Dexter's pov
Haiz~
My head is heavy from clouded thoughts, I find it difficult to concentrate on watching yesterday's news.
Now I've become the wealthiest and strongest Alpha there is on the planet, and yet I feel incomplete because I'm still without a mate.
"Why am I still thinking about that ungrateful woman," I groan, clenching hard on the wine glass in my hand so that it shatters to dust, dropping from the 20th floor from where I resided.
I look ahead, overlooking the city view with the world at my fingertips thanks to the wealth and power I've achieved in the last four years after that woman disappeared.
"How dare she!" I mutter with boiling rage, clenching hard against my teeth as I ball my hand into a fist.
Everyone wants me now, every human woman, and every she-wolf and yet, a common woman with nothing to her name dares to run away from me.
My wolf has been yearning non-stop, to the point where it's weakening me from the inside.
"After all I gave her, she suddenly disappears, the mate I found four years ago vanishes into thin air after getting the money she wanted, humans!" I scoff.
I caress my temple as I force myself to calm down when I feel a familiar stench inside my room.
"You came back so quickly," I say, reaching for the wine bottle and glass to pour myself another wine.
"I couldn't stay for long Alpha, I apologise."
Ha!
I turn around irritated to find my Beta with his head down, that look of failure all over his face quickens my urge to get rid of him as my anger knows no bounds. Still, I can't dispose of him just yet.
"Did you do as I asked George?"
"Yes Alpha," he responds rather quickly as he raises his head with enough courage to look me in the eyes, I guess he must have done something right.
George takes out a document from a bag and hands it over to me, "all the information you need is in this document."
"Alright, leave it here and go," I ordered, showing him my back as I returned to my drinking.
However, George's footsteps are not heard and his scent remains.
He's still here!
"Alpha…" he calls out to me with stress.
"What!"
I see George holding back his tongue, he's nervous, unsure of what to say, or perhaps he's choosing his words carefully so I don't kill him.
Still, after seemingly summoning enough courage he opens his mouth to speak.
Well it's about time, I was just about sending him away if he plans to keep me waiting.
"Don't you think it's time to start finding another female, or an heir who will take care of everything, the council is pressing hard about dethroning you, you have just one year left, if you can't have an heir within that time then…"
Crash!!!
The bottle of wine I have been planning to consume crashes barely a few feet away from Dexter's face and into the wall.
I can feel my anger boil hotter than ever as I stare at him with a threatening side glance.
"Those old bastards, I've realised after coming a long way that you can never satisfy those old hags, let them do as they please, the only reason they can bark at my back is because they can't do it before me."
"But Alpha…"
"Enough!" I yell loud enough to silence him, but also cause the glass nearby to break.
Acknowledging the situation, I take yet another deep breath and take a seat.
My head lowers and I close my eyes, "you may leave now," I tell him.
This time George wastes no time and hurries away.
Quite the coward I believe.
For four years I searched for her without any success, but now I find her in a boring city with so many accomplishments that the city sings her praises.
She's changed her name, but not her scent and not her face, perhaps her hair but not the look.
How can I ever forget that look that completely bewitched me?
"So she's much better than the street rat she was before, to think she'll outsmart the best, I underestimated her, not bad for a human mate," I say to myself with laughter.
I had George search for her and he comes back with a document, I sure hope this contains her home address.
"Well now I'm afraid it's about time we meet, you've come a long way Vida."
I can't let her go like that after taking my money.
I get up and stretch, I feel good from the thoughts of reuniting with my runways trickster or a mate.
Oh… when I find her… I'll make sure to break her wings.
Ding Dong~
The doorbell echoes, "Sir..!" I hear George's voice echoing from the door once again.
With a Tch from irritation, I hurry towards the door and open it so I can yell in his face.
"For crying out loud, stop interrupting me."
"No sir, that's not it," the stubborn man tells me.
From his boldness, it seems to be an emergency. It's not every day I get to meet someone telling me I have it wrong, the last person who did something like this was 'her.'
"Alright, then what is?"
"We've got two kids at the front desk," he answers.
"Two kids? Handle them, what's with you and your incompetence."
"No sir, that's not the issue," he tells me once again.
I get really upset from his half sentences and place my hand upon his shoulder so I can have him look me in the eyes and know I don't look like I'm in it for games.
"It's not, then what is?"
"Well…"
"Well…? Out with it dammit," I yell.
With a sigh, he caresses his temple and opens his mouth, "You see Alpha, they seem to claim to be your kids."
My ears perk and for the first time in my life, I get goosebumps from hearing such words that I'm left almost speechless.
