8 “The first trial is finished.” I spun around and Chris looked past me at the far tunnel. Silva once again stood before the exit. He stepped aside and gestured to the dark hole. “Two more remain.” I crossed my arms over my chest and frowned at the creature. “Are these trials really that useful? Why don’t we just spit into our hands and shake on it?” His head swayed from side to side. “You must prove your worth as guardians of the forest. Courage is one of those proofs.” “And the others?” Chris spoke up. Silva gestured to the tunnel. “They will be revealed to you.” The vines on the walls behind him stretched out and cast their shadows over our host. Silva sank into the darkness, and when the vines retreated his spot proved to be empty. “Showoff…” I muttered as I looked up
