Dancing and victory, expensive bottles of wine, cheery laughter and triumphant shouts.
All of these were interrupted by jealousy.
Jealousy and a misplaced bottle of wine.
Chaos erupted in the crowd and swords were drawn, prepared to slaughter the one that deems it fit to disrespect the Pharaoh and god.
But what do you think happened before all of this?
Prologue
Ancient Egypt, 1600 B.C
There was tension in the air.
Princes Jendayi shut her eyes and drew her hands to her stomach, hoping to calm down the terrible churn she felt.
It was sickening and worst, it was beginning to clutch at her heart.
She inhaled once and tried to exhale heavily, hoping the burden in her chest will be lifted but to no avail.
Something was wrong.
Something was definitely wrong.
Jendayi felt a light tap on her shoulder that caused her to almost fly off.
When she recovered, her servant girl Layla was staring back at her with worrisome eyes.
“I’m sorry Princess,” she said, her eyebrows furrowing with discomfort.
She fidgeted with her Shenti and pressed her trembling lips together as she addressed her mistress.
“But you have been standing on the Balcony for far too long now. The Sun is far gone and you will catch a cold because of the night’s air.”
Jendayi ignored her Servant girl and turned back to look at the glory of Lower Egypt, Memphis.
Something was about to go wrong.
In fact, something had already gone wrong.
But more chaos was about to happen. Calamity was about to fall upon this place!
“Princess please, come with me. Your father made me promise him on his death bed that I would take care of you” Layla urged her mistress.
Filled with spontaneous rage, Jendayi turned back towards her with a glare.
“My father knew nothing about me! He got me betrothed to a beast which is why we are all in this mess in the first place!” She cried out.
Tears rushed into her eyes as soon as all those words were out of her mouth.
She sunk to the green marble floor slowly and her beautiful emerald dress spread out around her.
So beautiful but yet, so unlucky.
She was an orphan and only child and now this, this was happening to her.
She fisted the linen in her hands and wept bitterly, shaking her head over and over again.
Her father was a fool to think Upper and Lower Egypt were going to reunite just like that.
Upper Egypt was filled with hellacious beings called werewolves who lusted after blood than they did after women.
How they infiltrated Egypt she didn’t know but what she knew was that as soon as they came in around 2,000 BC they started to pair with humans and reproduce more of their kind.
The werewolf blood strengthened them and turned them into the best men at battle, at field and everywhere else.
Lower Egypt had refused to accept any of those half demons and this caused the huge divide between Lower And Upper Egypt even though they had unified a thousand years ago.
All of Pharoah Nemer’s work was put to waste because of those strange beings.
He had worked hard to unify the parts of Egypt and although he had succeeded, every part had their separate regalia.
Even the god of Egypt, the one that ruled Upper Egypt was said to have the wolf form in him.
And that god was Amsety, Son of Horus.
It was rumored that when all his brothers were killed the only thing that saved him from death was the fact he had that animal strength.
But many other people believe Amsety could not control his wolf and killed his own brothers because his wolf was a Lycan Superior and wanted to rule Egypt alone.
And Jendayi believed that he killed his brothers.
Because he was so ruthless and cruel.
Jendayi didn’t want to marry him. Memphis forbid that she be wedded to him!
Pharaoh Amsety loved only himself and no one else.
Jendayi seemed like only a conquest to him and an added bonus.
If she married him, she will satisfy his power lust and make the werewolves become rulers over Egypt in every way.
Her father was foolish enough to not see that he only wanted more power by marrying her.
In her father’s mind, he was a peacemaker that wanted to unify Egypt.
But as far as she was concerned, he was a fool.
A fool who couldn’t see she was going to have a mate.
Annumalik, fourth and youngest king in Babylon.
He was such a beautiful man.
And sadly, a sworn enemy to Amsety.
What was she going to do with such a stupid love triangle?
Even though Amsety sure didn’t love her?
“Princess calm down. Everything is going to be fine” Layla whispered, cradling Jendayi’s head.
How she got there, she didn’t know.
“It’s not going to be fine. Amsety knows about my relationship with Annumalik. Why do you think there’s a war?” She wailed.
“Your King will find a way. He always will” Layla continued to encourage Jendayi.
But that all fell on deaf ears.
Jendayi knew that before the end of the day, something bad was going to happen.
Just as she rose her head up from Layla’s smaller hands, there was a loud knock on the door.
The time had already come.
Jendayi wiped her tears with the back of her hands and rose to her feet slowly.
She was a healer so she could revive her Pale face.
Luckily for her she hadn’t gone out of her chambers all day so she didn’t see the need to wear make up.
“Guards let them through” Jendayi instructed, entering her inner chambers.
Her stomach began to churn again but she paid it no heed as her chamber doors flew open.
It was the Messenger from Babylon.
There was blood splattered over his face and armor and he was holding his side that seemed to be oozing with blood.
The healer instincts in the Princess kicked in and she flew to him worriedly, holding his shoulders.
He was a short man so it was not hard to hold him up.
“Albisin” she looked at him worriedly.
“What happened? Is my King Annumalik okay? What about you? Come sit down, let me treat that wound” she panicked.
“I’m only a servant Princess,” he shook his head with a groan.
“Don’t waste your time on me. J-just let me relay the message. My time is coming soon” he panted heavily.
Tears were already forming in Jendayi’s eyes as she held him.
“Okay, tell me. What happened in the battle ground?” Jendayi asked.
“King Annu is dead. Killed and beheaded by Pharaoh Amsety’s sword. An army of a thousand soldiers and wolves are headed here now. You need to run P-Princess”
Jendayi didn’t say a single word.
She simply let go of The Messenger with no word.
She should have screamed or shouted or done something.
But there were no tears left to cry.
She had already seen this coming from the onset.
She blinked when she heard the sound of a body drop to the floor.
The Messenger.
“Come now Princess! You heard him there’s no time left to fret!” Layla urged her, tugging on her arm.
Jendayi nodded her head absentmindedly and staggered towards the secret passage with her maid.
Her life had crumbled before her eyes.
Annu, her love- he was dead.
Killed by Amsety’s sword.
Jendayi gritted her teeth and fisted her small hands.
Her ears perked up as she heard the sound of chariots racing, horse neighing and most likely Amsety’s soldiers shouting, probably thinking they had victory before they lay waste of Lower Egypt.
What was the point of preserving her life when her people were going to die under That ruthless Amsety?
“Haste Princess! If they find out we are escaping now we won’t make it past the sewers” Her servant girl urged.
Jendayi turned towards her nonchalantly, her eyes dim and soulless.
Annu was dead.
He was never going to kiss her raven dark hair and praise her beauty.
He was never going to call her beautiful and turn the tip of her ears red from his incessant pinching and teasing.
“Princess please we have to go-“
“Annu is dead” she shook her head, eyes unfocused as she looked around.
She felt as though she was about to lose her mind.
“Yes he is but you need to stay alive!” Layla cried and shook Jendayi’s shoulders so hard she felt dizzy.
“My earring” Jendayi muttered, pointing to the dark passage way.
“What about it?” Layla urged her.
“It’s missing. Find it please. I-it was my mother’s. I need to find it” She continued.
Layla furrowed her eyebrows and stepped into the secret passage way.
Then Jendayi did the unthinkable.
She hastily pushed the door close so that Her servant girl was locked in the passageway.
Her ears were perfectly deaf to her Slave’s cry.
Luckily, the door was a one way and that was only through The Princess’s chamber meaning Layla could not get out.
An eery calm began to set over The Princess as she raced to her balcony.
If she did this, she would be free.
But she had to be hasty because her guards were chasing after her.
She had to outrun them because she needed to be with her Annu.
She had a few gold jewelry pieces on her that will buy her a place in the after life.
Maybe Anubis would be kind enough to let her walk with her Annu so they could be judged.
As soon as the cold air hit her she ran faster to the edge of the balcony.
“Princess no!” They tried to persuade her as they saw her climb over the bamboo.
But with one foot hoisted up, she turned back towards them and spat fire at the guards with her eyes.
“Amsety took everything from me! Let me be happy!” She screamed at them.
They tried to race after her but it was to no avail.
Jendayi had jumped.
And oddly, she didn’t feel at peace as the violent wind whipped around her body.
Sure she didn’t regret jumping off the balcony, but there was something nudging her heart.
Pharaoh Amsety.
He wasn’t going to let her die a peaceful death.
Because her heart was boiling with immense hate and anger for him.
Just before she hit the ground, Jendayi opened her patched lips and spoke, her emotions so heavy that her vision was blurred by her tears.
“It’s definitely not in this life but perhaps it will be the next, or the next after that, but surely, I’ll make you Pay Pharaoh Amsety”
Then everything went black.
