Mira raised her hands while breathing heavily. She saw Kimberly being held by a man with Anthony, silently crying. Mira smiled at her.
"What do you want?" Mira asked. The woman pointed a gun at her.
"All of your belongings. Give it to us," she demanded. Mira slowly stood up, but the woman suddenly stopped.
"Wait!" she said. "Take them where I can see your hands. I don't trust you," she added. Mira carefully took off her bag and katana and gently put them in the bag. She raised her hands again while the woman grabbed her things.
"Okay, we're good now, Mike!" she yelled. The man pushed Kimberly and Anthony to the ground. Mita immediately rushed to them.
"It's okay...ssshhhh," Mira said, rubbing Kimberly's back.
"What do we do with them?" the woman asked.
"What else? Chase them out of the house," Mike responded coldly. Mira's eyes widened in shock.
"You can't do that! There are still some out there!" Kimberly said. "Please," she added. The woman stared at them briefly before looking away.
"Let them stay for the day," Mira said. "I'll go out of your house instead," she added. Anthony was crying while holding her hand; the same was true of Kimberly. Mike snickered and pulled her hair.
"Fine, because I like your bravery," he said.
"M-Mir! You can't," Kimberly whispered while tugging on her shirt.
"B-Big sister…"
"It's okay. I'm going to be alright," Mira said, hugging them. She stood and glared at the two.
"Lexie, come on. Let her out," Mike said. Lexie looked at her. The girl seemed compelled to take any action in order to survive. Mira walked proudly. When Lexie opened the door, Mike pushed her out. Mira looked around, and the lurkers were wandering. She tiptoed and grabbed a wooden plank she had found.
Something suddenly appeared in her path. It rings loudly, catching the lurker's attention. Mira cursed and immediately turned the phone off. When she looked back, she saw Mike grinning evilly at the window. He was planning on killing her by feeding her to the lurkers, and Mira can't let that happen. The lurkers started running in her direction. Mira hurriedly ran away.
"s**t!" she cursed as one of the lurkers jumped at her. Good thing she immediately dodges and hits it with a wooden plank she brought with her. She entered a mini-store and barricaded the door. The lurkers banged at the door while Mira slumped on the ground, catching her breath after running.
Hraaaar...Hraaaar…
Mira almost leapt out of shock when she saw the old lurker approaching her. The lurkers outside stopped banging on the door. She grabbed the screwdriver lying around and killed the lurker as quietly as possible. She looked around and heaved a sigh of relief, seeing that the store was free of a lurker. Mira fixed her clothes and searched for bags she could put the supplies into. She needed to get Kimberly and Anthony as soon as possible.
Kimberly hugged Anthony. The poor boy was still crying after Mira went out of the house. She was clearly being pursued by the lurkers. It almost made Kimberly's heart drop, but she trusts Mira. She's safe, and she'll return to get them. That was her promise.
"Don't cry, Anthony. She'll come back to us," Kimberly said as she comforted the kid in her arms.
"How do you know that?" Lexie inquired and crossed her arms. "Those monsters already ate her," she added.
"I just knew. My sister won't leave me because she promised," Kimberly said. Lexie scoffs and puts the biscuits and bottled water in front of them.
"I heard that promise too, but looked where I am now," she said. "I'm stuck in this wretched place with a man I barely know using my body to survive," Lexie muttered, and she wiped the tears that left her eyes with haste.
"Lexie!" Mike called. Lexie walked outside and locked the door.
"Is what she was saying true, big sister? That big sister Mira won't come back," Anthony asked.
"No. Mira promised me. We will wait for her," she added. Before Mira left, she said something to Kimberly. Mira knew Mike was planning something and only waited for her to leave.
"Mira said she'd be back tomorrow for us," Kimberly whispered. She hugged Anthony and prayed for Mira's safety.
"What did you give those two!?" Mike said so and pulled Lexie's hair. Lexie's face contorted in pain as she tried to take Mike's hand away from her.
"F-food and water," she whispered.
"F*cking b*tch! That was our food!" Mike whispered, yelled, and pushed Lexie where her body hit the wall. "Because you gave them the food, you won't eat today! F*cking i***t," he added, and he kicked her before making his way upstairs. Lexie hugged her knees and silently cried. She wiped her tears and went back to where Kimberly and Anthony were. Lexie opened the door, which surprised the two.
"Do you really think that woman survived?" she asked.
"Yes, I told you Mira wouldn't leave us. She will come back for us," Kimberly said while she hugged Anthony, afraid of what Lexie might do to them.
"Then I have a favor to ask," Lexie said. "I will help you, but please, help me escape this hell," she added while playing with her trembling hands. If Kimberly's statement was true, then the woman who left was her only hope.
"Don't worry, she will come and get us out of here," Kimberly said, touching her hand. She could see the fear and sincerity in the woman's eyes.
"Thank you," Lexie whispered as her tears streamed down her face.
After an hour of searching, Mirabella found a bag on the employee's quarter located at the store's back. The sun has already set. She emptied the bag and put all the essentials she could find inside, from food to water and medicines. The good news was that the gangsters had not yet thoroughly pillaged the store.
When she finished, Mira closed the bag and sat on the side as she started eating a sandwich while thinking of getting Kimberly and Anthony safely.
