I'm not staying away

‘Is my face okay?’ Leo kept asking his coach, Ruger while they were on their way to the hospital. ‘I bet I have another cracked tooth?’ He added. ‘Your face is fine, Leo’ Ruger replied, smiling sheepishly at Leo, while he pretended to observe the young man's face keenly. Leo had a cut at least, but Ruger knew that he wanted to be without blemish, because of Marilyn. ‘I can feel blood on my cheekbone and you’re saying that my face is fine’ Leo argued with Coach Ruger. He could not wait to have the doctor check him and tell him the truth because: ‘Ruger, I don’t trust you. You just want me to retain my belt by all means and...’ Leo was saying when Ruger interrupted him ‘I am here for the belt, Leo. What else am I here for? You as well, what do you think you are here for? Anything other than the championship is just a distraction that I wish you will snap out of before it's too late. Open your eyes please’ Ruger replied. ‘I understand you, and I’m sorry about my extreme actions but I like her’ Leo stubbornly told his coach. He was in the surgery section of a high brew hospital where they were currently treating his wounded cheekbone. ‘It’s obvious, right?’ Leo asked the nurse. 'Sorry, what is obvious?' The confused nurse asked him while she looked at Leo and Ruger in confusion because she thought that they were still talking to themselves. 'The cut on my face. Is it obvious?' Leo asked her clearly this time. ‘Of course sir. It’s a fresh wound. It will take up to a month to completely clear out, and that’s because you have good skin’ the nurse replied. Leo looked at Ruger with obvious, disappointed eyes. ‘What am I supposed to do now?’ He asked Ruger. Leo was upset, yet Ruger laughed sarcastically. ‘Are you out of your mind, Leo? You are going to get more cuts in the coming days. Marilyn or whatever you call her will have to get used to seeing different cuts on your face without knowing where they keep coming from. Since you don't want to be reasonable and either reveal yourself to her or let her go. I hope you are thinking of a worthy lie to tell her because I do not see you avoiding her for the next one month'. Ruger ranted. ‘Oh, you know her name?’ Leo replied with a straight face. ‘Yes, Leo. I know her name. But you are about to hand your hard work of at least the past four years over to her, to do what she wants with it’ Ruger told Leo passionately. Leo peeped at him and looked away quickly. There was an awkward silence at this point. Even the nurse was now in the know that Leo had something intense going on with him, and his winning the championship was at stake. ‘You’d be fine after you take this twice a day for a week sir’ the nurse announced with a generous smile, handing Leo a bag of pain relief pills. Leo ignored her and walked away. Ruger took the bag. Leo had won his fight but he was not happy. Or was it because it was just one fight, among a whole bloody lot that awaited him in the nearest future. ‘Where is this woman even?’ Leo muttered all of a sudden, fishing his cell phone out of his pocket and looking to see if Marilyn had called him. ‘This girl is wicked’ he said out loud behind the g-wagon Mercedes Benz he sat in. Coach Ruger peeped at him when he saw him start to type away on his phone. He knew that Leo was texting Marilyn against his will. Leo didn't text anyone that he was not directly involved with, not even his family until it was dead-end essential. ‘Hello Marilyn, What have you been up to?’ Leo texted with a straight-face emoji behind the text. Then he stuck the phone back in his pocket and stared into thin air. It didn’t take long for him to forget that he had sent a text to someone. They had punched his memory out of his ears in that fight he just narrowly won. Marilyn started to call him back and wondered why the hell he was not picking up after texting her only seconds ago. Leo had slept off. His coach asked the doctor to give him sleeping pills to knock him out if not, Leo would not rest on his own, and would be at risk of having a concussion. ‘Okay?’ Marilyn muttered, staring at her phone, waiting for Leo to call her back. ‘This Guy is so frustrating. Maybe I should just stay away now that I am seeing so many red flags’ she wondered. Leo woke up in the middle of the night, feeling way better than he had been feeling for the last forty-eight hours. His head was clear. He felt for his phone on the bed and saw that he had texted Marilyn just before he passed out. ‘Hell no’ he muttered, and without giving it a thought, he started to call her. It was 2:38 AM in the middle of the night. Marilyn sprang up from sleep. She could not believe that her phone was ringing for a call when she looked at her alarm clock and saw how late it was. ‘Leo’ she muttered when she saw his name dancing on the screen of her phone, waiting for her to pick up. ‘You act weird throughout the day, and then you embellish it with a call at this time of the night, Leo’ Marilyn said warily. ‘I’m sorry, I think I passed out soon after I called you’ he replied casually. ‘You passed out? At that time of the day?’ Marilyn asked, she thought he had gotten drunk in the afternoon. ‘Er, I should think so’ Leo replied. He had to leave her guessing because there was nothing he could tell her other than that, he also didn’t know why he passed out, it was easy for him to blame it on the fight he had but that was not enough to make him suddenly sleep off for up to eight hours.
