The Night King was gone, but Khrystalline had lived long enough to see another King take his place and this one wasn't going away anytime soon. She also knew that the Man in the Moon wasn't happy with her, not since she had stopped him turning another into a Winter Spirit, but what did she care about three hundred years of silence.

Prologue
Khrystalline Frost knew that she was the last person to know about the original Night King, not the spirit that wore the title in the present day. The bogeyman children feared larked underneath their beds, a spirit that became stronger on fear and had watched more than one kingdom fall into ruins. She knew the feeling of fear was strong, distinct cultures dark ages proved that to her and more than once she was tempted to punch the new Night King’s lights out or take a sword to his heart like she had done the first. The first Night King was a monster, he, and his army of the undead had only one goal in mind: death without motivation. Then he would use those he had killed to bulk up his army, all of them with glowing blue eyes and rotting skin. Khrystalline observed that it was their presence in the world that had caused summers and winters to last as long as they did, they were behind winters that would last generations. The only other time she could think of something similar was the Ice Ages and both came with a lack of food. Death, the elderly would walk away from the group to give their families a chance at survival. All of this had faded from even myth itself, but the fear of the winter months remained. Both Night King’s had one thing in common: proved that light will always follow shortly afterwards even in the darkest of times. For the new Night King, the light came in three forms: the man’s niece, the widely known Mother Nature, a fallen wishing star and a man who was the last of his kind. Mother Nature, Lynae Morningstar, had told her stories about her uncle when he had been a kind man. That he had changed after being tasked with guarding a sealed room; what had been sealed behind the door Lynae didn’t know but it had changed her uncle. Florentyn Morningstar had died that day, and only the husk of the man remained behind, Blakemore Luther. All Lynae needed at the start was a hug and a listening ear, which was different to the next two. Sanderson needed a soft hand to pick them up and brush the snow from their clothing before they hugged her torso. Telling her how the Man in the Moon had knocked into them sending them to earth shortly after the second Night King arrived. Sanderson had been the one who told her about the last arrival, about how he was the last of his kind, his clan and all Khrystalline could do from his was hide him from Blakemore’s gaze. After what happened to her winter spirits, Khrystalline swore that she would not suffer another war, nor would she place her life in the lines of fire for people who were not her own. It had been millions of years since her family had died, their faith, traditions and language were long forgotten. She was done being used and tossed to the side.
