The room filled with gasps of utter shock and bewildered people. Even Lady Helen and Martha who seemed to know every little thing about the mansion affairs were completely caught off guard. But then, the cheers and claps burst out in celebration of Axel's marriage announcement.
People rushed over to congratulate them after Axel said a few more formal things and moved away from the podium. Jade looked ecstatic and shell shocked. It seemed like even she didn't know about her own marriage.
But everything hit twice as harder when it came to Ezra. The hopes and expectations Axel's misleading words and actions built up to her came crashing down. Even if she tried, she couldn't get used to the fact that Axel indeed was messing around with her, giving her false hints to get back at her.
