1-Brooklyn
1- Brooklyn POV
I found my mate, and he is gorgeous. Standing over 6'6, broad, thick shoulders, a bushy dark brown beard and blue eyes that sparkled in the sun, I could hardly believe my fortune. Unfortunately for me, I was also a lowly omega and he...well, he was the Lycan King. He smelled delicious, like cinnamon and vanilla, a hint of evergreen mixed in there. Instantly my body started reacting to his presence, straining to be near to him, but I simply wouldn't allow it. He could have my head, or worse...the mate bond would be unrequited and I'd be left to wallow in misery. My wolf, Athena was howling in my head, her excitement palpable, pushing my need to get closer to him...even if just for a moment.
Carrying the tray of wine towards the Alphas table, my nerves grew, palms growing sweaty and my step faltered. With a loud crash the wine bottle shattered on the floor, sending sharp shards flying through the air. My mate turned and looked at me, an amused glint in his eye as he stared curiously. I felt my cheeks flame with deep embarrassment and quickly hung my head.
"Sorry, Alpha Stone. Sir." I nodded at the stranger, not daring to lift my eyes to his. I could already feel my arousal growing between my legs by breathing in his unique scent. Surely he feels this too?
Alpha Stone tried to contain his anger at my clumsy faltering, but I could see it seething right at the surface. His normally green eyes flickering dangerously between the black of his wolf and the calm of his green.
"Pick it up, Brooke." He hissed at me, his chair scraping against the floor as he made his way towards me. "I'm so sorry King Thorne, she's not usually this clumsy. Must have been something she ate." He stared at me, frozen in place. I was afraid to move, but knew if I didn't, my punishment would be far worse later.
"Yes Master." Eyes downcast, I started picking up each shard by hand, trying to ignore the stinging as the pieces cut into my skin.
King Thorne cleared his throat, causing me to gasp and cut a deep gash into my palm. s**t. "Alpha Stone, don't you think your omega is entitled to workplace safety? Shouldn't she be allowed to get gloves, or dare I say, a broom?"
Stone stared at me in anger as my blood slowly dripped down my hand, making a small pool at my feet. Gritting his teeth, he complied. "Go get a broom for God's sake Brooklyn. And clean up your hand, you're dripping on the marble."
I made the mistake of looking up at him in defiance, just in time to catch the fire simmering in his eyes. A sharp c***k and he back handed me, sending me sprawling across the floor. I heard King Thornes chair scrape across the floor as he got up, presumably to my aid.
"Don't bother, my King. She's just a lowly omega. Worth nothing more then a penny on the black market and even less in my castle. Clearly she's incompetent, can't you tell?"
Getting up from where I'd fallen, I gazed straight into his eyes. I was ready to throw down, but my breath caught in my throat at the blue eyes peering at me from behind Alpha Stone. The King was looking at me with such compassion, I thought he was about to weep. As quickly as the look crossed his face, it was gone. He nodded at the Alpha and took his seat, but not before I saw the muscles in his neck bulge with tension.
Maybe King Thorne felt the pull, too. It wouldn't matter though, no one of high rank ever takes an omega as a mate. I'm not sure why the Moon Goddess sees us as such useless wolves but it's already pretty unheard of that omegas are even given mates. Most of the focus has always been on continuing strong bloodlines for Alphas, betas and gammas...that leaves us omegas as after thoughts. We usually just get promptly rejected and our mates hope for someone better to come along. My station as an omega makes it so I'm literally a slave in the Alphas castle. It's an awful life, but if he's to be believed, Alpha Stone saved me from a worse fate.
My parents apparently owed a huge debt and they were about to sell me into a life of s*x s*****y and he saw me, taking pity on me, he saved my life. Of course, it's unverifiable given the fact I was barely one years old and I've never heard from or about my parents since. I'd always been taught to be grateful for my station in life as it could have been much, much worse.
In fact, whenever I had it in my head that I was destined for greatness, the Alpha would pull me out of my thoughts, reminding me I owed him my life. I consoled myself with the fact that I had been able to hide my physical training from him for as long as I have. Ever since I turned 16, I saw the lustful gazes he threw my way and asked some of the omega boys to teach me self defense. We ended up creating what we call "The Midnight Fight Club", where we met in the omega quarters at midnight every night and trained for two hours. Most of them had no idea what they were doing, but a few were incredible fighters. So, for the last 8 years, I'd been preparing for the day Alpha Stone tried anything untoward. Thus far, he had only undressed me with his eyes and thrown lewd innuendos at me when no one was listening.
I'd heard snippets that the Alpha had taken pride in destroying and dismantling all of the smaller packs in the area. The omegas told me that many of the men who joined us were once betas and gammas who had the choice of s*****y or death. It was rare an Alpha chose the life of an omega, or that Stone would let them. Most were dispatched after he defeated them. The omega chef, Lillian, told me that once upon a time, Stone had a mate, but he cruelly rejected her after she bore him no children. She said his mate went mad, throwing herself into the pit to die of starvation. It was only long after they found her body that the doctors discovered she had been pregnant many times, but poisoned each child so they never developed. Or so the tale went...the one he wanted us to believe. An unhinged woman, desperate to get away.
I shook my head sadly, remembering the tale. What kind of a monster was Alpha Stone that his own wife would have rather suffered loss after loss then bare a child for him? He never found a second chance mate, but he did use and abuse whichever she-wolves he fancied. I just worried I would be next.
"Hello? Brooke!" Alpha Stone barked at me. "Get your ass out here and CLEAN THIS MESS."
His voice intruded on my thoughts as I sighed and finished wrapping my hand. My arousal had finally dimmed to a dull thud and I planned on keeping it to myself. I just needed to distract myself when I went back in there.
"Yes, sir, I am so sorry, I'm coming right away." I faked the apologetic tone as my face betrayed me.
Walking back into the dining hall with a fresh bottle of wine and a broom, I served the men with a flourish.
"My Lord's." I said with a deep curtsy. Thorne snorted and I looked up with a smirk, Stones face was beet red and I knew I would be paying for my insolence later. It was definitely worth it to see my gorgeous mate smiling at me.
My heart started beating a thousand miles a minute as he refused to break our gaze. Whether subconscious or not, the way he licked his bottom lip and sucked it in sent my wolf into overdrive. I blushed but refused to break eye contact first, giving him a nod and a small wink instead. Lets see how much he feels this pull.
Just as he was about to get out of his chair, Stones voice cut the tension like a knife.
"King Thorne," the ice was apparent as he tried to regain focus, "this omega has wasted enough of our time. If we could get back to business, I'd greatly appreciate it. I have a full day and this is just prolonging the necessary."
"Ah, yes, of course Alpha Stone." Thorne winked at me and just like that I was a mess again. "Let's get back to discussing why you're attacking the nation's protected by my castle and my guard."
I noticed Stone swallow harshly, his protruding Adam's apple bobbing up and down furiously, reminding me of a fish. His face lost all traces of red and he just stared at Thorne. King Thorne on the other hand, was calm and collected, twirling the wine in his glass like a conissuer. I stifled a giggle. It was rare to see a man like Stone silenced by anyone.
He turned to me, his lips in a thin line.
"You may go, Brooke." He nodded.
"But sir, I haven't finished cleaning up the-" I really wanted to see this play out, but I was more curious about this mate of mine.
"I SAID, you may go." He was trying to regain control.
I nodded and with another curtsy, left the dining hall. I could have sworn I heard a chuckle follow me out.
Catching my breath and slowing my beating heart, I leaned against the kitchen counter, rapidly fanning my face. If that's truly my mate, I think he must feel the pull too, otherwise why did it feel like he was curious about me?
Because he is
[Dear God Athena, you startled me]
Sorry girlfriend, but he's definitely into us. We should find him after this meeting and ravage his body...let's just use him before he has a chance to reject us.
[Oh my god, I can't believe you, you horn dog. We can't just assault a lycan, let alone a Lycan King! What if he kills us, or worse! What if he turns us into Stone, then we're really going to be in for it!]
He won't, I promise, just go up to him and grab his -
[Oh be quiet!]
She laughed and retreated to the back of my head, her watchful eyes curious of what might happen.
Sufficiently calmed, I was about to exit the kitchen and head to my quarters when a large set of arms grabbed my waist.
"And where do you think you're going?"

I hope you enjoy this first chapter! It's my first time trying to make a wolf romance novel so I'm doing my best to keep it interesting! I'm hoping to update this daily, but if I miss a day here and there please know I haven't forgotten! I'm looking forward to seeing how Brooke and Thornes mate bond works out and if he ends up rejecting her. Alpha Stone sounds like a jackass though, wouldn't you say?
