sat down in one of the chairs that were available for the new community rulers and waited for their ritual to be finished and the new names were revealed. I was hoping that Sybil would be one of the chosen for this job. It would be easier for me to have my dearest friend helping me and counseling me with this complex task. 

The lieutenants started their ritual putting on a drop of blood in another bowl and burnt it with sacred oils and other ingredients, and then smoke came from the bowl in spirals. Then the light started to shine from the recipient and small spheres of light started traveling toward some of the young adults present in the ceremony, revealing the Goddesses’ will for the next generation. The spheres stopped upon their heads and then it was time to present them.

Then my mom said: “May the next generation lieutenants come to the stage and join us, please!”
