Lucea frowns in the direction Mia has disappeared from.
Feather brain? Sounds kind of mean, but Mia must have had a bad encounter with Cassandra in the past if she describes her like that.
Not knowing what to do, she decides to go to her house. She is going to read a chapter or two of the novel before going to bed.
She has successfully reached the door to the house when she notices someone standing beside it. Her heart jumps, and she touches her chest and looks closely at the person.
To her astonishment, it is the same guy she found kissing Cassandra earlier. If Lucea is not mistaken, she saw the guy walk in the direction she came from. How is he suddenly here?
Must be wolf speed. She has to get used to this, because now that they live among werewolves, even their parents will begin to display their full abilities.
The big question now is what does this Roderic guy want here?
She waves at him.
"Hi. I didn't know anyone was here."
"Are you scared? It is just me," she can just make out a smirk even in the moonlight.
Just seconds in his presence and she has already decided she doesn't like him.
Being this close to him, she notices he has good looks and he knows it. She understands why all the girls love him. And she is relieved to find that she isn't the least bit attracted to him.
"I am not scared. I was just surprised to see someone standing here."
"You have a wonderful scent," He says in a flirty tone, causing her to narrow her eyes at him.
"Thank you. I will go in now."
"Don't go in yet. How about I sneak you away for a few hours? I want to give you a proper welcome, Lucea."
Lucea is surprised both by him calling her by name when she hasn't told him, and by what he is asking her to do.
"Firstly, who told you my name? I don't remember telling you."
"I was standing behind the crowd when the Beta was welcoming you into the pack, so I heard as he introduced you all."
"Sure you did. Well, I can't go anywhere right now. I am too tired from all the evening's activities."
"We won't necessarily leave the pack. We are just going somewhere a bit more, um, suitable for a private welcoming."
Lucea remembers Cassandra's words. She asked her not to give in to his advances if Roderic approaches her. Cassandra knows her boyfriend is useless.
"You can simply tell me I am welcome right here. Is there any need to take me somewhere? What else do you want to do after welcoming me? I know you, Roderic. If you have any crazy ideas in your head about me, you better forget and spend your energy on other things, because you will just be wasting it. I am not interested in guys like you!"
Instead of getting upset, Roderic's smirk continues to play on his handsome face.
"Seems someone knows my name without me telling them, too. And I like your feisty attitude. You should prove to be quite interesting, hopefully in bed too."
He turns around and leaves.
God, he is so irritating. Does he think she asked around to get his name? She heard it by force. She also saw it on the letter asking them back to the pack.
That jerk is the person that asked her parents to come back.
Lucea glares at his tall, dark form as he walks at a steady pace, oozing confidence even in the dark.
Once inside, Lucea makes herself a cup of tea and sits on her bed, ready to start reading.
However, she has barely opened the book when her younger sister budges into her room noisily.
"Lucea, he looked at me! Can you believe that? He actually stared at me for a long time, and I feel like if I had just given him a little encouragement, he would have talked to me!"
Signing inwardly, Lucea places her book beside her.
"Who?" She asks.
"Roderic, of course! I bumped into him just now and he couldn't take his eyes off me!"
"The time he bumped into you, he was just coming from flirting with me. Ruth, I will advise you to forget about Roderic. I am sure there are many boys here who are better than him. Besides, he is too old for you. You are barely fifteen."
The look of ecstasy on Ruth's face is instantly replaced with anger.
"He what? What exactly did he say to you?"
"He told me he wanted to give me a private welcome."
Ruth scoffs. "Just because he said that you think he is interested in you? He was just being nice," she rolls her eyes dramatically. "I should have known you will also fall for him the moment you saw him. I don't like to compete over a guy with my own sister, but I am not giving up on Roderic!" Ruth storms out, not coming back even after Lucea calls her name.
Lucea frowns, her mood for reading ruined. The last thing she needs is to quarrel with her young sister over a guy she doesn't even like.
Her sister is behaving so strangely. Ruth has never been this rude to her before now. All because of Roderic. Well, Lucea will have to make it clear to her sister that she has nothing to worry about when it comes to Roderic.
She hates him even more now.
The next morning, she does her best to keep away from Roderic. She doesn't want anyone standing in the way of a healthy relationship between her and her little sister, whose presence has been the only constant thing in her life.
Mia also gives her an attitude when she tries talking to her. It seems she is still angry with her for agreeing to be Cassandra's friend.
This is worse than she thought.
Lucea decides to leave the both of them alone. She believes they will come round soon, they just need a little time.
She goes alone to explore everything there is to see in the Bright Moon pack.
When she visits the town, she thinks of getting herself a job. She has grown older and her needs increase day by day. If she can find a job as a shop assistant or something of the sort, it would help a great deal.
As she is passing by one of the cafes, she sees a job advertisement on top of the entrance. Excited, she quickly goes in and is welcomed warmly by a waitress.
"You can take a seat at any table, Lucea." Lucea glances at the waitress. She has to get used to hearing her name being called by people she doesn't know, because everyone seems to know her. And it is a good thing that the girl knows her by name. Increases her chance of getting the job.
