Back at the palace, Jake was seated on the floor inside Zevelon’s shrine. He felt drawn to the Goddess’ statue for some strange reason. It had a calming effect on his soul. Away from society, where no one would interrupt his contemplations, he felt a sense of profound tranquility. Killing so many people over the last few days had changed his perception about himself. There was a time when he wouldn’t even hurt a fly in his own world, but now watching others die gave him a cruel pleasure.
