CHAPTER 9

"Have dinner with me" if i said i wasn't shocked by his request then i would be a terrible liar. "I'm sorry Don but i cannot" i said trying to sound as meek as possible. "I was not asking" he said bluntly before tapping on the car windows. The doors were opened and he stepped outside. He held out his hands for me and i reluctantly took it. I looked at my feet as we walked inside. I was not timid or any of that s**t. But with the attention i had on me, i could only act like i was. I came for revenge and i was going to do anything in my power to get it. And if i showed my true nature and get kicked out, then all these would be in vain. "Can i change out of my dress?" He looked at me for a while. “You look good in this” he moved closer and I inhaled his manly scent. I tried to step back but he pulled me by my waist. “You are always in the maid dress. You look just fine in this” What the f**k was his problem? “Can I drop my bag” he looked at me. He beckoned a guard. “Take the bag with you to the lady’s room” he commanded. The f**k? I held on tightly to the bag. “Anything that shouldn’t be seen?” I couldn’t raise suspicions. I shook my head and let go of the bag. He led me into the building and to his own wing. The hallways were empty and I wondered what the time was as we walked into his wing. The large area was empty and the decor was gloomy. I’m all the years as a maid here even as an elite maid, I had never crossed the doors to this wing. The door opened and one of the men, Maks I think. He wheeled in a food cart. “Set it up” he turned to me and moved closer. I moved back slowly until I had nowhere to go. He pushed the coat of my shoulders and the cold air kissed my skin. I was so lost in his eyes that I didn’t hear the door shut. “This way” I broke out of my trance and followed him to the small table. The smell of the Russian dish filled my nose. Only the sound of cutlery could be heard as we ate. I was tense and tried as much as possible not to make any sound as I ate. “Tell me about yourself” it wasn’t a request. It was a command. I avoided his eyes and shrugged. “There’s nothing to say” “Lies” he said his voice thick. “There was absolutely nothing I could find of you even with the best of trackers and in this business, that is a huge risk” I dropped my cutlery and cleaned my lips with the napkin. “Why are you concerned about my background? As long as it doesn’t interfere with my job or your business it shouldn’t be a problem to you” He smirked. And took his drink in one go. “This would be your last warning. If I find out you are a spy or you are doing what you aren’t supposed to. I’ll find everything and everyone you hold dear and I’ll kill them right before I kill you” he stood up gracefully and my eyes followed him. “Make no mistake. I’ll find them. Every single one of them” “I’m done with dinner. Find your way out” I fisted my hand tightly and left the table and his wing. I kept a straight face as I walked through the hallway. The moment I got to my room, I threw a hard punch at the wall. The pain travelled to my shoulder and I cursed myself for being stupid. “Is something wrong?” I turned sharply at the sound of the voice. Githa stood there with a worried expression on her face. f**k. I didn’t know someone was in here. “Nothing” I tried to move past her. “I saw you.. shoot you’re bleeding” she quickly grabbed my good hand and took me to the bed. She hurried to her wardrobe and grabbed a first aid box. The antiseptic stung as she cleaned my bruised knuckle. “You seem so good at this” She chuckled. “My brother used to get into fights. I helped him clean up a lot” “Where is he now?” “Dead” I felt like s**t for asking her about it. “Sorry for asking and bringing up old memories” “It’s fine” she smiled at me. “You are very different from the rest of us. Bold and always on your own. I wish I could be more like you” she said as she bandaged my arm. “Don’t wish for what you don’t know. It’s not as rosy as you think” “I know it’s not rosy. But you handle it so well. I wish I could too” I almost laughed. I wasn’t handling it well like she thought. “Thank you for this. I owe you” I told her. “I could cash it in now” “Cash what?” I was confused. “The Favour you owe me” she smiled widely. “What is it? What do you want” “I want to be your friend” Oh no. I didn’t want friends. I didn’t want any personal attachment to anyone especially anyone in this mansion. People could get hurt. She could get hurt. “Listen Githa….” “You promised” she cut me short. “I know but….” “No buts. We can be friends. I’m not much of a pest and I really have no one to talk to” I wasn’t budging. “Pleaseeee” “Okay. Fine. We can be friends” She squealed happily and hugged me tightly. I smiled a little. She was like a child. Funny because we could be the same age but life experiences made us act different. “Where are the others?” “They should be……” the door opened. “Here they are” she murmured quietly. Her voice was no longer loud. It was like she retreated into her shell. There was more to Githa than the eye met but I didn’t want to make it my business.
