1043 Words
Mika and I finally reached home. I was feeling a bit better now after drinking that disgusting "Hula Twister Drink." "This is all your fault! If I didn't see you flirting with that boy at the snackhouse, I wouldn't have made a bet with that newspaper boy!" I scolded my younger sister. What do you mean it's all my fault?" Mika asked, in a confused manner. "You were shamelessy flirting with that boy at the snackhouse!" I snapped at my sister. "Oh.You mean Ren?" said Mika. I raised an eyebrow at her. "I don't care about his name! Look, Mika. I'm trying to protect you because I'm your older sister, so that's why I'm getting mad like this!' I reprimanded her. "Of course I know that, but there's a little misunderstanding----!" I didn't give Mika a chance to finish her sentence. "I saw it with my very own eyes! He was leaning too close to you. And you just laughed without even moving away from him!" I said in horror. "They are our family friend, Nao. You can even ask Mama about them." Mika tried yo reason out I put my hands on my hips as I carefully surveyed her. "Whatever! I don't want to see you getting close with that boy again! Is that clear?" "But Nao, please let me explain--!" Mika wasn't able to finish her explanation when I decided to march straight to my room. Meanwhile, Mika curiously frowned, while watching her sister go upstairs. "What's gotten into her?" she whispered to herself. ======================= Few days have passed. Sunday morning. I suddenly woke up from my deep sleep when I heard someone laughing. That laughter echoed at the four corners of the house. I covered my ears with a pillow, but it was no use. I just decided to get up from bed to start the day. I was starting to think of a plan on how to spend the whole Sunday with my family. I suddenly felt thirsty. Without bothering to comb my hair and while still in my pajamas, I lazily walked downstairs. "Oh, there's Nao!" I heard my mother's voice. "Good morning!" I almost lost my balance on the stairs when I heard that annoying voice again... And there he was. My nightmare. "Nao, why are you still in your pajamas? Oh my, I'm sorry about this,Van..." her mother apologized, while looking embarassed. "It's alright, Doctor Nishikawa. Maybe she forgot about our plan for today." Van reiterated. My goodness, I forgot about our bet! "Nao, what are you still standing there for?Get dressed already! Van has been waiting for an hour now." my mother said, while looking so excited. She must've been thinking that I'm going on a date. I groaned inwardly. "Take your time!" Van called out, before I could go up to my room to get dressed "That idiot." I muttered to myself, while thinking of some evil plans to ruin this stupid date. ===================== After a few minutes, I checked myself at the mirror. "This will do. It's not a real date, anyway." I whispered, as I took one last look at my reflection at the mirror. After that, I grabbed my purse and left the room. My mother, Mika and that i***t Van were still chatting happily while I was going downstairs. I had to let out a fake cough just to get their attention. "Nao...What are you wearing?" my mother asked, while looking a little disappointed. I pulled out an innocent face as I look at my clothes. "What's wrong with my clothes?" I probed. "What's with that boyish fashion sense?" Mika exclaimed, as she surveyed my loose pants, and an oversized shirt. "I think it suits her." Van suddenly pipes in. I almost wanted to scream out while tearing my hair after I heard his comment... And there goes my plan of ruining this "so-called date!" "Then, what are you kids waiting for? You should go!" my mother suggested. I gave my mother one last pleading look to stop all of this nonsense but it was completely useless. "Have fun, guys!" I heard Mika's teasing tone. "I'll kill you later!" I said at the back of my mind. "We'll be going now, Doctor Nishikawa. I'll make sure that Nao will come back home before 7 pm." Van promised my mother. Once we were outside, I was about to go to the backyard to get my own bicycle when Van suddenly stopped me. "Where do you think you're going?" he asked me. "I'm just going to get my bike." I curtly replied. "There's no need for that." Van smiled. My eyebrows raised a fraction after I heard him. "What? You don't expect me to walk in this heat, do you?" I unbelievably gaped at him. "Don't be silly. It's not that hot. And besides, it's windy today, so the breeze's a bit cooler." Van replied. "No way! Wait here as I get my bike----!" I was about to turn my heel to go to the backyard when I felt his hand on my wrist. I felt a sudden jolt of electricty from that single touch. "Just follow my lead, okay?" he mysteriously said, while tagging me along with him. "W-Wait,where are we going?" I squeaked, as I regained my composure. Van didn't say anything as he continued to walk. "See that?" he said, while pointing at a certain direction. I saw a bicycle parked at the nearby coconut tree, just a few meters away from where we are standing. It was gleaming in the morning sun. "I'll give you a tour with my bicycle." he proudly announced, while grinning from ear to ear. He suddenly pulled me again towards the bicycle. "This would be the first time I'm letting a girl ride on my bike." Van announced, while looking pleased and proud at himself. Should I feel proud about it?" I sarcastically spat out, but somehow, I can feel a warm sensation on my chest. And it felt good. "Are you?" Van probed, while looking at me straight in the eye. I was the first one to look away from him. Good thing some strands of my hair was covering half of my face or else he can clearly see that I'm blushing furiously like a steamed crab.
