Chapter 15
The cluster of dusty dirt spilling out from one of the chiseled brown bags diffused in the air as the train rapidly moved on the frozen steel tracks. The cold wind coming in from the exposed casement windows carried the most of the dirt but the rest trickled down my legs. Jumping back, I curled up in the corner, pulling my knees to my chest and circling my hands around them.
My eyelids collapsed down but I was once again woken up by the loud bang of the door. The fourth time in this small journey my exhausted eyes looked up to see nothing but my wicked mind playing evil tricks with me so I couldn't sleep peacefully. My pounding heart had long stopped burning with agony instead it begged for sleep but these awful blustering noises disturbed my mind completely.
Every time I heard the train stumbling on a rock or the wind fiercely drifting off bound me to peel my eyes open and then look around this spacious part of the train to make sure no one was coming to kill me, however this sole time someone walked inside from the door. I looked up to see no other than Theo.
Sighing in relief, I raised my eyebrows, questioning his unexpected visit. After three hours of sitting alone in this train finally someone came to me. With the help of the shirt, I swiped my dried tears as he walked to me. No one was allowed to see my pain...expect for him.
The train was steadily moving, sometimes it powered up and drove faster but then it slowed down by time.
Pulling out a cold bottle of crystal clear water. "Helen told me to give you this," he said quietly while I wondered what exactly happened to him all of a sudden.
Taking the bottle from his hands, I circled the tap open and immediately started to gobble all the water down my dried throat. Water dribbled down the corners of my mouth but I didn't really mind it because the need for water was desperate.
Drinking all the water in one breath, I closed the bottle and wiped the rest of the water from my lips. Looking up, I saw Theo leaving but then suddenly stopping next to the steel door, he turned around.
"Do you want to eat something?" He asked.
"No, thanks." I smiled, I was hungry but I could survive this hunger for few more hours, at least until I reach my destination. Staring me with shock, his mouth dropped open and his eyebrows knitted together with promising confusion.
"What? You haven't eaten for hours," he said, distress illuminates in his eyes....for me?
"I am fine, I have been without food for countless days, it's completely fine." I replied, a depressing memory of me starving for weeks scattered across my mind.
A concealed concerning look appeared on his face as my words hit him. "What?" He asked again, this time sounding more tensed. "Who are you?"
My empty eyes look back down on the ground, my fingers tighten themselves around my knees, the feeling of scraping my own dirty skin allows my nails to tremble. The burning itch whirled around my lips forces me not to spill a single truth out.
He walked to me and kneel beside me, my heart started to pound faster and faster as knots rose up in my stomach. This unexpected feeling was betraying me from the inside...this pure excitement only breezed in when I was with Erik. The muscles in my fingers cooled down and weakly started to quiver when his hand reach to my hair.
From the past experiences I expected him to violently grip my hair, I closed my eyes and awaited for the usual stinging pain to spread across my scalp but my eyes opened in shock at the awful moment when I felt him pulling a strand of my hair behind my ear gently.
"Did someone hit you?" He questioned, pointing at my mark settled above my cheekbones. Ripping from the sensual feeling, the knots in my stomach immediately untied and I placed my hand over the mark remembering when slaps drizzled down my face.
My body relaxed as I spoke, "I dropped on a bush with sharp leaves-i mean branches." I stuttered, closing my eyes so the water collected around my lids wouldn't dare to fall down on my bruised cheeks. I shouldn't show any weakness....at least not to strangers.
"Oh yea, yeah." He nodded, not believing my lie. He folded his legs and sat next me, his solid muscles tightened when he flexed his arms behind me. Coming closer, I made a small move to jump away but he gripped my upper arm and pulled me back to his chest.
Heaps of sweat trickled down my palms, sucking a huge breath in, something unusual begin to build up my throat. The cold skin of my neck moistened as the lump settled inside my throat increased in mass.
"Speak up, liar or else I'll throw you off the train." He warned.
Speaking soon became difficult for me, I couldn't form words to spill. "Wha-t...do you want?" I stammered, struggling with his hand around my arm as I became more and more uncomfortable.
The once cold atmosphere suddenly went warm and sticky, this time I could feel myself sweating instead of shivering. The hidden truth was clearly displayed in my eyes and looking at him was the worst things I could do right now.
"Who are you? And what were you doing in that forest, in the middle of the night." He questioned. I opened my mouth to speak but when a cold knife was placed on the base of my neck I instantly slapped my lips close.
"No lies," he added.
I couldn't run from this horrible situation neither I could say the truth. "I was just walking," I cried out, his face went expressionless as he looked at me with confusion.
"What? For god sake stop acting like a baby." he said.
"Okay, okay I'll tell everything. First please remove this from my throat," I stated, putting my hands up and waiting for this harmful object to slip away. He was bound to rip the truth out from me but I wasn't that fragile to be broken by someone random. Watching him move the blade away from me, I let out a cheerful laugh inside my soul...which started to take a wrong turn.
"So basically you see, my aunt loves to visit places and take pictures and all. I came with her over here a month ago and it was all going well until something really bad happened as she died. Everyone suspected that I was the killer so they put me in a dungeon and they didn't let me out but I ran away." I lied.
