Vida’s POV
“One night, let’s have s*x for one night, and I’ll settle your grandmother’s hospital bill,” the proud arrogant man says without second thoughts.
To think someone would have the balls to say something so embarrassing directly without as little as a flinch.
I’m uncertain how to react as I stand there moping at him with my brows furrowed in anger from this man offending my dignity, does he see me as a prostitute or something?
“Excuse me?” I question as if I had gone deaf, the anger on me all too visible as I dare not hide my emotion from this pervert, “Do I look like a w***e to you?”
With a scoff, he brushes off my question with a look on his face as if he were asking if I wasn’t, when he notices that I may have caught on to the meaning behind the irritating look on his face, he continues “You need money to treat your sick mother, and I need a woman who will be the mother of my pups,” he answers.
“No!” I firmly tell him without a second thought.
He flinches, his eyes staring at me with unbelief like a man who’s never heard the word no before.
If he hasn’t I feel the need to give him a piece of my mind with many more ‘no’ to come.
“No?!”
His mouth seems to have a bit of difficulty closing, but just as I think I have won the battle, his look of surprise quickly averts into a frown.
Previously he looked like a cold-blooded man when I first met him, but now, I believe the word ‘no’ may have annoyed him in a more possible way than I imagined.
His teeth tight clenches that I can hear his teeth grinding hard upon the other, his vein stream becoming visible as he balls his fist, meanwhile, his eyes seem to scare me the most as they look like they can swallow me whole.
His glare frightens me, a little squeak escaping my lips as I push my head backwards desperate for an escape route.
“I… I… I,” my words, stuck in my throat begin to choke me as I panic.
Doing my best to get out of this frightening situation I begin to list out all the stuff I may consider adding to my CV.
"I can do anything else, I can cook, clean, handle legal affairs, anything except that,” I explain while I tremble.
My eyes quickly wander around the room as I search for an escape route, but both my paths are obstructed by him and I’m left without a place to run to.
He’s quiet, it frightens me a whole lot as he stares into my eyes like a devourer.
“Hahaha!”
I’m stunned, speechless, and completely confused as Dexter erupts into surprising laughter.
He takes his hand away from the path blocking my exit and walks towards the bed and sits down, he clears his throat and holds back his laugh and yet a chuckle escapes his lips every second.
“I’m sorry, It’s just so funny, but…” he falls silent and his glares daggers into my soul, changing the atmosphere within seconds as I could feel his dominance cloud the room, “just who do you think I am?”
Ah~
So that's why he was laughing, I can see how he plans to mock me.
“Dexter Palmer?” I question with a bit of curiosity to know if I’m right or wrong since I still find it hard to believe this man’s identity.
As if confirming my words he nods proudly with his chest puffs out to showcase his pride from just being acknowledged by his full name. I know Logan is terrible, but I've never met a man so full of himself like this man.
“Yes, I am that man, I have the most efficient lawyers working for me, and the law cannot function without my permission and yet you think that I will even for a second choose someone who works at a low-class firm,” he says.
“I understand, but what you're asking for is…”
With his right hand up, he silenced me, “That's enough.”
The predator of a man rests his chin upon his knitted fingers, and lowers his face, “If I were to kill you here, I wouldn’t even bother making it look like an accident, once the cops see me, that’ll be the end of the justice you aim to get.”
My legs weaken upon hearing his words, and my palm begins to get sweaty prompting me to grab hold of my dress. I dare not lock eyes with this man out of fear, as I find myself stricken with intimidation.
Still, my lips itch and I yell out with anger, “You take advantage of the weak, do you think you can always get away with what you do?”
“Yes,” Dexter answers swiftly to the point where I’m taken back without any more words left to say, he continues with a frightening smug on his face, “and I’m not saying this because I just want to talk, I’m saying I can because I can.”
With those words Dexter rises to his feet, each step he takes feels like I'm getting near to meeting my ancestors.
Quickly I reach for the door and open it, my face clashing with a rock-hard back which I eventually come to realise belongs to the frightening bodyguard.
I'm trapped, and this man is barely a few feet away from me.
“Don’t come anywhere near me you psycho,” I warn him with my back against the door.
Refusing to listen to my words Dexter continues and my heart starts thumping faster than a beating drum, “I’m afraid you do not have what it takes to order me around Miss Vida."
Now standing barely a foot away from me, Dexter leans forward and I tilt slightly to avoid his face from nearing mine to the point where I begin to squat.
“And what would it take?”
Without knowing, Dexter seizes me by the waist and pulls me towards him.
I'm left with no other option but to guide my face crossing my hand over each other while I turn away, but rather than do something crazy, all I hear is a whisper in my ear and he tells me, “It'll take the mother of my pups to order me around because not just any woman can be the mother of my pups."
His firm hands around my waist loosen and I come free, making a run for it. I hurry to the window, letting him know I would not spare a second thought to jump off if he attempts something funny.
The room is quiet, the tension too strong and awkward as we just stare at each other.
Brrrr~
My phone resting in my pocket begins to vibrate, his eyes stare at my thigh where the sound comes from and he immediately nudges at me.
“Why don’t you pick it up,” he says, making his way to take a seat on the bed once again.
With my eyes locked on him from suspicion, I reach for my phone and answer the call.
“Hello Vida ….” a familiar voice greets me.
“Yes?”
“Well, I don't know if you remember me, but I called you earlier, I’m from the hospital and I just want to inform you that your bills are overdue, and if you cannot pay then we’ll be forced to take your grandmother off life support, thank you."
The room becomes quiet once again as I gently slide the phone from my ear, embarrassed I stare at him, “Did you hear all of that?”
“I’m a wolf, hearing from miles away is one of my specialities, and it’s even much better than you imagined since I’m an alpha," Dexter tells me.
My mind is heavily clouded with thoughts of sadness.
The only family I have left, 'she's going to die.'
Dexter is just sitting on the bed, staring at me as if he was waiting for this moment to arrive.
"You shouldn't cry, this is what you want isn't it?' he asks, only then do I realise my cheeks are wet with tears.
Like a prey being lured, I find Dexter's words stab me hard right where it hurts the most.
With a deep breath, I sigh heavily, my fist tightly clenched as I muster up about enough courage and willpower.
“Alright, I’ll agree to your terms, but you will have to promise me, swear on your life that’ll you’ll help me once we get to business,” I tell him boldly.
Dexter grins wickedly, “you have my word Vida,” he says, however, I get goosebumps from that smugness, and I keep having this feeling that something doesn't feel right just yet, “but my requirement isn’t just for you to bear my pups."
“It isn’t?” I ask with utter confusion.
“Oh… no dearie," he laughs, "you must first serve and please me, then once we’re done, I’ll decide whether or not you meet my requirements."
“...” Ah this devil, I should have known it wouldn't have been so easy to get what I want, it's obvious he's also after pleasure and satisfaction.
“Do you want to save your grandmother or not?” Dexter asks.
Swiftly I nod while I tremble.
“Good, now be a good girl and come here, the sun is still up, so we can get started, we have a long…. The night ahead of us Vida," the devil tells.
Now I understand, it is true that the devil doesn't bargain.
