Chapter 6 ( Hands Off )

2006 Words
-Laurent POV- The Fighting arena was huge. This place was bigger than I expected it to be. "Alright, take a fighting stick." Violet pointed to the sticks leaning against the wall. They were smooth and sleek to the touch and lightweight in your hands. She started to twirl her stick effortlessly in her hand. "Now. Try and hit me." I looked her up and down. "Your joking, right?" I asked. She was tall, but she still had a smaller frame. I could break her if I tried hard enough. "Uh, I would rather-" Whap.  A stringing sensation run up my left side. Violet had struck me hard. "No more talking. Fight me." She said as she aimed her stick at me. I cracked my neck. Now I was ready to fight. She tried to strike me again, but I dodged it and swung my stick right into the bends of her knees, and she fell to the ground. I stood over her, smirking. "Don't underestimate me." Violet got back up again.  "Oh, I wasn't. I was going easy on you. Now that I know you can actually fight, I'm going all out." She half-smiled. We fought for a while. She definitely tired me out a little. For a human, she had a good amount of stamina."Alright, I guess you are good enough. Be ready for another session tomorrow." She said as she walked out. I put the sticks back and stretched. The shift always took a toll on my body. It left a burning sensation all over. My throat was burning...I'd forgotten how long it had been since I fed. The guards usually gave me jugs of blood. Even though I had no idea where they came from, I had no idea how I would get it here. (Hunt.) I pinched my eyes closed as I heard the echo of the voice in my head. "No," I said to myself through my teeth. I will not hurt an innocent person ever again. (Either you do it, Or I WILL.) My head started to pound. He was trying to coax me into giving in. I looked into the mirror on the wall of the fighting area. The whites of my eyes were now red. I'd never felt this hungry in my life. I tried to ignore it, but it only got worse. Finally, I walked out of the fighting area. I had to find an animal or something to quench my thirst. I made my way down the hall where Nila had been. Maybe she could help me. "Hey, new guy." I stopped in my tracks. "I don't think I caught your name," I remembered that voice. "It's Laurent," I said through my teeth. I really didn't want to be around anyone while I felt like this.   "You alright, buddy?" He slapped his hand against my shoulder. "I need...blood," I said again through my teeth.  "Come with me." He said as I turned around. I realized it was the guy named Knox. I suddenly felt a flicker of heat rise up from my chest. I balled my fists. I don't know why he made me feel this way, but I felt like ripping his head off... (She's Mine.) The voice in my head growled. "God, just shut up!" I yelled. Knox's eyebrows furrowed, and he backed away from me. ( Good boy.)  I rolled my eyes. "Sorry." I rubbed the back of my neck. He probably thought I was crazy... "Uh-huh. Come with me." He said as he started walking. I quickly followed him. He leads me to the kitchen and through a door that leads into a garage. "We stocked this just in case this happened." He lifted the freezer lid to reveal blood packs. I felt my mouth start to water. "I figured you would need more than just ordinary food. Don't go crazy, though. We go through a blood bank, and I don't need them getting into our business. So try to keep indulging to a minimum until we figure something else out."  I nodded, but my eyes were glued to the blood packs. "Come find me after your done," Knox said as he left the room. He kept looking at me as he walked out, walking backward. I reached for the blood sack, pierced it, and started to chug it down, but once I took the first chug, I spit it out. "Ugh." It tasted foul. This wasn't going to satisfy my hunger. I needed to get out of here and find a need blood source. So I started to roam the house in search of the front door or a way out. I found it near the fighting area, and it was unlocked. You would think of thought they would have locked it, but at this point, I didn't care. I had free range to look for my own blood source now. Once I opened the door, colorful blinking lights blinded my eyes. As my eye's adjusted, I could see neon signs and a rush of people passing by on the sidewalk. The heavy coppery and fragrant cooking aromas mixed in a unique way I've never smelled before. I turned around to look at the building I had come out of. It was inches apart from other buildings. It was all white with blue trimming and two stories high. It looked much smaller than the inside really was, but how was that possible? I stumbled backward in the crowd of people. "Hey!" I had bumped into an older man with a cane. "Watch where you're going. People are walking here!" He said in a croaky voice. He pushed past me, using his can for leverage. My head was spinning; I could pick up on people's heartbeats. Some were strong, and others were faint, but I could still hear them. The rush of blood made my fangs ache. I couldn't be out here, where ever here was. I ran back inside and slammed the door shut. "s**t," I said under my breath. I couldn't go outside like this... Ding. Dong. I flinched away from the door. "I'll get it!" I heard Nila's musical voice say as she pranced to the door. "Oh, hey! I ordered Chinese food. Want some?" Her fruity scent overwhelmed my senses and made my fangs ache. Without thinking, I grabbed her wrist to pull her close to me. I licked my lips, thinking of how good her warm fruity blood would feel going down my throat. "Laurent?" Nila's eye's looked up at me in an innocent gleam. I suddenly felt my chest tighten. I dropped her wrist as I backed away from her.  "Hey, what's wrong?" Nila drew closer to me. "No." I snapped. "Stay away from me. I don't want to hurt you."  Nila's face softened. "You need blood, don't you?" I looked up at her and lowered my head. I didn't want to say it. Nila came closer to me. She put her hand against my cheek. "Why do you do this to yourself?" Her voice was heavy with pity. I grabbed her hand and removed it from my cheek. "You don't understand." My voice began to crack. "I've tried so hard to deal with this darkness inside myself. Every day of my life, I've been battling myself. Do you have any idea what that's like? I've pushed that part of me back so far it's made its own presence inside myself." I felt the burning in my throat intensify. I fell to my knees, grabbing my throat, trying to bear through the pain. Nila leaned down to me. "You're not gonna let yourself starve." She said as she pulled a blade from under her skirt. A rush of adrenaline shot through me. I slapped the knife out of her hands. She looked at me with her eyes widened.  "I will not take blood from you," I said in a deep growl. If I took blood from her, I'd end up craving her, and I didn't want that. Not when she was around me so much.  "Laurent, you're just a dumb ass now." She said, reaching for the knife I slapped away. "You can't keep doing this if it's something you need to survive." "I said-" Nila cut her finger, and all my restraints against the pull of the blood went out the window. I was tired of the burning and wanted relief so bad... She put her finger in front of my face. I could smell its fruity intoxicating scent and could almost taste it on my tongue. She was on her knees now and scooted closer to me. "You won't hurt me." Her eyes held such confidence in me as they beamed up at me. I wish she didn't because I wasn't too sure I trusted myself around her. For some reason, she had gotten under my skin from that first night I blacked out.  Her finger pressed against my lips. Her warm thick blood coated my lips. As I licked them, my eyes rolled in the back of my head from the taste of her, but I made my hungry worse. I felt something within me change, and I lunged for her. Nila screamed as I pressed her against the floor. My fangs extracted as I held her down. She stopped screaming and started to giggle. I stopped for a second, just looking down at her. She wasn't scared of me? I suddenly felt someone kick me hard on my side. My breath felt like it left me upon impact, and I fell to the floor beside Nila. "Knox! What the hell are you doing!"  I heard Nila scream."Stop!" Another hard kick landed in my chest. Pain radiated down my abdomen as my muscles tightened. "You son of a b***h! I never should of let you in here! I should of let you die in that cage." His voice was like venom. "Knox, knock it off!" No more kicks landed. I looked up to see Nila standing in front of me.  "Get out of the way." Knox's face was masked in red as the muscle under his eye twitched. His chest was pumping up and down. His muscles looked like they were budging. "No." Nila tried to stand tall even with her short stature. She raised her head high to him. "Knock it off. He wasn't hurting me." He took two strides up to her and got in her face." He was going to suck you dry, Nila!" his voice sounded dangerous. He looked like he was starting to fume all over. Now that I looked closer, it was smoke coming from him. He then looked me dead in the eyes. "I will singe you if you lay a hand on her. She's mine." He growled. "I am nobody! And I'm definitely not yours. So back up!" "Why are you protecting him? You barely know him!" Knox asked as he got closer to her. He then grabbed Nila's face in both his hands and rammed his lips against hers in a rough possessive kiss. She pushed away from him, wiping her lips off on her arm.  "Get away from me." She hissed at him, and I could see the hurt in her voice. "How dare you think I'm property to be owned." She said as she pushed him aside and ran past him. "Nila, wait!" Knox called after her, then looked at me. "As I said, don't touch her, or you and I are gonna have ourselves a problem. Got it?" His possessiveness was heavy in his voice. I said nothing, then Knox started to run after Nila. I hadn't noticed how possessive Knox was with Nila, but now I saw it. His eye's burned with hatred for me and only because Nila was so close to me. Touching me. I rose, still feeling the soreness in my body. My throat is still burning. I had to get out of here and find something else to replace the blood here...
