Chapter 6

ROLLINGS POV

We were all on our way to the mall to surprise our mates and have lunch with them. I was driving while Chris and Brax sat in the back. We were jamming out to the radio and were about halfway to the mall when I noticed Brax was mind-linked. I patiently waited to hear what was happening. I had a bad feeling that it concerned our mates. Brax let out a frustrated sigh, then told me to speed up. I could see the muscle in his jaw flexing, a clear indication that he was pissed.

“Brax, what is going on?” I asked cautiously.

He ran his fingers through his hair before he spoke. “I was just mind-linked by one of the warriors that are with our mates.” He said, sighing.

Chris quickly became alert. “Is everything okay?”

I could feel Skull become restless. Something is wrong!

“Alpha, my wolf is becoming edgy, so please tell us what is happening.” I begged.

Brax nodded. “The girls are currently headed towards the food court, and they sense that the girls are being followed but so far cannot pinpoint the person or persons following the girls.”

I quickly increased my speed to reach my mate quickly. There were a million scenarios running through my head about what could be happening to my mate! I tried to focus on the road so that I didn’t kill us.

“Rolls, do you want me to drive?” Braxton asked me.

I took a deep breath, then blew it out. “No, thank you. I will be okay, just worried.” I quickly shut out Skull was NOT helping at all. He was going berserk, and I could not have that happen. The rest of the drive was quiet, and we made it to the mall in record time. We barely parked when I was already out of the vehicle.

Alpha, Beta, Gamma. There is a guy that is terrifying Beta Paulette! We were mind-linked by Mason, the lead warrior watching over our females.

Who is it? I asked, alarmed.

I don’t know but he doesn’t smell like a wolf or a human either. We are in the food court in line at the Mexican restaurant.

We are on our way, keep protecting all the women! Alpha Braxton cut the link and we quickly made our way to our mates.

When we arrived, the scene angered me. I instantly knew that the man was a vampire, but I had no idea how he knew my mate. Skull tried to push forward when we saw the vampire grab Paulette’s arm, hard. I saw red and immediately stepped between them. I soon realized that Paulette had a previous relationship and that he terrified her! We found out that his name was Donovan and that she had absolutely no clue that he was a vampire.

He was escorted out of the mall but the look that he gave Paulette clearly stated that he was NOT giving up on taking her. It was extremely difficult to keep him from touching our mate! I felt a light touch against my back and instantly calmed down. I spun around to face my mate. I saw the fear still in her eyes and wrapped her up in a tight embrace. It gutted me seeing her so scared! I buried my face in her neck and breathed her scent deep in. I could feel her doing the same as she held me tight, like her life depended on it! “Babe, are you okay?” I asked her softly.

She trembled in my arms as she sobbed into my chest. “No, I’m not. Can we just go home, please?” She begged.

I pulled back enough to look at her face. I could see the tears on her face. Skull was whimpering in my head at how broken she looked at the moment. I nodded my head to her. “Yes, my love, we can go home. How about we order some food to go so that you can eat on the way, okay?”

She started to shake her head no before I cut her off.

“Babe, you need to eat something, please. I can’t watch you go hungry, okay?” I said as I gently grabbed her arms to calm her down more. I knew that I needed to talk to her about Donovan, but I first needed to take care of my mate and pups. We could always talk once she calmed down more.

She finally sighed in defeat. “Okay, can you order me something, I’m too upset to look at the menu at the moment.”

I nodded. “Why don’t you go talk to Rae? She looks upset as well and it looks like Brax needs help.”

She nodded and headed towards where Rae was sitting. I was soon joined by Brax and Chris. We all ordered enough food for everyone. It didn’t take long for our food to be ready, so we met back up with the girls, and we all headed towards the parking lot.

I could feel Paulette becoming tense again, so I looked around and became angry when I saw Donovan staring at us from next to our cars. I growled and that brought Rae’s attention to me. She followed my line of sight and I heard both her and Brax growl.

I watched in awe as Donovan, magically, was pushed away from our vehicle. By the time we made it safely to the SUV, Donovan was red-faced with so much unbridled anger. At first, he was glaring at my mate, but then he glared with so much hatred at Rae that Braxton was on the verge of shifting!

Rae laughed at the way Donovan was looking at her, but he could do nothing about it. He was being held in place by a force-field. I knew that Luna, Rae’s wolf, had something to do with that.

Braxton then cleared his throat. “How about the warriors split up and we each take a vehicle? Rae and I will take my vehicle, so if one of you fine gentlemen would you please put her bags in the trunk? Chris and Sam can take one of the SUV’s as well as a warrior or two. Rolls, you take Pauly and the remaining warriors and we will all meet each other back at the pack house.”

We all nodded and dispersed. I quickly escorted my mate to the back of the Chevy Tahoe that the warriors drove in. I sat next to her and placed the food I got her on her lap so she could eat. “Babe, I will be helping the warriors bring your purchases to the trunk, okay?”

She simply nodded but began to pick at the food. She quietly ate while I grabbed her things. I know that we will need to spend some time putting the nursery together for our pups and soon P will be helping Rae and Brax put their nursery together for their triplets.

I got back into the back seat once all the bags were all in the trunk. I look to see that Paulette has demolished half of the food. She closes the lid of her to-go box. She then placed the food box on the seat next to her. She looked at me with unease that filled in her eyes. “Are you still mad at me?” She barely whispered.

I just pulled her onto my lap and placed her head against my chest and kissed her on top of her head. “No, baby girl, I am not mad at you, but I want you to tell me about Donovan Shalloway and leave no details out. I want to know everything!” I said in a gentle but stern voice.

I felt her body tense, then she gently nodded. “Okay, but we don’t have enough time on the drive home. Can we talk about this in our room?”

I heaved a long sigh. “Okay, fine.” I rubbed her back before a thought occurred to me. “Does Rae know about him?”

She pulls back and shakes her head with fear in her eyes. “No, I haven’t told ANYONE about him!” She started to sob again.

I quickly did what I could to calm her down because I knew that if she continued, she would have gotten sick and thrown up everything that she just ate, and I couldn’t have that. “It’s okay, baby, please calm down.” We continued the drive-in silence, and I just held her on my lap with my left arm wrapped around her and my right hand on her belly. I relished the feeling of my pups moving at my touch.

“Rolls?” I heard her whisper.

“Yes, baby girl?” It broke my heart to hear the vulnerability in her voice.

“I love you, please don’t leave me…us!” She sobbed out.

I hugged her tighter. “I could never leave you! You are my mate and the mother of my children. You are stuck with me for life!”

We arrived at the pack house quickly after that and I could not wait to get her into our room. As much as I knew that she didn’t want to talk about him, I needed to know everything so that I could better protect her. We exited the vehicle and I motioned for some of the Omegas to please take the bags to the nursery. I then led the way into the pack house. I could feel Paulette drag her feet, so I quietly walked beside her and once she realized that I wasn’t going anywhere she quickened her pace to our room.

“Where are you two headed?” Brax asked.

I turned to look at my best friend and alpha. “I think that she would be more comfortable talking to me first. Then when I know everything, I will discuss it with you all. I don’t want more stress on my pups than has already been done.”

Brax nodded and I walked Paulette to our room. I opened the door and escorted her into the room. I patiently waited for her to be ready to tell me about her past with Donovan. She walked over to the couch and hesitantly sat down. She looked up at me with pain and tears in her eyes. She reached her arms out to me, so I walked over to her and sat down next to her. She wrapped her arms around my waist. She laid her head onto my chest as I wrapped my arms around her shoulders. “Could you please just keep holding me while I tell you about the nightmare I lived through.”

It broke my heart to hear the brokenness in her voice as she asked me to hold her. I kissed her head. “Of course, beautiful.” I got comfortable as I readied myself to listen to my mate’s story.
