Myrtle recognized Nancy Young—the woman who was supposedly indebted to Palmer and couldn’t pay her back. She immediately put on her doddering old lady act. “Goodness, thank you, Nancy. I don’t know what I’d have done if you hadn’t shown up. Left the crackers on the floor, I suppose.” Nancy was pushing a large and almost empty shopping cart. In the child seat, she had a large binder which had plastic envelopes full of coupons. Next to it was the weekly ad for the grocery store. On top of the ad was a calculator. Nancy said, “How about if I give you a hand? You don’t have a cart?” Myrtle shook her head and said feebly, “I was just coming in for the milk.
