Chapter 3 Five Years Later

566 Words
Five years later. In Skargness International Airport, a tall and fair woman attracted a lot of attention. The huge sunglasses on her delicate face still could not hide her beauty. The little girl beside her was as delicate as a porcelain doll. No one could look away from them. "Mommy, is this where you grew up?" asked four-year-old Maisy Morris as she looked around the airport. "Yes." Lilly answered whilst pushing their luggage. Maisy hesitated then asked cautiously, "Is Daddy here too?" Lilly's heart trembled at Maisy's question. She stopped and squatted down to look at Maisy. For a moment, she didn't know how to answer. Five years ago, she had chosen not to abort the baby. Instead, she had decided to run away whilst going to the hospital. Looking at Maisy's cute little face, she was glad that she had made the right choice. "It's ok, Mommy. Daddy is not very important!" Smart little Maisy comforted her mother when Lilly did not reply. "Lilly! Maisy!" A familiar voice broke Lilly's train of thought. "Aunt Melissa!" Maisy was the first to react. When Lilly looked over, Maisy had already thrown herself into someone's arms. That, someone, was Melissa Collins, Lilly's roommate during her first year abroad. The two girls were foreigners in a foreign land, so they naturally became friends. Melissa was good to Lilly even after learning about her past. Over time, they became best friends. Lilly worked while studying abroad. Because of her diligence, she was able to complete her studies in half the time that others did, earned a degree in architectural design and established herself as a rising star in the construction industry. "I've arranged a place for you to live, and I've submitted your resume for you. Just remember to pay attention to your email." Melissa returned to the country a year earlier than Lilly, so she was naturally more familiar with the current domestic developments. Melissa drove Lilly to her new home after leaving the airport. Lilly thanked Melissa sincerely after hearing this arrangement and touched Maisy's head. Maisy immediately understood what her mother wanted. She sweetly said to Melissa, "Thank you, Aunt Melissa. When I grow up, I will definitely buy you a lot of lollipops." The child's pure, innocent words amused the two adults, but they subconsciously looked at each other behind their smiles. Lily's eyes were full of worry. Melissa had found a home for them in the city centre of Skargness. It was easily accessible, had good living facilities and was well-equipped in all aspects. By the time they finished moving in, it was around three o'clock in the afternoon. Maisy fell asleep due to jetlag. The two adults were also tired and didn't want to move. They ordered takeout and lay on the sofa, chatting. Melissa looked at Lilly, "Have you thought about how to face your situation this time?" Lilly looked out of the window. After a long time, she replied, "Well, I can face anything for Maisy." Seeing the determination in Lilly's eyes, Melissa realized that Lilly was no longer the desperate girl she had met five years ago. "By the way, let me tell you something. The Morris family will hold a banquet next Friday. It seems to be very grand. They've invited all the famous people in Skargness." The Morris family. She had not heard that name in a long time.
