"No daddy, no! You don't know anything!" Carol stomps her foot, glaring at Jay who is glaring back at her. Why is he behaving like he has a stick up his ass today?
"Carol behave yourself.. " He warns.
Carol calms down but looks upset. I go pick her up.
"Daddy knows a lot of things but definitely not this. You're right, Unicorns are for real. I have seen them." I whisper.
Her eyes light up instantly. "Really daddy?! Where???"
"Don't lie to her. The idea of unicorns probably originated from carvings that drew two horned animals in profiles like oryx. In medieval times the idea of a horse with a horn really took hold and that is where the modern image of a unicorn comes from." Jay mutters.
We all stare at him in disbelief. Someone has suddenly got weird What's the matter with him? Is he mad at Carol? She didn't do anything of late? Is it something at work? He is definitely not himself.
"Girls, why don't you go and color a picture for me? Huh?" I tell the girls after Ana looks like she is getting scared of Jay and Carol looks downright annoyed. They take their colors and coloring books and settle in the living room.
"What's the matter with you today? They are little! I can't believe you were trying to mansplain them that Unicorns aren't real."
He just sits there staring at me like he is seeing me for the first time.
My husband, ladies, and gentlemen.
That's my frustratingly lovable yet an arse of a husband that I mostly don't know what to do with or without.
"Did something happen at work?" I ask.
"No"
"Are you sure? You look... like you're in a bad mood."
"I told you nothing happened!" He shouts and goes upstairs to our bedroom.
Should I be concerned? Or would I be overreacting? A person after all cannot be expected to be in a good mood all the time, right?
I will tuck the girls for the night and then see if I can do something to cheer my husband up! :)
