CHAPTER 6

I opened the door and saw someone kneeling by my bedside. The other girls were on their beds including Kristal's replacement.

"What are you doing there?" she turned sharply and stared at me trying to form words.

"I.. well... There was" I noticed the paper in her hand. I grabbed her wrists angrily and dug my nails into her skin.

I snatched the paper with my other hand and shouted in her face. "What are you doing with this?"

"You're hurting me" I could see fear in her eyes and I was glad. Maybe next time she'll stay away from my things.

"What were you doing with my stuff"

"I-I- please you're hurting me. Please I'm sorry" I dug my nails deeper glaring angrily at her. Tears were dropping down her eyes. Hands dragged my wrists forcefully and I let go of her hands.

I turned my glare to the intruder. Lyndsay stood with her hands on her hips glaring at me.

"She apologized already"

I ignored her and turned to Germain. "This will be the last time I warn you to stay away from my things. Remember what happened to the last person that went through my things. I'm sure you value your life" I bumped her shoulder as I walked out of the room in anger.

I walked down the corridor and to the back stairwell. I looked at the paper in my hands and sighed. I took the lighter from my pocket and set the paper on fire.

I had to find a way to lock my things so those nosy rats could stop looking through them. I threw the paper on the floor and watch it burn.

I used my feet to scatter the ashes and left the stairwell.

My path was blocked by a security guard. "Come with me"

"What for?"

"Boss wants to see you" s**t. What did I do? The plan was to go unnoticed now the boss wanted to see me?

I moved behind him until we got to the boss office. He opened the door and stood by the side. I took a deep breath before I entered the study.

The guard closed the door behind me. I walked farther into the office and noticed the other people in the room.

Germain stood beside Faddei and the two women from the dungeons were also present. Two male guards were standing opposite the women. And Adrik sat in the middle.

I felt their eyes on me as I walked to the desk. I held my head high and kept my face blank.

"Don" my voice was steady. He looked up slowly from the papers. His eyes assessing me.

"You assaulted a maid" I looked at Germain.

"It was a mistake. I was angry"

"Was it now?"

"She was going through my things?"

"Have something to hide?" His intense eyes bored into me.

"I like my privacy"

He tutted. His eyes held mine for a moment.

"Lyudmila"

"Yes Don" so mean lady from the basement was Lyudmila.

He turned to me. "I want you to fight Lyudmila"

Fight her. What was he going on about. I opened my mouth to speak but I shut up.

Lyudmila had taken her stance already. I could hold my own against her but I wasn't about to show them I could fight.

I closed my fist and took my stance. We circled each other and she threw a punch and out of instincts I blocked. That seemed to annoy her because she started blowing blind punches, hitting me square on my nose.

Fucking hell. I should have dodged that. She threw a kick to my side and I crumpled on the floor. She kicked my side again and I rolled over in pain. She grabbed the collar of my dress lifting me from the floor and throwing me against the wall. I felt my bones break.

I cursed her in my head. I lay there helpless as I heard her footsteps. She stopped in front of me, lifting me up and ready to throw another punch.

"Enough" Don interrupted. She let go of my collar and I fell. I groaned as I tried to sit up.

The Don was now standing in our front. I looked up at his expressionless eyes. We stared at each other until Lyudmila cleared her throat.

"Leave us" he said while still looking at me.

"Don..." Lyudmila started.

"NOW" I heard the sounds of footsteps and the lock of the door.

He offered his hands and I took it. He helped me up and took me to the chair.

He disappeared behind his desk and came back with a first aid kit.

He cleaned up my injuries while we sat in silence. He pressed his hands against my side and I groaned.

"A doctor will see you"

"Thank you" I mumbled.

"What's your full name?" I looked up surprised. His eyes watching me. I looked away quickly.

Where was this coming from? "Maia"

"No last name?" I shook my head.

"You're not on any system in the country" he did a f*****g background check on me?

I sat still without answering. He moved my hair from my face.

"If I find out you're a spy, I'll cut you up piece by piece until you beg me for death. Am I clear?"

"Yes Don" my voice unwavering. I stood abruptly and murmured a thank you before I rushed out of his office.

I've been stupid and careless. I had drawn attention to myself. I needed to act fast and leave before they found me out. Attention meant trouble and I wasn't ready for that.

I rushed to my room bumping into Lyudmila on the way. She gave me a disgusting look but I ignored her. I rushed straight to my room ignoring the pain in my side.

The girls stopped what they are doing and looked at me. I ignored them and checked my calendar. I had two days until free day.

I smiled despite my pain. I had something to look forward to.
