Chapter 4: Day Four *** “That lecture was so looong!” Lucas complained as he stretched his arms. “Yeah, it was.” Mason easily agreed as he picked up his bag. “I’m hungry! Let’s go eat something! On you of course!” Lucas suggested as he flashed a bright smile to his roommate. “Didn’t you get paid this month?” Mason didn’t mind buying food for the other, but it was becoming far too frequent for comfort. “Nah, not yet… I’ll have to wait another week, but then I’ll get booze to compensate!” Lucas said with a cheery voice. “Fine, I’ll buy.” Mason said as they headed to a nearby dining place. Surprisingly enough they saw familiar faces there… “Hey! Mei and L? Come over and sit here with us!” Mick said as he walked up to the other two students. “Hi there Mick.” Lucas smiles, he seemed happy to see him again. ‘What luck… Edward is here as well. Gosh… again… Well whatever I guess I’ll just look at my stats again and maybe even write a little on the notes on my phone…’ Mason thought to himself as he greeted Mick.  They ordered their food and all four sat together on the same table. This time however nothing went down as Mason had expected it to… “So, you mentioned working for a year before starting Uni, right?” Edward had turned to Mason and actually engaged in conversation. ‘What? Is his battery dead or something? He’s talking to me instead of reading on his phone…’ Mason thought and then answered the man’s question. “Yes, I’m still working since I don’t want to bother my parents to support me.” “That’s really cool. You seem like a very responsible person. Sorry for how I acted before, I was really immature.” Edward both praised and then apologized to the man next to him. ‘What has this guy been smocking? He can’t be apologizing for being an ass all of a sudden…’ Mason eternally thought but then decided not to voice his opinion. Instead all he said was. “It’s really no problem.” “Still… I’d like for us to be on good terms if possible.” Edward said as he placed his arm around Mason’s shoulder. ‘This guy is too close! Personal space mate!’ Mason internally complained and removed the man’s hand from his shoulder. “Sorry, I don’t like being too touchy with others.” “My bad, it seems all I ever do is cause you to be uncomfortable…” Edward said as he looked a bit saddened that his embrace was rejected. “So… since you’ve had a year of leave, does that mean you’re 20 already?” He asked continuing the conversation as casually as possible. “Yes, but it doesn’t really matter that I’m older than you guys.” Mason didn’t want his age to be a factor in this so he hurriedly tried to explain himself. “I don’t mind, it’s just you seem much younger. If we weren’t classmates, I would have thought you were underage.” Edward said with a smirk on his face. ‘Is this guy picking a fight?! How is it my fault that I’m born with a baby face? How about you worry about looking like a 25 year old man even though you’re only 19 buddy!’ Mason cursed in his mind but outwardly kept his composure. “Haha, I get that a lot actually. I still don’t get to buy alcohol without showing my ID card.” “Do you like drinking? What kind of drinks do you prefer?” Edward asked  as he smiled kindly. “I can drink most things but I particularly like chocolate liquors, they’re sweet. How about you?” Mason asked as they were on the topic. “Same here, I can drink most things. How is your alcohol tolerance?” Edward asked all of a sudden. “Pretty high. Yours?” Mason had to admit that he could drink quite a bit without even getting dizzy, not that he wanted to flaunt that skill. However somehow he felt a bit competitive with Edward around. “Same here… How about we have a little contest to see who’ll last longer?” Edward said as he spoke to the entire table all of a sudden. Mick and Lucas overheard that part of the conversation and eagerly agreed. “That sounds fun! How about our place?” Lucas suggested. ‘Gosh… What if they see my works there? I’ll have to hide them before inviting these guys over…’ Mason thought to himself as he looked at his unassuming roommate. “Sounds like a plan. How about tonight? Mick and I will bring the drinks.” Edward said as he made plans. “Great! Let’s say 22:00?” Lucas suggested and looked up at the people at the table for agreement. “Sounds good to me!” Mick excitedly said. “Sure.” Mason gave up on trying to make up an excuse to get out of the situation. ‘Guess I’ll have to spend more time in this guy’s company… Geez great…’ The student thought and then reminded himself that he was doing it so that his roommate can spend more time with Mick. Lucas and Mick continued to chat with each other comfortably while leaving the other two students to the side to entertain each other. “So how about we compete who can drink more tonight?” Edward suggested to Mason while leaning in towards him. ‘Again this guy, does he not understand what personal space is?’ Mason slightly leaned back and said. “Haha, sure we can compete, could be fun.” “Then what will I get if I win?” Edward asked with a smirk on his face. ‘How come he already thinks he’s won? I’ll out drink you any day!’ Mason thought to himself while saying. “What prize would you suggest?” “How about…” Edward leaned in to whisper into Mason’s ear. “…a kiss?” *** Author’s Note: All characters are of legal drinking age, which is 18 years old at the country they live in.
