"Ms. Taylor, you have a gift," Lovelyn called out to Kara.
She sighed, rubbing her forehead with her palm, "Bring it in, Lovelyn," she replied, wondering if she was audible enough with how tired she was. She had been pulled up with work ever since the weekend ended, all the work she had been shifting and procrastinating, she had to face it today because if she procrastinated even a bit more, she'll be screwed for the summer. Could have been worse if Lovelyn didn't exist.
Lovelyn came into her office, with the help of another employee with a large box, "I don't know what this is," they grunted as they dropped it on her side table, "but it sure is long and heavy."
Kara grinned, struggling to hold her laughter as Lovelyn gasped for air with her hands on her waist like a grandma, "Thank you, both of you."
"We'll leave you to it now, ma'am," the boy said before they both left her office.
"I wonder what this is. Whatever it is, I hope there's coffee in it. I'm beat," she muttered to herself.
She released the box of its beautiful, ribbon bondage. The box unraveled, revealing another box. She sighed, taking in the beautiful design of the box with its white canvas with magenta and gold art on it.
She carefully but angrily struggled to take the brown box from underneath, tossing it to the side of her office. Kara carefully loosened the beautiful white with gold embroidered ribbon that matched the box, hoping under her breath that she wouldn't have to throw this one out.
As she took the ribbon out from the bottom of the box, she was relieved the beautiful box didn't fall apart. Gently, she took the cover off the box, dropping it to the floor unwillingly as she gasped for air. Her eyes began to water as she beheld the gorgeous bouquet
The box contained a large, heart-shaped set of Magenta and white mixed roses with a thinner box at the side with a note.
Her smile grew larger as she slid the thin box from the side of the box with one hand and the note in her other hand, dropping them both on the table. She bent a bit, taking in the fresh vanilla smell of the flowers that engulfed her nostrils.
The note read, 'You always say you need a little more decor to your spaces. Here are some scented, artificial flowers for all the hard work you do and just because I love you ~Eden.'
Her cheeks brightened a wide-toothed smile plastered on her face as she dropped the note back with the flowers.
The thinner box contained three perfumes, one that smelled like the color violet would smell like, stunning, the other vanilla, and the last was a beautiful smell that she had never heard of, but she loved.
"Someone's blushing," Kara's heart skipped a solid bear, her soul almost jumping right out of her body as the voice echoed suddenly through her office.
"So you're in town, hmm? I didn't hear you knock to enter my office," she crossed her arms on her chest, trying to contain her happiness.
"Is this how you visit your pregnant old-time friend?"
"Pregnant? Holy-" her mouth agape as she saw the extended belly as Anne turned to her side, leaning on the door with a smile.
~
There are two types of friends when you announce something like this; one that'll be on the verge of tears and congratulate you and the other that is still trying to wrap their head around everything. In this case, Kara and Katherine were a combination of these two categories.
"Oh come, please sit," her voice cracked. She directed her to the sofa, closing the door before sitting next to her, her mind still fixated on the surprise pregnancy
"Thanks, Kara. It's really good to see you again, how've you been? I brought coffee," she said as one of Kara's workers knocked before dropping two cups of coffee and her bag on the table. Kara thanked him, he smiled, and walked away.
"You're heaven-sent, I was in dire need of this," she said, gulping down the hot coffee before releasing a relieved sigh, "I've been surviving Anne, I'm about to close up for the day anyway. Katherine has to see you."
Anne giggled, her stomach moving as she laughed. Oh, she's heavily pregnant, Kara thought.
"How've you been? How was your drive here? Or you know what, we'll catch up at home, just give me a bit of time to get myself ready," Kara rambled.
"Alright, love," Anne smiled, laying back on the sofa.
"You can stay beside me, I'll have someone take your car to the house if you'd like," Kara said, the worry in her voice was clear.
"I'll drive behind you," Anne insisted.
"Alright then, make yourself comfortable. If you need anything tell me, let me clear out some things and make a few calls," Kara said with a smile as she tried to make her comfortable, even if she had a million questions. Her stomach turned at the thought of her pregnant and driving but quickly banished the thought.
She picked up her phone and dialed the telephone downstairs, "Hello. Please can you help me with the cookies downstairs and an apple please?"
"Okay, Ms. Taylor. Anything else?" the boy asked on the other end of the phone.
"No that would be all, thank you."
"Okay, I'm on it," the boy said, she forced a smile at Anne as she dropped the call.
-
"You shouldn't have," she said to Kara, "Thank you," taking the cookies from the worker.
"It's nothing. If you need anything just tell me, I'll be quite busy so make the fridge your friend. I'll tell you when we're going to leave."
"Okay, Kara," they exchanged a smile before Kara returned to her table.
~
"Your home is beautiful. Where is Daniel? It has been so long," Kara held in her laughter as Anne looked at her clueless.
"Oh darling, we do have a lot to catch up on," she laughed, taking her gently up the stairs with a confused look still on Anne's face.
"Kara, is that you?" Katherine called out, running out of the room. Her eyes widened as she saw Anne and Kara standing there with beaming smiles, "Oh my God, Anne!" she exclaimed before crashing on top of her for a tight hug feeling the obstacle between them, "Someone had a huge lunch," she said, looking at her protruding stomach with confusion written on her forehead.
"One would say she ate an entire p***s," Kara mumbled under her breath, obviously not low enough as Katherine heard and her mouth opened wide as she realized.
"Pregnant?!" she screamed as she gave Anne an even bigger hug, "Congratulations! We have a lot to catch up on actually. Let's go to Kara's room, Gabriel is having a meeting now in ours," Katherine said excitedly as they all went to Kara's room with giggles.
"Where do we even start from?" Anne asked, trying to place herself gently on the bed.
"Is that a question? Girl, the baby in you is begging to be explained," Kara said matter-of-factly.
"Well, obviously I'm not proud of it, but this baby is from one of my current exes. We're currently not together anymore but he is paying every bill payable and more. He doesn't know what to do with his money anyway as you know how I like 'em already."
"How many months due are you?" Katherine asked.
"I'm due in 8 weeks."
"Girl, no wonder it's so big! We're so happy for you. You don't know their gender yet?" Kara asked.
"I decided to let them surprise me."
"Them?" they both asked.
"Twins," her face glowed, Kara and Katherine cooed feeling ecstatic for her, "Aside from the whole pregnancy, I got invested in some real estate s**t but my air hostess thing is on hold for now, obviously. I've been making big money, traveling, and stuff. It's relieving to finally be enough for myself, you know?"
"I'm so happy for you, at least we're all succeeding now," Kara said.
"Who's going to tell me what's been going on first?" Anne raised a brow.
"Katherine's life has been less complicated so I think she should start, hmm?" Kara smiled, facing Katherine who had an unimpressed look on her face.
"Where do I even start? Gabriel and I are getting married next month-"
"Oh my God, Katherine congratulations!" Anne's face lit up, making Katherine's cheeks turn crimson.
"Thank you, it's exciting. Well, I've been taking trips and deals, having s*x, a lot, and nothing special at all. I got to this place a year ago and Gabriel only stays here because I beg him to," Katherine rolled her eyes, "Yeah, now for Kara to unleash her baggage."
Anne took a more comfortable position as she was invested in the whole conversation, "Where do I even start from," Kara said, "First off, Daniel and I ended it, everything was getting a bit too toxic and I just felt myself not being able to love him anymore."
"That's a lot, I'm so sorry. Even the s*x couldn't make you stay?" Anne asked.
"Not even-"
"She has another man now, from what I can see, ever since he dicked her down, she doesn't remember any other s****l experience. You can say she's dicknotized," Katherine interrupted.
They all burst out in laughter, except Kara who was embarrassed, "Did you just say 'dicknotized'?" Anne made air quotes.
"That's beside the point. I met him the day Katherine got proposed to and yeah, I'm in love and probably dicknotized too, whatever that means," Kara's face turned crimson, even the thought of Eden made her core erupt.
"Dicknotized is like, you know, hypnotized by some good p***s," Anne burst into laughter, Katherine staring blankly at her belly shaking as she laughed.
"Whatever, you're weird," Kara rolled her eyes.
"You guys are the same characters I left more than a year ago, I missed y'all so much," she wiped a small tear. They understood that it was the pregnancy that was getting her so emotional so they just gave her comforting smiles, "Katherine, I'm sorry I won't be able to come to your wedding for obvious reasons," she smiled awkwardly.
"It's alright darling. We'll make sure to come and visit you in the States with our little babies," Katherine said as she embraced her.
"When do you plan on going back?" Kara asked.
"I want to give birth here, with my mom and everyone here."
"Perfect! We can come to visit whenever you like, is it the same place?" Kara asked.
"I'll text you guys the address, I got her a new place not too long ago," Anne said as she held onto the bed for support to stand, "I'll be on my way now."
"Oh dear, I could drive you instead, I'll just Uber myself back," Katherine offered with a concerned face.
"No need for that trouble, I'm completely capable of driving," Anne said matter-of-factly.
"If you say so. Let's escort you downstairs," Kara said.
They headed down the stairs as carefully as possible, watching each step Anne took down the stairs.
Of course, especially as females, it got to nighttime before Kara insisted on her leaving.
"Sure you don't want an Uber? I could just bring your car for you tomorrow," Katherine leaned on her driver's side window, a concerned look on her face.
"I'll be fine, Katherine," she shot her a convincing smile.
"Alright, take care, love," Katherine said before waving goodbye, Kara waving behind her.
"That lady is at least a year younger than me!" Kara exclaimed.
"It's a canon event, I always knew she would eventually get hooked with that useless pedophile she kept seeing," Katherine scoffed.
"I'm going to bed before I collapse, I have more work tomorrow," Kara said.
"Wait, there was a package for you. We both need to carry it because that s**t there, whatever it is, is heavy."
~
"Who was it from?" Kara held her chuckle with her lips pressed together as Katherine stared at her with irritation written all over her face.
"Eden, of course. Don't play mind games with me child," Katherine rambled on as Kara had already mentally blocked her voice. She opened the box to see the same thing as she had gotten in her office but in Magenta and gray. It was bigger, had the same note, and another set of perfumes. A smile spread across her face.
"I'm gonna sleep peacefully tonight of course," Kara smiled, twirling her hair obnoxiously.
"Show off," Katherine rolled her eyes, walking towards the door.
"Please, as if Gabriel hasn't gotten you better than this," Kara rolled her eyes, saying it loud enough so she could hear through the door Katherine jammed.
