CHAPTER 12

1129 Words
The next few days passed by in a blur. I avoided anything or place that would lead me to Faddei or Adrik. Unfortunately I could only avoid them for so long. Lada instructed I be at the table today and the others were going to be there. Well except Adrik. The effects of solar was beginning to show on Lada. When she showed up for breakfast today, she looked insane. Her hair was untidy, she had eye bags and she mumbled to herself while ignoring the rest of the family. “Mama are you okay?” Ekaterina asked with a look of concern. Her other children looked at her too mostly in shock because their mother was usually prim and proper. She stared blankly at her daughter. “Mama. Mama” she looked back at her food. Eating her food hurriedly. “Water” she shouted with her mouth full. I moved to give her water. While she was grabbing the glass from me, water spilled on her and she lashed at me, scratching my skin with her nails. She looked like a crazed woman. I laughed in my head. This was exactly what I was hoping for. “Mama” Faddei was on his feet in an instant moving me out of the way and holding down his struggling mother. “Get the f*****g doctor” he screamed at no one in particular. He lifted his mother and took her out of the room while the others followed behind him. I chuckled inside my head. Sedatives will only make it worse for her. She’ll have a bad seizure but then she’ll be okay for a while. “Oh my. Look at your arms” Githa gasped as she inspected the scratch marks. “It’s fine” I brushed her off. “It’ll get infected. Let me clean that up for you” I wanted to refuse but she was persistent and if I don’t take care of it, noble Faddei will want to take me to the hospital and I didn’t want that. I followed her and she helped me clean it. I didn’t have much to do today as Lada was asleep and her children were in her room. The door opened and people entered the room. I may still with my eyes shut while I listened to them. “Did you hear about what happened at the table today?” Germain asked. “No. What happened?” Chalee asked. “The lady, Lada is crazy” “Germain. Don’t say that. Do you want your tongue cut off?” “But it’s true though. She went on a rampage and they had to use a sedative to calm her down” “How did you hear this? The don was not at the table today and you were no where close to the table” “A friend told me. Plus I was there when that handsome man came to tell the boss about what happened” “What handsome man?” I rolled over before she could reply and she went silent. “How are you feeling? We heard what happened” I shrugged. “I feel good” the door opened and one of the maids called me. “The boss wants to see you” I wanted to ask a question but she pointed at the door. The man from the hospital was standing there. “That’s the fine man” Germain murmured lowly. I rolled my eyes and followed him out. “Your wounds were cleaned up” obviously. I didn’t know if he was asking or just stating facts but that was a dumb way to start a conversation. “We’ve not properly introduced ourselves. I’m Maks” “Who is looking for me exactly?” I asked instead. “The boss” that was but the answer I was looking for but I remained silent. He led me through the hallways and to the door of the office. He pushed the door open and I stepped inside. I took in the people in the room. The Don sat behind his desk and Faddei was seated opposite him. Ekaterina was on the other chair and her husband stood behind her holding her hands tightly. I eyed their hands, our eyes meeting before I looked away and caught the eye of the Don staring between us. “You didn’t visit the hospital” Faddei moved over to me, inspecting my arms. I moved away and saw a flash of hurt in his face but he quickly masked it. “I’m fine. A friend helped me clean it up” He nodded but didn’t move away. The don stared intensely between us before he addressed me. “It’s unfortunate that you got hurt while trying to help our mother. You can take sometime off to rest and of course you’ll still get your salary in full” “That won’t be necessary. Thank you but I’m fine and can work” “Maia” Faddei said softly as he gently cupped my elbow. Adrik chuckled darkly. “I wasn’t asking” he waved his hand dismissively. f*****g stupid brute. “I’ll escort you out” Faddei offered but Adrik stopped him. “We have something to discuss” “I’ll find my way out” I turned and left the office. I ignored the footsteps behind me as I made my way through the hallways. It was probably Maks and I didn’t want to entertain any of his questions. I was roughly grabbed and pushed hard against the wall. My head bumped against the wall. “What the…..” “What the f**k do you think you’re doing?” “What the hell Colton” I tried to push him away but he held on tightly. “What do you think you’re doing. Playing the perfect maid and trying to get the family to like you? What do you hope to achieve?” “Colton. Colton” we heard Ekaterinas voice and the sound of her footsteps. He quickly dragged me to the secret corner that was hidden from her view. As soon as her footsteps faded, I pushed him away. “What are you scared of? That I’ll do exactly what you did? Sneak my way into their hearts and life? Maybe get married to the Don and have you thrown out on your ass?” He laughed. “Do you think that’s possible? That the Don would ever look at you?” He shouted in my face. “Then why are you so f*****g bothered?” “Tread lightly” he whispered in my ear. Someone cleared their throat and he moved away. The don was standing there looking at us.
