When Serenity woke up the next morning, she got ready slowly before she went downstairs and made breakfast. After she ate, she grabbed her keys and opened the front door.
Raising her eyebrows as she saw Jorah slowly trekking his way up the driveway. After some thought, she decided to leave the door open for him.
As the two stood face to face, they greeted each other. "I left the door open for you. Serena's a late riser and not much of a morning person." She informed him. Jorah silently studied Serenity's expression. She seemed so normal, like the pain wasn't gnawing at her.
Thinking about Jared's impassive face when he left to see Serena this morning, Jorah eyes glazed over for a second before he shook himself out of his thoughts.
"Alright, we need to schedule the tour of the territory and also about when we leave...." He trailed off. Serenity knew exactly what he meant by that. She smiled at him with a nod.
"Don't worry, I'll arrange everything today. Also, my aunt Mary is going along with you guys as my sister's personal doctor." Jorah nodded when he heard that before saying goodbye to Serenity and heading into the house to wait for Serena to wake up.
Luckily, he didn't have to wait very long as he heard the movement of her walking around upstairs and before long she was coming downstairs.
"Good morning!" From Serena's point of view, Jorah popped out of nowhere, scaring Serena into letting out a startled scream. "Oh gosh, I'm sorry."
Serena smiled awkwardly at Jorah, embarrassed by her lack of courage. "Um, how did you get in?"
"Your sister let me in." Jorah raised his eyebrows at her. "Besides, can't you smell me?"
Her face went beet red when she heard his question. Of course, she could smell him, but it was incredibly embarrassing to admit that she thought it was his lingering scent from yesterday. She was never going to admit that, though.
"Um... Make yourself at home, I'm going to get ready." Before Jorah could stop her, she already bolted upstairs. Shaking his head at her cuteness, he went to the living room and sat down.
Fifteen minutes later, Serena came downstairs dressed up with an unease look on her face.
"Breakfast?" She asked him, and he shook his head no.
"I'll wait for you to eat, I actually wanted to go on a run with you. If that's okay?" He smiled tenderly at her, Serena felt like her heart was doing backflips.
"Let's go now!" Serena forgot she had to eat breakfast and jumped at the opportunity. "I'm not hungry."
"Okay." Jorah stood up and went to the front door. Serena grabbed her keys that were attached to a stretchy wristband and put it on. Before rushing out to find Jorah in the process of taking out his pants. Blushing she didn't even take off her clothes as she shifted into wolf form and dashed to the treeline with her back facing him.
Jorah paused in his movements and then smirked. Quickly, he finished undressing and folded his clothes before stepping off the porch and shifting into his wolf form. Strutting towards Serena, he touched her sides gently with his snout, signaling he was ready.
Then the couple ran into the forest, the small one leading the big one. Serena purposely ran slowly, so it took them a while before they arrived at Serena's favorite spot.
Shifting back into human form, Serena turned and smiled brightly at Jorah. "Welcome to my favorite place. When I found out I was a runt, I stumbled upon this place and hid here until Serenity found me."
Serena crouched down and pointed out the little cave to Jorah. He shifted into his human form and crouched with her to the a look.
"By the way, can I ask you a question?" Serena turned her head and stared at Jorah, her eyes burning with curiosity. Jorah nodded. "What's one thing you never told anybody?"
"Gosh, a hard question, huh?" Jorah laughed. "Well....I think the answer to that would be, I hate my father."
"Oh?" Serena tilt her head at him. "Why would you hate him?"
"I had a sister, her name was Asha. Asha died a few years ago. And my father was the cause." Jorah shook his head as he smiled sadly. "My father realized this, so that's why he passed the throne to my brother, but my brother didn't want it. Instead, my brother always thought I'd be better as king."
"Can I ask how she died?" Serena stood up, Jorah followed and stood up with her.
"She committed sucided." Jorah told her and Serena's eyes glazed over. Realizing he may have brought up some memories for Serena he tried changing the topic.
"What about you, what's one thing you never told anybody?" Jorah asked Serena, snapping her out of her thoughts. Yet she still gave her answer some thought. After two minutes of silence, she opened her mouth.
"I resented Serenity a lot growing up. I blamed her for mom's death. Well, I still blame her for mom's death." Serena confessed.
"Oh? Why would you resent Serenity for your mom's death?" Jorah asked. His curiosity peeked when he heard Serena's answer.
"After Serenity killed dad in the challenge for pack alpha. Mom changed. She became this hollow, bitter woman. And a year after dad died, mom killed herself." Serena sighed. "I blamed Serenity for taking my parents from me. I actually lived with Aunt Mary until a few years ago."
"You ever asked Serenity why she killed your dad in the challenge?" Jorah asked Serena. She paused before shaking her head no.
"It was a do or die situation according to Aunt Mary. Ren had to kill dad because he was going to kill her." Serena explained.
Jorah hummed, not sure what to say to Serena about that situation. "Well, anyways, it's not like I had vivid memories of my dad. It's mom whom I have the most clearest memories of. She was so gentle and loving to me, even on the day she took her life. She kissed me on my forehead and sent me to school."
"You resent Serenity because you thought if your dad never died, your mom would still be alive?" Jorah clarified, and Serena nodded in agreement.
"I really resent Serenity even more when I found out I'd be a runt forever. But four years ago, when I was almost fifteen, that changed." Serena laughed, shaking her head at her immature self. "I was so angry that I would never be normal, I ran off and went to Serenity and gave her a piece of my mind."
"What happened then?" Jorah raised his right eyebrow.
"I told her how much I hated her, how she made me a runt because she took away my parents. It was the first time I saw her strong demeanor crack. She stood there with a forlorn expression and took my venting and rage before she apologized and turned and left." Serena closed her eyes. It was like she was reliving that memory. "When I got home, Aunt Mary rushed out after giving me a glare. It was only when she came back later that night she barged into my room and woke me up with a slap."
Jorah frowned. He had the sinking feeling that nothing seemed normal about this situation. He thought he understood the ins and out of the situation of tranquility fairly well. But there's some hidden beneath the surface. Jorah was beginning to believe Jared's words about Serenity being broken.
Serena's explanation only showed her perspective on things, but what about the perspectives of Mary and Thomas? What are their perspective about Serenity?
"While I clutched my face in a daze, I noticed Tom was there too. He stood behind my aunt with this pained expression. I was so confused that confusion turned to rage, and I was about to act up when Aunt Mary told me to follow her." Serena continued talking, breaking Jorah from his messy thoughts. "We went to Serenity's house and into her bedroom. They strapped her to the bed and sedated her. Apparently, she had almost killed Victor, who came to give her his daily dose of trouble."
"I always thought of my sister as this strong independent person. I thought nothing could hurt her. Even if I said some words, it wouldn't hurt, right?" Serena twirled her thumbs together. "My words did hurt. It wounded her deeply. That was the day I realized I was hating someone who was just as hurt as I was about losing our parents. She had to kill dad herself, and she found mom's body."
Jorah moved closer and pulled Serena into his arms. Serena froze when he did that, but soon after, her body loosened, and tears welled up in her eyes. Clutching his onto his arm for dear life, she couldn't hold back the tears.
"After all these years, I can understand Serenity a bit. Her stubbornness, her strengths, and her weakness. Jorah, what if I told you to tell Jared to persist. Maybe he can break down the hard shell she encased herself in, and I can see her be happy."
"You think she's not happy?" Jorah asked, and Serena nodded into his chest. "Why is she not happy?"
"Would you be happy if everyone challenges your bottom line just because you're a woman and they think women aren't capable of leading?"Serena grumbled.
"No, I think I won't be happy at all." Jorah's eyes flashed as he replied to Serena. Something is not right. From Serena's point of view, it could be seen that she was being carefully sheltered. He could help it. He just had to ask her.
"Serena, do you know why your sister doesn't want a mate?"
