My father always said to stay away from these gatherings. Yeah that didn't happen. In fact they practically shoved me out the door with a dress and makeup and told me to go get married tonight. He probably just wants me out of the house. Sure, I am strong, I train every day to become the next Beta of the Amber Sky Pack, but I would rather not have my abdomen constricted inside a corset used in the olden days. My father, the Beta, probably feels I am too much of a distraction with my training that he just wants a night to himself.
And the fact that everyone eligible between the ages of eighteen and twenty-five have to go and dance and drink until they find their mate.
Well, that wasn't its purpose. It was made for us to socialize, but it has been a center of mating and, um, love? I shrugged, going up the stairs to the large rooms casually, making my way to the bar. I didn't drink, but it was just something I enjoyed looking at. Not the bar itself, just the bartender's when they do cool tricks with people's drinks. I ordered a Dr. Pepper, keeping myself safe. The table next to me was decorated beautifully with the finest sweets and pastries in all the packs. I grabbed a plateful and sat back down, taking a sip of my soda before a man stormed over, his cocky smile still fresh on his lips.
"Hey, did it hurt when you fell from heaven, 'cause you look like the finest angel there is," he said sweetly, his words slurring slightly. I pulled my hand away from his reach and he leaned forward, his lips puckered. Nope, not my mate and not sober. I pushed him off the barstool, proceeding my success with a bite of a chocolate chip cookie.
Suddenly I felt completely drained, and a solution was behind me. Coffee. Today was the day to fully fill up my coffee before going back to my father's house after this stupid celebration and I wasn't even allowed to have chocolate milk without asking first.
"Chayse!" a female voice yelled from across the ballroom. I rolled my eyes and set down my coffee. Eliza, my best friend, could sometimes be the most annoying person in the world, but I love her anyway. "You said you wouldn't leave me to the appealing men!" She grabbed my arm and pulled me away from my sweets, taking me to the dance floor. "From now on, monitor me. I don't want to get caught up in their most gorgeous.. faces.. jawlines." She started to drool and I laughed, snapping her out of the most dreamy trace she has probably ever experienced.
Well, nevermind. Once when we were ten, she saw a thirteen year old boy crossing across the schoolyard with two girls flanking him. I guess she was a fan of blondes that completely acted like douches. "Look, I don't want you falling for anyone because I know I won't be chosen," I tease, grabbing her hands and swinging her around the dance floor.
"Yeah right, you definitely won't get chosen," she snorted sarcastically. Suddenly, her eyes widened and she sniffed around the room, her eyes landing on a man sitting at a table, scanning the room as well. Their eyes locked and they walked briskly towards each other, hugging when they met. Eliza walked away with him and I was alone. Again.
Her mate was tall, nearly the size of the Alpha of the Amber Sky Pack. Then I knew his name. James, a great soldier that was once in my class. He wasn't going to become a Beta, well, if I do leave then he will be, but it almost didn't matter to me. Sure the tank would be nice, but I had a feeling that it would've been too serious. Eliza is lucky to have him and stay inside the pack.
I went back to my barstool, surprised when everything was still there. But right when I touched a second piece of fudge, gasps were spread across the room and I turned to look at what or who had entered. My nose caught the strong scent of pine and oak wood, the scent of three packs in the territories. But one scent in particular scared me to the bone.
Mint.
Golden eyes stood out from the crowd, making my spine shiver and my wolf, Aria, howl with delight. 'Chayse! Go to him! Go to him!'
'Shut up, Aria! I will not abandon my treats for a second time today!'
A low growl enveloped the room, making my skin crawl and my lip tremble slightly. It was lower than all the growls that I have ever heard, making me instantly know who this feared man was: Alpha Laven of the Blood Moon Pack. Aria was howling and speaking gibberish throughout the whole experience and it was starting to annoy me greatly. The whole crowd turned at the loud growl and cowered in fear. The golden eyes turned until they landed on me. I found Eliza and I found her buried in her mate's chest, her own chest heaving and her face red. Her mate was comforting her, but her tears wouldn't stop. They knew what was happening.
The golden eyes locked with mine, my heart enchanted by the glow that they gave off. The eyes grew nearer, and I could finally see to whom they belonged. I was correct.
Alpha Laven. The most feared man in history.
My shoulders trembled as he approached, my piece of fudge still in hand. His face showed no signs of emotion and neither did his eyes, his golden eyes hard and straight unlike all the other men in the room. His arms found themselves on either side of me on the table, trapping me almost to his chest.
"Mine," he growled from deep in his throat.
"Yeah, mine." I said sarcastically back, picking up another piece of fudge and popping both in my mouth. "Definitely my fudge, mister." He stared at me, no emotion flickering in his eyes except for an occasional eye roll at my stubbornness.
"I enjoy being in your presence more than anything else," he whispers, leaning in. The big bad Alpha is trying to please me, aww. "Amber Sky she-wolf."
"I enjoy your presence about as much as I enjoy sleeping next to a trash can," I reply simply, narrowing my eyes. He didn't like that one bit. "And I have a name, you ass!"
His eyes changed now, and not to anything pleasant. Anger raged war in his eyes, his hands tightening on the table so hard his knuckles turned white. I took the time to examine as he did me. His brown hair was slightest golden at the top, complimenting his *cough* gorgeous *cough* golden eyes. His skin was slightly tan with a little bit of stubble on his face. His jawline was sharp, razor sharp. I have to say, every girl loves a sharp jawline.
He growled his deep growl again, but this time I didn't tremble. I c****d an eyebrow, standing up to him. He narrowed his eyes even more and grasped my arm harshly, dragging me to the door. "If I see any of you looking at my mate, your limbs will personally be ripped from your body!" he roared, practically throwing me off the door and into his expensive Bugatti. I clung to the inside door handle, desperate to leave.
"You know, you are committing a crime, mister. This is practically k********g!" I say, raising my voice slightly.
"I am your mate, I can do whatever I want, she-wolf." he snarled.
"No, this might as well be human trafficking! And I have a name!" I snarled back.
He grasped my wrist this time, squeezing awfully hard. I was sure a bruise would form immediately from the major crushing. "Stop! You're hurting me!" I cried, tears pooling at my eyes and some rolling down my cheeks. A flicker of regret and hurt flowed through his eyes before a moment later he let go, his hard stare returning. After a few seconds, I decided to speak to him. "My name is Chayse Vega."
"You got your name wrong, darling." he smirked, the first sign of amusement flickering in his eyes. I gave him a confused look, my eyes still red and puffy. I held my wrist closer to my chest in the fear that he would grasp it again, but he didn't even try. "Your name is Chayse Laven."
Sadly, Alpha Laven didn't kill me because of his overly reckless driving. He only dragged me up the stairs without my will in a lace dress and luggage. He didn't care if my tailbone was in constant pain from hitting the next stair step. He didn't care that now my opposite wrist was in pain also because of grasping it harshly. He didn't care that because of him dragging me up the stairs with only one of my arms is killing the hell out of my shoulder and elbow.
He threw me on top of a bed that smelled of mint, Laven's scent. I flipped myself over so I could see Alpha Laven, but he was all too close to me. As a matter of fact, right on top of me, his arms on either side of my face, trapping me once again within his hold. "Time for your punishment, Little Mate." I made a threatening face at what he called me. Sure, I was 5 4' and he was 6 2' but that didn't mean that I was small. That only meant that I didn't grow abnormally tall like he obviously has.
His suit jacket was already off, exposing his tight shirt underneath that clung to his body like his own skin. He leaned down, kissing my jawline gently, his kisses soft and becoming more passionate as they continued. He started licking and sucking at my neck, his lips touching my skin like silk. He found a spot below my ear lobe that made me groan unintentionally before I could bite my lip to keep it contained. I could feel his smirk on my skin and he continued to suck and kiss that spot. When he had enough, he lifted his perfectly sculpted face, his eyes connecting with mine.
Then I had a plan, looking into his eyes. I mentally smirked. I had a devious, devilish, million dollar plan. Oh, for this I wish I were on a prank channel on TV. I pulled one hand, cupping the side of his face, where his shocked expression instantly turned into pleasure from my touch. He pressed his face into my hand as I took my hand into his hair, pulling at the roots with a light tug. He moaned softly from his lips, his eyes fluttering closed. A second afterwards I pushed him off, throwing open the door and sprinting down the hallway, my heels behind left behind as I ran. I thanked the Moon Goddess for my shorter dress and ran faster, going into rooms and hoping for a window.
No windows. I must've been in the heart of the house. I opened door after door, hoping for an exit, but then there was him, his eyes plunging into my brain and looking over me inside out. He grasped my waist and tugged me to his chest, my face centimeters away from his. "You took advantage of my weakness, Little Mate."
"Hair pulling?" I asked, hopeful to use it next time.
"No," he replied, throwing me over his shoulder and dragging me back into the room. "Little Mate, I have clothes for you in the second closet and cleansing products for the shower in the cabinet above the sink, go get ready for bed." I took my chance to get away from him by locking myself in the bathroom, picking out a long shirt and undergarments then stripping myself naked and getting into the bathtub, ready to fill it with warm water.
I guess I was just one of those weird people who get in the tub before they fill it. Eh, it didn't matter to me anyway. I shrugged and turned on the water, thankful that I was in the Alpha house where the heaters warmed up the water immediately. I sighed as the water came in contact with my skin. I grabbed Bath & Body Works shower gels and spread it over my newly shaved legs, making them as soft as a baby's bottom. I luckily found Coconut Oil, which I put in my hair that removed any bad hairs and softened the rest, ridding them of dandruff and bad oils. I sighed, letting myself sink peacefully into the water, logging for a moment before I rinsed it out, then finishing up with my body soap.
I found warm towels on the counter and wrapped them around my body and squeezed my hair out, drying myself quickly and slipping on the long maroon colored shirt and undergarments and opening the bathroom door to the bedroom, where there was no sign of Alpha Laven besides the faint scent of him once being here. I shrugged and slipped into bed, pulling the covers over me and inhaling the sweet scent of mint, pine, and oak wood. I was officially a part of the Blood Moon pack.
The man opened the door to his bedroom slightly, finding the girl in his bed, hugging one of his pillows tightly in her arms and another underneath her head, her back to the door. He silently walked barefoot over to her, examining her face like he did at the gathering. Her soft brown hair was something to truly admire and her skin was soft, like the softest alpaca wool anyone could buy. He lightly brushed the side of her head, feeling her hair and pulling it slightly, making the girl smile in her sleep. The man smiled, kissing her forehead.
"You have no idea what you do to me, Little Mate." he whispers, moving to his side of the bed and climbing in, pulling her body to his slowly to avoid her waking up. When she was against his chest, the man sighed, drifting into the calmest sleep.
