Chapter one
*flashback* “ Mom! What is happening? Mom talk to me! Mom! Nurse!! Doctor!!” She wailed looking at her mom choking and desperately gasping for air. She felt a drafty breeze hit her in the face as the nurses opened the door to her mother’s room and rushed to fiddle with the many machines and tubes she was attached to. Her mom lifted her frail hands to her face still gasping and longing for oxygen she had a tender look in her eyes “Remember what we discussed Bella. Promise me you will look for him. Promise me, Bella.” Her mom demanded weakly She was already shaking her head. She had no intention of looking for a man who didn't care about her. A man who believed money was everything. But mom wasn't taking no for an answer she knew how stubborn her daughter could be not everyone saw that side of her. Most thought her timid. “Promise. . me Isabella, this. . is my. . very last wish . . .promise me!” She said weakly in between gasps Determined to right the wrongs of her past before she breathed her last. Isabella couldn't bear her mom suffering like this she just wanted her to get better “ I promise you, mom. I'll go look for him. I'll do it for you I promise Now please stop trying to talk so they can put on the oxygen mask and you can breathe easily” Her mom shook her head smiling weakly, Her frail hands fell by her sides when she looked at Isabella and gasped loudly before going limp and eerily still. “Mom? Mom? Mom!! Noooo!!!! Doctor?! Nooooooo!!!!!!” *end of flashback* “ Miss, miss, miss!” Isabella opened her eyes to find the driver looking at her worriedly “ Are you okay miss? You were screaming” Oh God, she had the dream again. This was the same dream that had been plaguing her for months. But it wasn't a dream tho. Her mom was gone. “I'm sorry. Bad dream. We can go now. I'm fine I promise” Isabella replied noticing that the driver parked to check on her. “I hope you are looking down and seeing this Mom, I’m doing it for you,” she said under her breath chuckling sadly. She looked out the window, rolling trees and mountain peaks she could see in the distance, breathing in the clean countryside air. She didn't need anyone to tell her that this was a haven for the posh and rich. And the man she set out to find could be one of them. That thought made her smile. It would certainly explain a lot like how her mother (who was a small-town florist) got the money to send her to the university and to do her Masters. When she went to the university that was the only time she left home and she always went back every holiday or school break. She did very well in school but she never got to use that degree. She wanted to study landscaping and horticulture which was something she was passionate about but her mother said she should study business. She didn't explain why, just that she might need it in the future and it's always better to be prepared. And also the money that was deposited into her account every month like clockwork since she turned eighteen. It was a sizable sum now but she has never spent a dime of it. Her mother made sure she wasn't spoiled and entitled. She was just a small-town girl she enjoyed the simple things of life. She looked up and saw the driver giving her a small smile from the front seat. She looked away shyly, she wasn’t comfortable with men’s attention. “We are here Miss,” the driver said quietly, getting down from the cab to help with her luggage. “Do you need me to help you take your suitcase in?” he asked nicely. “Oh no, thank you” she replied giving the driver a reassuring smile. The air was so crispy like it just rained. The leaves on the trees were still dewy. There was just something about a rainy day that made her happy. She took a lungful of air and exhaled loudly through her mouth. She hastily got out her purse to pay him “Here, please keep the change”. He took the money from her and smiled gratefully “Thank you ma'am and good luck” he said speeding away from the cobblestones. Luck? She was going to need it for sure. She looked up at the giant gates and swallowed. Could she do this? He never looked for her or tried to meet her. She held on tightly to her suitcase and handbag. She wasn't sure she could go through with this. Is it too late to turn back? She looked back to check for the cab and Yep! It's too late now, the cab was already out of sight leaving dust and gravel in its wake. She swallowed again. Her palms were already sweaty. They get that way when she is nervous and right now she was very nervous. She rubbed her palms on her linen skirt vigorously, gave herself a light shake, and nodded her head “You can do this Isabella” she assured herself shakingly gently running her hands through her blonde curls. On shaky legs, she pressed the buzzer and crossed her fingers. “Who is that?” She jumped a little with her hand on her chest when she heard the loud booming voice that she realized was coming from the speaker near the buzzer. It took her a few seconds to compose herself “ I am Isabella Ruiz, I. . .” She stated pensively but was cut off before she could say more. “ Come on in. It's just straight ahead” The voice replied sounding a little short. Come on in? The gates creaked open and she stepped through them a little bit scared. What if in her quest to find her mystery man she gets murdered? That would be a funny story for the tabloids. What if he has relocated? What if. . . ‘I'm going to give myself a brain bleed with all these what-ifs. I'm here already, let's see this through” she said to herself encouragingly. Walking briskly to the door. For a house this big. No, not a house this was a mansion Isabella thought to herself as she looked at the large enchanting edifice in front of her. Stunning was an understatement. She couldn't wait to see the inside. Large trees and beautiful flowers surrounded the house from every corner. The gardener was doing a great job although the roses need pruning. She thought smiling to herself. Isabella couldn't help but imagine how it would have been growing up in this mansion. Tending to the flowers and running through every room in the house. She looked around again and thought about the obvious absence of help which she considered unusual for a house this big. She didn’t even see the driver or any security personnel. If not for the voice over the speaker she would have thought the place uninhabited. Although it was well kept. Someone put their heart into tending to the place. She got to the door. Took a deep breath and was about to knock when the door opened from the other side revealing who she could only refer to as an angel. This man was so tall, with piercing icy blue eyes, a broad chest, sinewy muscles, and a firm jawline. He just had to be a descendant of the Greek gods. The angel's lips were moving but she couldn't register what he was saying. She looked into his eyes again he looked pissed and that certainly wasn't the voice of an angel. She quickly looked away shook herself out of her reverie and heard words she couldn't make any sense of. “Are you the maid that the agency sent? I thought they said they didn't have any more to send to me. Hello? Are you the maid?” He asked impatiently looking a little ticked off. Maid? What in the world was he talking about? Did she get the wrong house? What is going on?
